Hi,
well try to keep a long story short (as much as poss!!)
Started off around 2 years ago with fleeting, major anal pain- then intense anal itching. Plucked the courage to go to GP who done rectal exam and diagnosed procaglia fugax. Fair enough...then this funny sort of rectal pressure started, as though a balloon was being blown up inside my back passage...gross i know!! Ocasionally done home plain water enema to try relieve this problem- then back to the GP as passed a clot of mucus....(possibly down to the colon cleasing maybe??). Anyhow due to this he sent me to specialist where I had anoscopy/proctoscopy done. Only thing found was 3 small internal piles which doc banded- before the banding was performed I felt an intense pain (while still on the bed with legs akimbo!). This pain lasted almost 36 hours- didnt know where to put myself!! That was last September- had follow up in Nov- waste of time as doc spend no more than 30 seconds examining me. Still have daily pressure, sometimes pain (varies between shooting/nipping to a dull aching throbbing pain). This is accompanied a lot of the time by lower pelvic pain. (i had internal ultrasound that showed nothing but small fibroids on ovaries). Have been on anti-spasmodics and hormones for last 3 months....no avail....still have this annoying, worrying, pressure/pain.
I am to the point now where I am telling myself it could be a rectal cancer- I have no rectal bleeding, although a suffer from re-current small "paper" cuts on the (outside) anal skin which bleed slightly. I have no STI that may be causing this.
There has been a lot of stress/worry over the past 2 years in my life- and to be fair Im an anxious person to begin with. I never feel "depressed" but I feel nervous and worried a lot of the time. I worry about the most serious, important things, down to things that are so insignificant they should not even enter my head. I do have IBS- my colon almost plays a tune every time I eat!!
Is it possible that anxiety could be causing these physical symptoms? I am far from it, but feel like I am going mad, and am starting to wonder if I am manifesting these symptoms because of the way I am thinking.
i feel like I may be more reassured if another scope is done (due to the follow up being so poor)- whats the likelyhood of something being missed or mis-diagnosed during a scope? Or am I simply a paranoid wreck??? My faith in the doctors is low- my husband was sent away from FOUR doctors in the space of one morning due to severe lower stomach pains- until he collapsed a few hours later and had to have an emergency appendictomy. Four doctors misdiagnosed him- so it makes me slightly worried!!!!! ps I am 39, work an office job- sitting on my backside all day just exaggerates this problem!!!!
thanks!

Hi Dawn! A couple of questions and I am sure I can help you get to the "bottom" of this - sorry I couldn't resist!!! XD
1. Have you had children?
2. IF so did you tear?
3. Do you have trouble with bowel movements, urination, painful sex, swollen stomach?
4. IF you do a Kiegle Exercise do you go through the roof?
5. Were you told if you have a dip in your rectum?

haha dont worry- my doctor used the same pun!!
yeah i have 1 child...but shes 21....
i had a few internal stiches- no problems
no probs other than the normal IBS with bowel movements
no trouble with urination or sex- although the way i have been feeling its the last thing on my mind!
and far as i know have no dip in rectum!
it literally started off around 2 years ago- just the "fleeting pains" then progressed to this pressure like feeling that I seem to have almost on a daily basis.
it is now to the point where this is on my mind 24-7 and as i work in sit down job its hard to switch off from it. sometimes so bad it feels my back-end is going to blow up!!
after I have eaten i have loud growlings from stomach and have bad acid reflux- tho doc said that is too far up the colon to be connected to the bother im having from the back-end!
like i say im terrified its some sort of cancer- and it has been mis-diagnosed as internal piles.....stranger things have happened lets face it- and considering for the last 10 months this has been a daily occurance i find it hard to belive its "nothing".
i have endometreosis and am on hormones which is meant to help that- i mentioned could it poss be that growing onto my bowel causing the symptoms? was told it would likely to only bother me during my period if that was the case....my mother had it and her bowel ended up fused to her ovary.
i mentioned possible pelvic floor disfunction or pundential nerve damage but this has been disregarded. i dunno im peeved off with all the visits to the docs- dont get me wrong he has referred my for the appropriate tests but no avail.....i havnt had a fecal occult test done which i thought might have been a 1st step as i have no obvious bleeding..............just feel like screaming!! aggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! lol

