I have no insurance and my husband hasn't worked in 20 months (which equals no money for a doctor visit) so I need some advice.

I'm 45, married, 3 kids with really regular periods, well up until Dec/Jan. I started having multiple periods every couple weeks (some only brown, some red/normal) but they are way too frequent. This week I started again and 2 days in and my period smells like rotten meat - NOT fish. Omg, I don't know what to do.

I have no other symptoms what so ever. No cramps, bloating, fever, discharge, nothing. They only thing to change was having too many periods too close together for 3 months and now this horrible rotten smell that started today. It's not my vagina that smells I think it's actually the blood. I reached up as far as I could to see if I could feel a lost tampon but I didn't find anything. I haven't had alot of sex lately (too much financial stress/life stress to feel like that) but the times I did I didn't seem to have any issues but that was a month ago.

I have Ampicillin here at home, a weeks worth anyway. Should I take some? Does this usually turn out to be bacterial? I'm at a loss and can's stand the odor. Anyone who has had this issue and can post what yours turned out to be, I would be forever grateful. Actually any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

some people are prone to alot of discharge which would happen more if the person is sexually active, or it could be the start of thrust which is easy to treat and evryone gets it

Sounds like an infection to me. If you called the ER they migt give you some info, but I think you should try to see a Doctor asap. Maybe a free clinic or something. My doc told me if I ever have a bad smell to be seen right away even if there are no other symtoms.

I am having the same horrible issue. It is scaring me, I have never had this problem before. I am hoping that it will pass with my period, I am wanting to wait it out and see if it passes but then again I wont to make a doctor's appointment Monday.

Anyone resolve this issue? I've been to 3 drs with insurance and they all told me im fine. That's the most frustrating because it still exsisted intermittently ....it only started recently I'm 45. My perfume dosnt even work anymore its like my own body is not mine. Totally weird feeling.

Considering your age, I'd suggest you just use a tampon & pad when you have your period. Shower in the morning before work. And if you have your period, insert a tampon & place a pad on your underwear. Then sprinkle baby powder (or whichever powder you prefer) on your vagina & your behind. Then slightly spray some sweet smelling perfume on your underwear. Preferably wear pants/jeans, instead of skirts/dresses. Slightly spray some perfume on the crotch area of your pants/jeans, as well. Slightly, though. You don't want to overdue it w/ the perfume, then people will complain about that. Carry feminine wipes in your purse so you can wipe yourself each time you use the public bathroom. If possible a mini baby powder & small perfume as well. So you can do the same thing as mentioned above (after showering). Carry a plastic bag in your purse, so you can throw your tampon & pad in there & tie up the bag then put in trash can ... because that smell stays on the feminine products, therefore in the trash can. .... I speak from experience. I can only assume that our age and hitting near menopause, might be the cause of the smell. ....

Bad advice, no powder, perfume, scented soap on vagina. wash with unscent, soapless cleanser, use luke warm water to wash and wash frequently. only cotton underwear, avoid tight underwear and jeans. More importantly see a doctor, an infection may be present.

I have an answer that may or may not work for everyone but it has proven to be super effective in some. It may seem a little counter-intuitive with what other people are saying as far as avoiding products and douching.

Get an empty douche bottle, fill three quarters with luke warm water, fill a quarter with hydrogen peroxide, and add 4 drops of grapefruit seed extract. Both GSE and hydrogen peroxide have been proven to work against BV (which I think this is a bizarre strain of or something). One can buy grape-fruit-seed extract at a store like nature's oasis, wild oats, whole foods, sunflower market -- any organic food type store. Make sure not to buy Grape-seed extract as it is not the same thing and will not have the same effect. Make sure to do this only 1-2 times and week and eat plain, no sugar added, lowfat greek yogurt in conjunction with the douching. This will replenish good bacteria in the vagina. You can even dilute a tablespoon of the yogurt in the douche bottle with water only to get the probiotics there more quickly. Drink a lot of water and keep the diet low in sugar. I really hope this helps someone :)

While I don't have the answer since many factors could cause these symptoms, this is bad advice. The last think you want to do is introduce a significant number of synthetic chemicals and products into an already physiologically disturbed area. Smells of rotten flesh are always caused by bacteria, usually bacteria that grow in the absence of oxygen (anaerobes). While this doesn't mean you are sick or infected per se, it could mean that. THe best thing is to ask around--free clinic, sliding scale physician, planned parenthood, etc. It sounds like at the very least an exam and maybe a culture is in order. Don't freak about the money...it may not cost as much as you think to pay for an appt at a sliding-scale office.

Go to a Planned Parenthood, other clinic with sliding scale fees or free clinic. Try putting some medical grade boric acid in your vagina (ask any pharmacist -- make sure it's approved for medical use) -- this works very well for fishy smells at least and should help with other bacterial infections. Buy some gelatin capsules and put the boric acid in that and insert as a vaginal suppository. (This should all cost less than $15 for about a year's supply of boric acid suppositories. Boric acid is a very mild acid that (at least temporarily) will neutralize the ph levels to be a bit more acidic and kill the smell so you can get on living a normal life without the shame or discomfort. If boric acid doesn't work, get to a doc ASAP and even if it does you should get it checked out.

What country so you live in? If you're in the U.S., then go to social services and find out about getting Medicaid for yourself and the children. You need to go to the doctor. Your frequent periods and the odor are cause for alarm. You should seek care from an endocrinologist and a gynecologist. You may a hormonal issue (i.e. thyroid, diabetes, etc.) that's causing irregular periods. Call 211 and ask for a list of free clinics or clinics that go by sliding scale. Or call your local hospitals and ask about their charity program or free clinics. Nearly every hospital has some type of financial aid (may be free or sliding scale) for people in your situation. Nearly every community has a free medical clinic.

I've had the same problem going on about five months now. My business smells just fine, but when my period starts the blood REEKS! I have no other issues, no weird pain or discharge, nada. I have a theory though gals... bear with me while I explain it.

I used to raise sheep, and on occasion did not get the afterbirth promptly cleaned up from when they would have babies. By the next day that stuff had this horrible rotting smell like nothing else. I remember that stink, and the stink wafting up from my pads smells exactly like it. The other thing I've noticed that started happening around five months ago was that my period didn't start like it used to when I was younger (I'm 43 now). In the past it would start flowing and go for a few days and then go away. Now I get a little spotting one day, then nothing the next, then the floodgates burst and it's like Slaughterhouse Five in my underwear for two days. Then it stops.

So my theory is that the reason it smells so effin bad when it never did in years past is because, for whatever reason, age maybe, my period starts but the blood and lining isn't shedding as fast as it used to. So instead of cutting loose and heading south like it's supposed to, it's detaching and then hanging out to rot for a bit inside before finally getting evicted.

Now how disgusting is that? But it makes sense! That mess never smelled like cherry cupcakes, but it def never stank and now it smells like day old afterbirth. Ahh the joys of getting old.

It's an old tampon. Seriously, give it a good search to solve the problem.

I have the exact same problem, i woke up this morning and went pee, and BOOM i got my period, it was chunky kinda like when you throw up in the toilet and all the chunks of food start seperating at the bottom into little flakes, yeah thats what it looked like but it was bloody of course.. I havent but any tampons in and i dont smell down there at all until now.
It smells like rotting meat or something its gross and im only 21 years old so i has nothing to do with age.. Im thinking maybe im having a miscarriage / chemical pregnancy that i didnt even know i was pregnant.. because it is very common..
