yes i am 29 and recently pregnant, and i'm not looking for an answer like "grow up and get over it" i have a substantial fear of dr.s needles and i just read an article about someone in the same situation that miscarried because of the stress and anxiety of dr.s.. this is real, we all have our"glitches" and this is mine. i'm so friggin scared of gynos, i haven't been back since my 1st experience, 10 years ago... i hate western medicine, every experience with a doc has been extremely impersonal and invasive (except the dentist, i love you dr. mccarthy) i seriously almost rather go this alone. i only go to dr.s if i;m unconcious and unaware. how come every other fear is respected except mine? i know a girl who has a dr.s excuse for work because she has "chicklaphobia" (the fear of chewing gum)!! where can i find a doctor who respects my fear?

Your pregnant, so you obviously need the support of a doctor.
Phobias are real to many people and can cause great anxiety and complete disruption in the life of the person who is afflicted with it.
But now you need to think about the life inside of you. Early pre natal care is so important for both you and your baby.

There are many doctors out there who deal with an anxious patient and are mindful and respectful of the situation.
You are happy with your dentist, you can be happy with an Ob Gyn as well. Your fear is not uncommon as there are millions of people in the world that are petrified of doctors.

Make a few phone calls and set up a few appointments, do process of elimination if you will. Explain yourself and let him/her know of your fears.
If you can get a female doctor, that would help. I have a lady gyno and i love her to death. My 20 year old was just as scared as you until i hooked her up with my doctor. Now she goes in for checkups with no problem.

You really have to get comfortable with someone soon. When the time comes for you to deliver your baby you will need him/her for sure.
It is not safe for you to try to get thru this pregnancy on your own as you will need monthly checks. There will be needles involved as you will need to have blood work. What if you need a C section? You can't do that on your own, and there are needles involved in that to as well as surgery.

Go slow and look around and have as many consultations as you need until you are comfortable.