Hi honey! The reason why I asked about the sex was because I was leaning towards Endometriosis! So since you have been diagnosed with this I am leaning even more towards it!
Now have you ever had a bump in your mouth or a zit on your back and it feels HUGE when it isn't? That is what I think you are experiencing with your internal piles! this will make you feel like you have a baloon in your bottom! And also when you have that kind of thing - similar to a hernia really - it will feel even worse because you sit on your rectum, you use your rectum and it is a VERY sensitive organ! Rectal or colon cancer is easily screened for and your doctor sounds on the ball, have you done a fecal test yet? I know that you keep going there - to colon/rectal cancer - but try not to OK? As this will take over your life and this is what you will concentrate on! And EVERY little discomfort etc WILL feel MAJOR! It isn't NOTHING! I don't think anyone has told you that! I think it is something, BUT to you whom is experiencing it, you think "HOW can it be only that, when it feels awful!" It is hard for us to believe in something as basic as piles to be the cause of such discomfort! It HAS to be more serious! OR they aren't telling me anything!
so ask for a fecal test which you can even do at home! - there are kits you send in the mail!! And then lets see what that says! Have you done Kiegels?

Hi there!
Nope, no fecal occult test yet- which i thought might have been one of the 1st things as i have no obvious bleeding......i know i shouldnt keeping thinkin bout the cancer issue- its just so many of my symptoms relate to that! yeah everything does feel major- theres not a day goes by where this c**p aint on my mind!!!
As for the internal piles, they were 2nd degree- so 1 doc says i should have experienced NO pain- one said i might...but since they have been banded, by rights the little blighters should have shrivelled up and died!!!!
But seeing as my follow-up appointment was such a farce and she did not examine me properly I dont know if that is the case- when I asked she just danced around the question!! She couldnt answer if the banding procedure had been successful cos she didnt look properly!!! I think thats why im insuch doubt, as i thought the idea of follow up was to see how the 1st procedure worked and to ensure nothing had been missed- she might have well looked into my ear what what use she was!!!!
No- havnt done Keigels- u think it might be worth it??

As you are aware you rectum and vagina are VERY sensitive and any blockage, bump, tear etc, is PAINFUL! When they did the banding I think that this also draws your brain to that area - does that make sense? It is such a sensitive area, and any irritation or even the slightest nick or tear will make us go through the roof! I KNOW that what I'm about to ask you to do is GROSS but I think it will help! Buy some medical gloves - the really thin ones, and get some lubricant - or even Pile ointment! Put the gloves on, and put a lot of the ointment/lube on your finger and then insert it gently into your rectum! See if you can feel anything! IF you do this on the toilet, while your finger is in there, bare down and see if there is any difference in your rectal muscles or if you feel a lump! IF you dont feel any difference then I think this is all about muscles, IF you feel a difference and a lump then it is DEFINITELY piles that haven't been done correctly! That is ridiculous that she didn't do this for you already! NOW if you feel piles in there, then you will need a suppository and keep it up till you notice a difference! I definitely want you to phone your pharmacy and see if they have fecal tests there! Most do! And you can send it off to your local cancer centre - by mail - and then get the results! OR ask your doctor to send a Requisiton for a stool test! Either way we need to get to the bottom of this so you can get on with your life without being so stressed!
Do you ever have trouble going for a bowel movement? As in TOTALLY straining and trying to get the poop out? As I think you might have a dip as well!

Hi there!
haha- i have already had the finger up there im afraid! i was given some ointment to use before my appointment at hospital as they thought it might be a fissure! done nothing but give me a massive head rush everytime i used it! couldnt feel any obvious lumps there- but the piles are so far up that they wernt even felt during the digital rectal exam by my doc!!
I dont think any of the pahrmacies around here do that sort of test- i have only seen them on the internet- but dont worry im due back at my docs shortly so its something im gunna suggest- cos im likely to kill someone or something if this does not stop!!
i occasionally get constipated- but that is totally my own fault as i hardly drink any water- but otherwise im not too bad at all- have been taking a pro-biotic drink every day and have noticed the difference there as regulararity goes!
funny you should mention a "dip" as i have a tilted womb.........hmmmm wonder if that has anything to do with this malarkey at all?
thanks for trying to help anyway!

