I have suffered from Proctalgia fugax since I started menstruating at 12 but I figured everyone had it so I didn't mention it to anyone. When I was in my thirties, I mentioned it to my mother and it turns out that many people in our family have the same thing. It is excruciating rectal cramping and the pain goes from the anus to the belly button. It is way worse than labour pains and in fact it was one of the worst things that I went through while in labour. Orgasms, being cold and periods can initiate it. My mother deals with it by taking a hot bath but since it often happens about two in the morning, I can't be bothered with that. I found that if I place a broom handle on the floor and then sit so it aligns with the crack and rock forward and back, right and left, it helps, but the best thing is the heating pad I keep under the bed. As soon as I feel the pain starting, the pad goes underneath me and I can relax because I know it will soon go away. The good news is that since I went through menopause, I rarely get it. Proctalgia fugax typically lasts under thirty minutes but it can make you cry, scream and vomit with pain. This may have nothing to do with the symptoms that are mentioned in other posts as people did not mention the duration of the pain.

I'm going in tomorrow to have the cyst removed. It can go away on its own, but due to the size of mine, they are removing it.

I totally don't know if this could be it, but it happens often when I don't have sex in the "basic" sex position. (Man on top facing each other.) I don't know about you ladies but my gyno said I have a tilted uterus which makes some sex positions uncomfortable. I don't have this all the time, but noticed it mainly happens when in this position. If anything, just avoid this position and find other comfortable ones.

I wish I had an answer but just know you are not alone I had the exact same thing started 1 month ago and they didn't find anything on my xrays or blood work, and my gyro said she thinks it was an ovarian cyst that ruptured, we'll I still have the sharp pain when i bear down to poop, more toward my bowels. I have been thinking about a colonoscopy, but I've already racked up too many hospital bills

Hi I am actually in the same position as you. It started with a small pain while having sex but quickly turned into extreme pain in my lower abdomin and rectum to were I couldn't sit down. I immediately thought of gas pains because I suffer from gastritis. So I went to the store and bought a stool softener and some gas releasing pills these are the only things that help me at times.

Another update to all ladies going through this pain. I previously posted the cause of my pain was an ovarian cyst and went for laparascopy to remove it. The doc then discovered that the cyst grew attached to my uterus and I also had some scar tissue from my c-section 3 years ago. This was all discovered during the lap.

Try Hyoscyamine under the tongue (prescription). I have the same symptoms. If I feel one coming on then I hurry up & take one and you lay there in pain for about 20 minutes & it takes the pain away. I think it's from my endometriosis. I call it the miracle drug. Ask your doctor.

See that this was posted over a year ago but glad to see I wasn't the only one. I saw your post when I was searching for answers. And now hope that I can help you in some way. After a diagnostic surgery I was diagnosed with adenomyosis and will be getting a hysterectomy. Hope you have already found your answer but knowing how painful this disease is I want people to know! !!
