About 2007 I also started in Feb having a red dot on the top of my second toe and then my third, only on left foot. Later it becomes painful and had to wear a sandal that was raised in the front an inch to keep pressure off my toes when walking. Then later they start feeling numb and turn red. If it gets worse, they turn purple and, at one point, one of them even turned black. I went to ER and they said it wasn't black enough to be gangarene. I have been to 10 different various specialists and only one, a dermatologist, had any diagnosis - Chilblains. I was also told maybe I wasn't getting enough circulation on my toes and was given Nitro-Bid to rub on the lower joints of my toes to prevent it from getting worse. I went to Florida during the winter after that and didn't have the problem to any discoloration, but had slight pain at times. This is the first winter back in a cold climate and it has started again. I don't really feel it is Chilblains as there is no itching and it's not Raynauds Syndrome either. I don't really have blisters either. The red dots don't swell up or anything, but may become dry skin and peel off after it passes by summer. Just glad to know I'm not the only one.

They are chilblains, often genetic, i inherited it from my mother along with hormone problems and acid reflux in my belly sometimes too, with chilblains you just gotta be careful when showering or when walking around, i have it mostly on my left foot but my right foot toes and sorta above the toe area on top goes blue too, on both feet the toes go blue if i run them under hotter water too and i have it on my hands too but not as bad but my hands go blue or really red super faster, in cold weather i go cold really fast especially my hands and if i run my hands under hotter water straight away my hands go super red for a 10/15 mins, it's always a little red, shiny and puffy too above the nails where the cuticle is and it can go a little bit blue sometimes if i get too cold, but because the hands generally always stay warmer it's not too bad. Just keep some cozy socks on around the house, buy some cozy fluffy blankets for when your sitting and just put your feet under them to keep your feet warm and when your in the shower don't put the temperature up hotter keep it at just a warm temperature, experiment with the temperatures to see what keeps your toes from going blue, my toes and above the toe area on top goes blue when in the shower so i'll need to do the same... currently i have them on every toe on my left foot, it's a little bit sore on the big one on my big toe though because it's got a bit of a blister, put on some cozy socks, and it helps to wiggle my toes and roll my ankles too, although my left toes haven't been the same since i went over on it once, can't wiggle them much so i just wiggle them with my hand and rub the sides and tops of my feet too to keep the blood circulating. I also read that it can be hormonal, is it a coincidence i suddenly got them all on my left toes this month after it being the first time in a year i got my period? probs not lol.

It's chilblains guys... just keep your feet warm and don't sit with your foot on a cold floor, it's genetic mostly and it's a condition of the skin where it reacts to temperatures too quickly, mainly happens on the feet but can happen with your hands too, it's nothing to worry about just always keep cozy socks on while around the house because they start forming on your toes within a small amount of time. When i'm in the shower but toes go kinda blue because it reacts too fast to both cold and warm, i only get them when it reacts to cold though and it's only on my left foot.
