Had melanoma surgery on my lower leg 5 years ago. My ankle and foot often swells significantly. Exercise helps as does staying close to a vegetarian diet. Absolutely stay off sodas and fast food.

I had uterine cancer 4 years ago.  They removed lymph nodes in my groin area. My right ankle full of metal from a car accident about 30 years ago.   A couple of years ago I injured the same leg and developed cellulitus.  Arprox 3 months ago I had ankle surgery to remove some of the metal and fix some of the arthritis in the ankle area.  Since the surgery, my ankle and leg have been swelling.  I also have alot of pain in my groin area. My right leg has become noticably swolen and larger than my left leg.  This blog has been helpful, just knowing I am not the only one having leg problems after lymph node removal.

Undoubtedly, your doctor has advised you to wear surgical compression stockings/pantyhose to control the swelling? They are vital to your health! Search online for the various companies that sell them and brands available in your size.

You story is identical to mine except mine was the left leg just above my knee in 1984. I had a large piece cut out and have a large scar. All my lymph was removed in the left side (groin) I too wear the jobst compression stocking. Only when I travel. I found that being active and exercise kept swelling down. It does ache in the evening but worth it. I find most discomfort if I sit for long periods especially on stools . As the knee to bent too long.
I have also found that now I am getting older and am less active I have more trouble or aching than ever before. Could also be I weigh more? So I need to get back into exercise !
My advise to anyone is be active then rest and elevate it at night and drink water.

I'm waiting to see the lymphoedema nurses. I too had a sentinal lymph node biopsy and removal of a healthy lymph node. Now the area is so painful in the groin and my legs and ankle swell for most of the day.
