I had the same pain this morning after sex, but the only difference is i'm all to familiar with what it is. I had PID (pelvic inflamatory disease) in my early twenties, and again in my thirties (once you've had it, your succeptible to bouts of it, with or without infection) so when the pain hit, I knew what it was. I doubled over after barely making it to the bathroom, as my family slept peacefully, of course, and tried to use the bathroom. It hurt too bad, then I broke out in a sweat, so I just peeled all my clothes off (that helped) and laid on the cold bathroom floor.(that helped too). In the past I would run to the doctor and they would tell me the same thing. Nobody knew what it was, a round of antibiotics and they'd send me home. But now, because Ive had the pain about 15 times in my life (i'm 40) I know that you have to let it pass over. There are things that can help. Pelvic floor exercises (kiegels) help over time. A SUPER healthy diet helps too. One partner helps a LOT. Any foreign germ, sex with a partner who has other partners (even if you are faithful) can trigger irritation, somethign about the two may not mix. Panti-liners help, sometimes fabric is the irritant. I know this is a lot of info, but I think it will help.

last night I almost called an ambulance - had sex with my husband, then suffered the same pain everyone is discussing. Went to the toilet and the PAIN. It was like trapped wind but 100 times worse, the sharp pain up my rectum. Then I began to feel so sick it was not funny. I threw up. The pain continued. It was like my whole rectal passage was in some kind of spasm. I did pass 'poo', and each time it felt like my body was in a complete spasm to go to the toilet, but felt difficult to do so. I felt like I needed to pass gas too, and none came. I was on the toilet in agony for about an hour before the pain subsided enough for me to go back to bed. This morning, it still hurts and still feel quite fragile. I'm still getting shooting pains up my bum if I move in a certain way, but it certainly feels like my bowels have taken a battering. I'm still getting the feeling like I want to pass gas and my tummy is swelling a little. It's knocked me for six.

I did have pain during sex - the session was short lived because of it. It felt like a dull ache pain during intercourse down the right side of the birth canal. We stopped. The ache started just above my pubic bone, a painful ache, then the rectal pains started. It was as soon as I got to the toilet to pass urine that the pains became unbearable and it was so painful. I've not had it since (my post was 2wks ago) but I didn't attempt sex again until a week after. I went to my doctor. She has referred me for abdominal scans which are due Monday 11th. I'll keep you all posted, however, my doctor did say she didn't think it was PID as I've never had any sexually transmitted diseases and that tends to come from that type of thing, but also, as I'm married and have one partner for last 10yrs she didn't want to go down that route just yet. She was more inclined to think ovarian cysts. My really good friend has endomet. and she didn't think my symptoms fit that bill. I thank you for your responses and glad I'm not alone in the world regarding this awful pain. My doctor looked at me like I had two heads when I told her about it - she said she hadn't heard this happening to anyone before!

Ladies,
I used to have the original described problem too. (Mild pain during intercourse, excruciating pain after, like someone stabbin a knife up my vagina and rectum.) I had this problem between the ages of 28-34. It did not happen to me every time I had sex, but it happened enough to cause me trips to the ER, PCM, and GYN.
I found help for this problem when I was 34 and have never had it since. (4 years)
Now let me start by saying, that this may not be a recommended cure for you and you may not have the same problem I had.
My doctor, due to my extremely painful menstrual cycles, plus the painful intercourse problems, preformed an ablation on my uterus.
An ablation is the burning of the uterine walls, which makes it so you do not have cycles anymore, and which also means you can not have babies anymore. It is like having a hysterectomy without removing the uterus. This did not matter to me since I had already had a tubal ligation many years before. But it may matter to you.
My doctor also did an exploratory surgery on me at the same time, and he did find minor endometriosis., but a lot of my problem I believe stemmed from me having a tubal ligation.
While I was having these issues I did a lot of research, some of the things that I found that can cause this are:
Endometriosis
Vaginosis
Ovarian Cysts
STD's
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (which a few of the doctors claimed was my problem, but turned out they were wrong. This is the easy explanation for them)
Menopause and Pre-menopause (which can happen earlier than you might think)
Ectopic Pregnancy
and Tubal Ligation Syndrome
If any of you have had a tubal ligation, I do suggest looking up tubal ligation syndrome. If any of you are thinking about getting a tubal ligation, send your man to get a vasectomy instead, tubals mess us girls up really bad and vasectomies do not mess up the guys.
I will tell you this as well, I do still have occasional pain in my bowels, which may or may not be IBS. This pain however is not associated with my sex life. It just happens at random times no matter if i am sitting on the couch, or running.
One thing that I will remind you of and recommend, is women do get swelling at different times of the month, internally, so I would suggest keeping a journal. It may help your doctor figure things out, or at least help you to know if, say, during ovulation you shouldn't have sex because it hurts to much.
Another suggestion I have is write down all of your symptoms not just the ones pertaining to the intercourse, but also any you may have from your cycle, or ovulation.
In my experience, male doctors listen better about female issues and they also do not try and compare your symptoms to their own, since they can't lol. Believe it or not I ran into that a lot with female practitioners.
Anyway I wish you all good luck and hope you find the solution to your problem because I know how horrible it is.

Thank You so much 'guest' of 15/3/13, yesterday. Wow, you really took the time to shed some light on things and I really thank you for that. I went for my scan and it showed nothing. I'm not sure they do that lasering of the uterus here (England), so I might ask about that. My periods are painful, but bearable, but I lose a lot of blood - and guts is the only way I can put it! I Bleed for over 7days, the first 3-4 being really heavy. I think I might push my doc to check me out for the endometriosis. I do get rectal pain sometimes without warning or initiation too. I had the tape put in last year to support my bladder, and wondered if that op had hampered things, but it was all fine as far as they could see. Apparently, from the xray, my left ovary is behind my bowel - any constipation or a week before my period it gets really sore and painful there - so that would be the explanation there. Apparently this can happen after things have moved around in pregnancy and don't fall back in the right places! I am keeping an eye on this site, so any new news, I'll share, because it could be an answer to some ladies also.
Many many thanks again for the posting yesterday. xx

hi there i saw your post after the same thing happened to me. First time I went to AnE where they dosed me with antibiotics and painkillers and sent me home with no explaination. Second time i took painkillers and spent the night on the bathroom floor crippled as u explained. 3rd time I decided to take action no matter what the cost or embarrassment. Docs did bloods for everything and an ulta sound and I got my results today. I have a growth the size of my fist in my lower ab. I have an appointment for CT scan this wk to see if its benign but either way it has to come out. i hope that yours has been fixed by now but if its not please please go see a specialist. no matter what the cost its not worth waiting. I dont mean to scare u but all my sympthoms are the exact same to yours and eveybody elses on this forum. I understand everyone is different but its better to be safe than sorry. i am sh*t scared but so relieved that someone took me seriously and found my answer. really hope this helps someone cause it helped me feel somewhat normal just reading ur post:)
