Hi there
I too suffer from bad pains right around the time my period is due too but it isn't every month. Sometimes I have "dream" periods where they aren't accompanied with much or any pain where as other months I get bad pain. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis about 9 years ago and had one operation for that. It is probably time for another op as my gyno did say I may need more in the future. The pain you have described as having (after deficating) is very much identical to mine.
Go get checked up for Endo. Sounds like you may have that or perhaps an ovarian cyst - which I also have.
Good luck with your diagnosis, by the way, the only sure-fire way for determining Endo for certain is by laproscopic surgery where they put a camera in thru near your navel for a look in your abdominal cavity. Trans abdo scans are not powerful enough to give a propper diagnosis. They need to actually get up close to your "baby bits" for a good look.
Best of luck to you :o)

Im so thankful that I found this and read it all.
I'm 20 and for the past 2 years I've had this problem. I started having this pain and i had no clue what was going on, through the first year and a half I was on the pill and didn't have very much pain, but I knew something was wrong because whenever i would touch my side it would to painful, but only with a touch. After a year and a half I went off of the pill and that pain still consisted, but I started to realize that about a week before my period would come I would go a day with awful pain on my lower left side. I was very confused. Through out the entire 2 years I saw my doctor probably 4 times and each time she told me that her opinion was that it was just a pulled muscle and to let it heal for a couple months. I knew to myself that it was NOT a pulled muscle but I waited it out, and every time I would go back she would tell me the exact same thing. Finally, I left the office in tears thinking I was getting no where, I called a gynaecologist. Going in to see him, he didn't know what to tell me right away but send me for ultrasounds to be done. The lady that did it couldn't find my left overy.. when I got those results back i was confused, and so was my own gynaecologist! He still didn't know what to tell me! He mentioned that I COULD have endo. But there is know way to find out unless I undertake surgery, and that will only tell me if i have it or not. Im very confused about this, I've never had the pain get so bad that I go to the ER but its been horrible enough where I have trouble walking, sitting, laying down, and I get terrible back pain. I'm confused why i haven't been able to get an answer , A huge fear of mine is not being able to have my own children because thats something I want more than anything in life, so loved reading how some of the posts above said it was possible for them. Lots of this was reassurance to me that I'm not the only one going through this but I just want to know whats going on !!!!!

Hi.I'm 23 years old and I am keeping the same pains as everyone has been describing, I seem to get really bad pains a week or so before my period is due. And I can also get them from time to time in between periods as-well through the month. The last time I went to my GP about this she sent me to everything doctor possible and they couldn't find anything wrong, but then I saw my proper GP and she found I had small wart like lumps on the wall of my vagina and they were removed and I never had the pain again..... and I was stopped from taking the pill. But now the pains have started to come back, I have been to see my GP and mentioned to her if it is possible the lumps have come back, she took a look but she couldn't find anything, and sent me away :(They are getting really painful now and some days I can't get up as I'm in so much pain it double's me up.

Unfortunately I just now found this discussion (on 11/7/2013). I am hoping that any of you that have posted previously will respond with any new information you may have or any diagnosis you may have been given along with the treatment.
Here is my story. I am a 42 year old white, childless, married female (of course). I'm 5'6" and 160lbs; so I am average in size. I am not trying to get pregnant and I have all of my "lady parts." For about the past year I have been having severe pain about 7-10 days prior to my period. When I finally start my period, the pain stops. (My periods are now often very heavy and odorous.) The pain varies in "type" - stabbing, sharp, pulsing, radiating. It can be around my right ovary, my back (right side exactly behind my right ovary) and radiate down my right leg, all the way across my pelvic area, and even around my rectum/anus. These episodes last about 10 - 20 minutes at a time and come on randomly throughout the day; often waking me up in the middle of the night. On a scale of 1-10, they range from a 7 to a 15. The pain is sometimes so bad it makes me nauseated. OTC pain meds don't relieve the pain at all. I had some left-over Hydrocodone from a dental procedure and it helps. So does using a heating pad; but I can't carry one of those around with me all day.
Because of my husband's job, we move frequently - about once a year, so its hard to find a doctor and follow-up. We have just relocated to Orlando, FL and will be in the Orlando/Tampa area for the next three years so I have found a doctor and we are trying to figure out what is wrong - she says she has no idea. She did say I have a tilted uterus and that might explain the rectal/anal pain. She also said she's sure it isn't Endometriosis since that pain stops when I start my period. I have an ultrasound scheduled for Monday, 11/11 and a biopsy the following week.
I found an article on one site that states, "... corpus luteum cystic gland forms on one of the ovaries at the site where an egg was released from the ovary. This is a hormonally functional gland that produces progesterone primarily. The gland causes the ovary to become larger and heavier for a while until the cystic area goes away when menses starts." Could this be my problem?
I'd really appreciate any comments, ideas, solutions, etc. I'm about at my wits end with this; however, after reading all of the previous comments, I feel better now that I know I am not the only one dealing with this.
Thanks,
Jill

Same exact thing here too, with mine it is cripling, hurts to sit, stand, walk, bend, sneeze, cough, laugh and having bowel movement almost kills me. I went to the ER and the did ultra sound, one ovarie smaller than the other and fluid around big ovarie, say's they are most likely ovairan cysts. It's odd for me though, I had my tubes tied five years ago, I was told having your tubes tied stopped you from producing eggs, eggs cause ovarian cysts when the get stuck in the wall of the ovarie. I have an appt with my Dr in two weeks going to tell him to check for ovarian cancer and Endometriosis and see if he will just give me a hysterectome, I am over this pain, I am stay at home mom of five children, I cannot afford to out of commision or a week every month!!

It is good to find people who are experiencing the same, or very similar symptoms, but it is frustrating that there is no definitive reason or solution.
About four or five months ago, I woke one morning and was hit with these excruciating, unexplained pains out of the blue. I am 49, have four grown kids, and have never suffered any kind of period pain in my life. This was like giving birth magnified to the power of 100+. I couldn't stand upright, the pain was deep in my lower right abdomen and shot down my leg constantly. I was crying, flushing hot or shiverung alternately, felt sick and could find no position in which the pain was relieved. OTC meds did little to nothing to help and a hot water bottle gave minimal relief.
This has now happened four times, not every period. At first it was mid-cycle but now it is completely random, this month on my second day of bleeding. My smears have been clear and aside from an imbalance in my vaginal flora (treated adn now fine) there are no other symptoms. I am wodnering if there is any association with peri-menopause or hormones generally?
If anyone gets any answers, I'll be monitoring the thread and keeping my fingers crossed

I was having a pain similar to the one described by many guests here. I was nearly suicidal when I finally found a doctor who was willing to investigate. The Doctor found that I had scar tissue growing around my colon and tethering it to my abdominal wall. After the operation the only time I feel pain is in the week before my period. It's almost become my sure sign that AF is on the way. This I can't explain.

Ohmgosh! You have just described what has been happening to me for the past three months. This past time I finally went to the ER only to be told I had likely strained a muscle...since I gave birth nine months ago, these seemed to somehow be a logical conclusion. Have you found out what it is yet?
