I have a few red spots on the front of my shins (occasionally, I'll get one or two on my calves and maybe one high up on my thigh). they are not itchy and don't hurt, but they get a waxy covering and if you scratch it off it takes forever to heal. I have used different over the counter creams: hydrocortisone and neosporin with no effect. I am currently using Bag Balm which seems to help but not completely. The last time my legs were totally clear was when I went into the ocean for a couple days and got tanned. It stayed away for months. When they came back it seemed to coincide with my allergy season. I am also under tremendous stress right now, I am in school and working. Could it be stress related?? I have had this problem off and on for years (over the last 15) and I am a 53 yr old female, but I can't even wear shorts in the summer because of it. Any clue as to what the heck it is or how to get rid of it?? Thanks.

Hi, Shelly,
I, too have the same affliction. I use Lamisil or other antifungal creams which cause the spots to go away---in about 8-10 weeks! Then I am left with a scar! I don't know the exact cause as of yet, but I am looking into it. If I find out anything further, I'll let you know. As for tanning, I find that this helps, too, which also leads me to beleive that this is some sort of fungal issue because the UV rays kill whatever fungus is growing. Try the antifungal cream and see if it works for you. That, along with tanning (even if it is only your legs that you tan) should help. Good luck and I hope you are able to wear shorts this year! --Renee

Hey you all, I just woke up the other morning and low and behold the little spot I had has grown up. Now it does not hurt or itch but it got itself a friend a mile up my leg, what is this? I dont like the look of it at all. I think I am going to go to the doc, it scares me to death.
