Some of you were able to have babies even though you have this pain. I have this same problem for a few years now, and I am trying to get pregnant. My obgyn said that I have endometreosis and that it may affect my chance of becoming pregnant but he was not sure. Every time I have this pain, I take Midol and the pain would go away in an hour or so. But since I am trying to become pregnant, I am wondering if taking these pain killers will prevent me from becoming pregnant or causing miscarriage.

For those that got pregnant, did you experience the pain during the pregnancy and if you did, did you take any pain killers during the pregnancy?

I could be adenomyosis. If you research that it might be your answer.

I am having similar pains, i can't remember when they began. I know that I have grown accustomed to them coming every month, before or after my cycle. When they come before my cycle, it's about 4-5 days before it actually starts, when the pain comes after my cycle it's immediate. having a bowel movement is qite uncomfortable, however, the pain is bearable, when i urinate ,with the pain in tote, it is bearable. I am just at the point where I am tired of it, it interferes with my sex life. I have had 3 c-sections and I have four children. The first child was c-section (breech), my second child 9 1/2 years later was natural, my third child a year and 8 days later was breech (c-section), and my last child 17 months later was c-section only because it was standard procedure after having the c-section prior to the pregnancy. I don't know if it is scar tissue build up or what. I beleive that the pain may have started 4 years ago or perhaps three. As I said it is bearable but it hurts when I sit, walk, lay down and it doesnt come and go , it actally lasts anywhere from 3-5 days and then it's gone. Passing gas is diificult but it gives me a bit of releif. I am planning to got to the ER, but I am concerned about the long waitbecause I have 3 toddlers and a thiretteen year old, my husband has to go to work in the morning . If i go tonight I'll have to go it alone, he has to stay with the children, If I go in the morning I don't konw if I'll be out in time to pick the kids up from school. I am tired of the pain it has been going on too long. I have a Dr.'s appointment on the 16th but the pain will be gone by then and my Dr. won't have a full understanding of the pain without me being in pain at that moment. I don't know how to handle this situation should I go now, in the morning or wait until my appointment when time won't be a factor.

I'm 44 with similar pains - but with a twist.  The first time I had pain about then years ago starting in my left side between my hip and through abdomen with pain shooting down my leg. I went to an orthopedic specialist and after the MRI, he said there was nothing wrong.  Next, I went to the OBGYN and he indicated I had an ovarian cyst the size of a lima bean. In six weeks it became the size of a tangerine, so we had it removed.  So, you could imagine when I got the same pain on my right side I'd go back to the OBGYN, right? Well, there was no cyst!  I went to the Orthopedic specialist and found out I had a cyst on on hip and Osteoarthritis. I also had a lot of soft tissue damage and ended up working from home for two months because I couldn't sit up straight or walk without severe pain. I've had to learn the pain symptoms for the hip because it can also feel like lower abdominal pain - but it's at the point I pull my leg back after stepping forward that it hurts (not the constant abdominal pain).  There is currently no reason to do a partial or full hip replacement yet per the doctor, though I debate that point!

I had uterine ablation a few years ago to cut the duration of my periods (they were either 14 days long or a period for a week every two weeks). It helped a lot, however, the OBGYN said if it wasn't working, we may take out my uterus.  He also indicated that with perimenapause, the pain can change.  Ya think?

Three months ago I started getting intensive abdominal pain 3-6 days before my period. It felt like gas, menstral cramps, and the soft tissue hip pain all in one.  So bad that I too was crying out in pain and hoping no one could hear me in my office as I tried to find a way to get comfortable or wait for meds to kick in.  Sometimes it felt better to have a bowel movement, sometimes it didn't.  I'm pretty regular (2-3 movements per day), so don't have issues there (though had IBS at one point with up to 22 bowel movements a day alternating with constipation - that can also cause stabbing pains in the abdomin and have taken Hyoscyamine for the pain - so I know the difference there too).  I have a microwave heating pad that I use if I'm home writhing in pain that helps some. It takes 1600 mgs of IBU to make a dent in the pain.

This morning the pain lasted about 5 hours until I took the second 800 mg of IBU. So, now I'm not sure whether to go to the OBGYN, the gastrologist or orthopedic specialist! I'm in between jobs, so wondering if this is a good time to look at having any necessary surgeries.  I'd appreciate any thoughts or opinions.  Best of luck to all who are suffering with this - it's quite an enigma!

I am so glad to see at least that I am not the only one with this "condition".  About 5 years ago it started for me.  Always like the second day of my period but mercifully never has lasted longer than 1 hour.  But I must say that hour is excrutiating.  Can not be comforted by position, heat, ice, pain meds take too long to kick in, going to bathroom, etc.  I usually crawl around on the floor breathing heavy.  Lying still is too uncomfortable, too.  The pain is usually in the left lower quadrant but has been on the right also.  I have had 2 ultrasounds- 1 internal and 1 external- with no diagnosis. At first it was every month now every few.  Has been as long as 5 months without the pain.  So strange.  When it occurs, all I have to say to my family is that I am "having that bad pain again" and all my kids (4 of them) and my husband know I need them to just leave me alone for about an hour.  I am grateful that it doesn't last longer but I wish I knew what the cause was.

