I am a 23 year old female on post op day 2 (tonsils out March 3, 2016). The pain so far is bearable. It hurts of course, but given my horrible bouts of tonsillitis I had have, it is no worse than that. I am able to drink plenty of fluids and stay well hydrated and I am taking my liquid Codenine every 4 hours on the dot, adding in IB Profiein at the 2 hour mark in between. I recommend setting an alarm at night every 2ish hours just to drink some water to try to prevent a dry throat when you wake up in the morning AND keep your head elevated while you sleep.

It's night time now so tomorrow will be day 3. I hope it does not get painful like others have explained but as of right now, it is definitely manageable. Good luck to everyone! Keep a good mindset from before your surgery until after. It helps!

Hi, I'm on day 7, I'm 32 yrs old and I think I'm doing good. The worst pain for sure we're day 3 and 4, but I ate a sandwich yesterday and a sandwich today with steak, and it really doesn't hurt. I've been eating a lot of popcicles and drinking water. My scabs are still there, taking slow, I'm scared to bleed or I'm actually scared that I did bleed and didn't notice it... Do you know whine you're bleeding?

I have had my share of surgeries in my life, I am 56 and had my tonsils out a little over a month ago and there is no pain compared to this so far. My doctor told me it would be bad but I was not prepared for how bad. I was kept in the hospital overnight and thank God for that, the nurses were angels while I vomited all night. Sleeping was impossible because it would dry out my throat and I would wake up crying. I stayed as drugged up as possible the first 7 days and dragged myself back to work on day 11. Day 13-14 the pain was back but miraculously woke up day 15 feeling much better. I still feel like I have spider website in my throat and my sense of taste seems differnt. Sleeping better and happy it's all behind me.

I had my tonsil taken out almost 3 weeks ago. The pain wasn't unbearable especially with the lidocaine. I have lost 30 pounds (Yay). However my taste buds are all out of sorts. So I can't really eat anything right now. Chicken soup is my best friend. I would say that's the worst part of this whole ordeal for me. I miss eating regular food hopefully they come back soon. I want to lose weight but not like this.

You'll definitely know if you're bleeding it'll be intolerable. However a little bit of bleeding my dr said was ok so if it stops on its own there is nothing to worry about.

Hi all! So I'm 32 and on day 4 of recovery from tonsillectomy. I read so many forums before my surgery so I was thinking the worse. Honestly this isn't as bad as I thought. Yes I'm in pain. Yes I can't eat solid food but I just had my tonsils out so that's to be expected. I made sweet potato soup and have been eating that, apple sauce, sorbet, naked smoothie drinks, and scrambled eggs. I have also been attached to my water. It makes it feel better. I do keep up with my pain meds every 4 hours. I think everyone is different but keeping up with your fluid intake is important as well as some kind of food with the pain meds. I did get a low fever the past 2 days but my doctor said it's normal. I'm very optimistic about getting them removed and can't wait to feel better. Good luck everyone and I just wanted to share a not so horrible story.

I am 19 and on day 3 and the pain is pretty bad and keeps getting worse. However I find that taking the pain killers before eating helps a lot! I've been eating jell-o, pudding, soup, spaghetti (cut to small pieces, takes forever to eat but nutritious), mashed potatoes and bananas, as well as ice cream of course. I also find that a hot bag on my neck helps a lot because my neck has been incredibly stiff and swollen!