Many women get a dip after child birth and if they suffer from piles! This is another WTMI but IF you are constipated againa nd are straining then you put your finger into your vagina and press against the back of the wall - where your rectum is - if this helps the poop come out then you have a dip! Thus women having vaginal/rectal tears in childbirth - it's RIGHT next too each other1 This dip can totally give you a sensation of something there - because there is - POOP!!! 8-| :$ ;-) XD

Hi,
thing is, like i say, my daughter is 21- i have only started having any sorta problems there in the last 2 years- i had no bother at all for 19 years!! and the tears i had during childbirth were superficial really- healed in no time with no further problems.
ahhhhhh i dunno- i think another referral to the hospital is needed- i have a day or 2 where im ok- then its back again!
thanks for y hep tho!x

When we get older our bodies start to "change" this not only includes our reproductive side but ALL organs etc. You can drink milk ALL your life then all of a sudden be lactose intollerant! I had my children 17 and 14 years ago and was only diagnnosed with a dip about 2 years ago - after I had the same sensation as yourself! I am just trying to rule in or out differnt things! I do think it has a lot to do with the inner piles, and possibly not being taken care of like they should have - and you noticing this constantly! When you go to the doctors or hospital - take a sheet of questions that you want answered, and also things in your head done that you think should be done! Just like you were expecting the doctor to check your bottom but she didn't, so IF this happens again, ASK! We have to empower ourselves more with questions etc. Also when you write it down and then have them answered, you aren't in the poistion of driving home and going "Darn I wish I remembered to ask ......" It is VERY frustrating when that happens! So be prepared OK?

Hi,
aw the doc checked it on my follow up- for all of around 30 seconds! when i asked how the abnding had gone- she couldnt answer me- simply cos she hadnt looked and was just relaying info that was in my notes. i gotta admit i felt like i got examined the 1st time properly- but whos to say nothing was missed/mis-diagnosed? thought that was whole idea of follow up!!!!
anyway......if you were diagnosed with a dip- what has been the treatment- or do u still suffer the symptoms now? i cant bear the thought of having to put up with this c**p daily for rest of my life! it just takes over things and makes u want to do nothing!!!!
lifes too short for this carry-on, and i cant believe its not far short of a year and theres still no diagnosis! x

So what did she say?!!!! did you tell her about the feelings you have? if nothing is resolved you HAVE to requw=est another doctor!

Hi,
she was like, you have 3 small piles, blah blah, (no sh*t Sherlock- pardon my french but it peeves me off)- I was like YES i know that- I was told that last time around and told they were banded....has the banding worked???? she couldnt answer- said to keep up high fibre and water intake and the problems should resolve....what a crock!!!
I hav a few days respite from this (thank th lord) and i always feel much more optimistic when I dont have that pressure...so Im feeling pretty good at the mo- but give it a day or so and i willbe back to sqaure1!!
My visit is due in around 4 weeks- so im gunna suggest being referred back to see a different doctor- unless this just vanishes the same way in which it came- but i somehow sooooooooooo doubt that! x

The BIG key words here are this "HAVE 3 small piles" She didn't say HAD! So I think they didn't work!!! And I think you can attest to this because you still feel there is a bulge there right? It is NOT them sitting on "3 small piles" so they don't have a clue how it feels! Just like when you are about to be injected they will say "You will feel some pressure!" which means - "your eyes will cross!" ;-) XD XD so don't wait for another 4 weeks - this will drive you nuts - ask for a referal to another doctor!

Hi,
well i know at least 1 of the bands worked cos you bleed after around 10 days- which happened- so i know for defo that at LEAST 1 worked..who knows bout the other 2! seriously, she was simply relaying the info in my notes- not giving me a run down from the exam....theres no way possible that I could have been examined in 30 seconds- or maybe less! And I asked directly if the banding worked and she couldnt answer...cos she hadnt looked properly!
i gotta give it 4 weeks- for when the course of tablets run out- otherwise doc will think im not givin the meds a chance. but i will be there then and want referral to another consultant- then at least I can say I have tried everything he's suggested- now sort it out!!!
All i would like is to get back to normal- instead of thinkin bout my behind all the time!!!
