I was diagnosed with a septate hymen at a young age and never had any issues with it. It was torn during intercourse when I was 19 with little to no pain and minimal bleeding. My condition is more cosmetic than medical as I have noticed (from looking at pictures) that my vaginal opening does not look 'normal'. What used to be my hymen is now two pieces of tissue and there seems to be an excess of tissue near to and surrounding my urethra. I know that I will need to see my doctor about this but I am posting because I'd like to hear from women who have experience with this situation, having lived with it or as a doctor, operating on it, and get your feed back.
I just found your post after a quick google search. It in crazy how similar of a situation I am currently in. I too had a septate hymen. I wasn't told this by a doctor, but I knew something was odd and researched it online. After it broke I had tissue at the top and the bottom of my vaginal opening. The tissue at the top is kind of forks into three bands of tissue. One attaches at the tope of my vaginal opening and the other two attach on either side of my urethra so you can really see it. I had very little issues with these areas but do get frequent UTIs. At a recent pap smear, the speculum caught onto the upper hymenal remnant and it hurt very badly. I scheduled an appointment to see the doctor at the practice (a nurse practitioner did my pap) and had that appointment today. Apparently because my tissue on top is so close to my urethra, I now have to see a urologist to make sure it is ok to remove or if removal will cause more UTIs and/or leaking. That is the point I am at now. I hope this has helped.