I've had this problem almost exactly 4-5 days before my period.  Sometimes it happens every month, sometimes it skips a month or two.  It usually lasts about 1-3 hours.  Sometimes it feels like it's stomach/GI related, but now after trying to conceive and keeping track of cycles, I have noticed it happens at the exact same point in my cycle.  It seems semi stomach/GI related though, I often think I may be constipated or gassy at that time too.

I have the same issue~it doesn't happen every cycle, but when it does it happens on the third day of my period. Debilitating pelvic pain on the right side, but it doesn't radiate down to my leg, it radiates up my right side. It hurts so badly all I can do is breathe through it til it's over. For what it's worth I usually get pain like this when I ovulate every month as well, only that can be either left or right side. So I'm guessing it's cysts.

I too have something similar but haven't been able to completely identify with what I've been reading here.  I get extreme lower abdominal cramping about 7 days before I start my period.  The pain never lasts longer than 20 minutes but it comes at different intervals throughout the day.  I have found that an orgasm alone during this time of the month will bring on the pain without intercourse.  That brings on the most severe of the cramping.  Regular OTC meds do not help whatsoever and Lortab doesn't help much either.  Doctor originally thought it may be Endo but most recent doctor says it doesn't add up.  When the pain comes on, I usually feel the urge to just push while sitting on the toilet.  I don't have the urge to go to the bathroom but just to push.  I had an ultrasound at one point with nothing found a few years back.  Recent Dr thinks it could be some type of cyst that is swelling during those 7 days before my period that then deflates once it starts.  Once my period starts, I'm pain free.  This happens every single month.

An update for any of you interested- I have been free of this for the past several months- Yeay!!! So relieved. The only thing different is my diet. Avoiding all refined sugar and flour. (They are inflammatory) Diet change was to support hubby in his weight loss efforts but I have had the added benefit of losing 10 lbs and being symptom free for the past 4 months! Hope it helps you, too!

Hi there,

I have been experierencing the same pain as you have described above, and was wondering if you could share with me the outcome of what you have been through since this post. I have seen many doctors and specialists and am currently on a waiting list to have another Laparoscopy but am getting sick and tired of not knowing what is going on with my body. In 2010 I had my apendix seperated from my bowel and doctors are still telling me it has something to do with my reproductive system. If there is any information that you could share with me it would be greatly appreciated. :)

hey everyone, I replied just above this a few days ago. and kept continuing to search for alternate diagnosis as i do not want to go through surgery again!  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

some of the symptoms matched mine and sinec the treatment which they don't mention is non surgical i figured it was massage/therapy. But long story short if you have hurt your back at any one time. you could be getting referred pain. which is why some people who have had hystorectamys has not worked. (my doctors want me to have one) i'm in new Zealand so i found a therapy company went and explained what i had found. 4 years ago i fell off a horse and about 6 months later i started suffering severe abdominal pain. which did coinside with my period. but was actually nothing to do with it. ONE TREATMENT. and for the first time in 3 1/2 years i have been pain free i get random twinges of pain. but i just have to go back regualary and i should be fine!! Stuff those doctors who think they know everything! they end up ruining peoples chance of having kids or future kids and in the end just tell you the pain is part of life and to live with it! I hope this helps heaps of women out there. The weight the has been lifted of my shoulders is huge! im getting married in 6 months and now i don't have to worry about having kids!!

i have the same exact problem, it starts on week three of my cycle and last almost up untill i get my period. The pain normally comes really bad on day 11 usually in the night. I cant have intercourse on week three as it causes the pains, which are extremely severe i nearly pass out. I cant exercise as it hurts, it comes on more after i have passed urine.

I went to my GP who told me it was Mittelschmerz (German: "middle pain") I am not totally convinced, she said this was me ovulating but i dont see how that is possible as i know what ovulation pains are, they are much milder and i can feel them in week 2.

I have had many tests done as i have been through fertility treatment, i feel these pains are part of the course for me not getting pregnant. Nothing has come up as being a problem.

I feel like i need to get back to the GP. These pains really get me down and its refreshing to hear i am not alone.

I suggest that you ladies research a disease called porphyria. It is a rare genetic metabolic disorder that can cause most of the symptoms listed. The unbearable abdominal spasms before menses (different than pms), dark (purple to copper) urine which may look like blood, intestinal problems, urine retention, pain in extremities, and more. Unfortunately, it can be very hard to diagnose and because it is so rare you may have a difficult time getting a Dr to test for it. Research it and approach your Dr with as much evidence as you can gather like blood relatives with similar symptoms. I suspect that this disease is rare but also grossly misdiagnosed as PMS and IBS. Best wishes to all of you.
