I am a 25 year old healthy male, never had any surgeries or broken bones (knock on wood)
Just last night I was woken up with a sharp intermittent back pain. The pain is located below the shoulder blades and seems to spread to mid back. It only last several seconds and it goes and comes goes throughout the day.
I was scared and thought it was my lungs and went to the doctor for a checkup. Doc said everything seemed fine and said I might've pinched a nerve or irritated the muscle around the area? Usually from the past when that happens to me its a constant pain, not a pain that comes and goes. Sometimes the pain will be gone for a hour and 2 and then it will come back every 20 seconds :(
I think the pain is worst when I try to lay down and go to sleep. The only thing that helps me sleep is if I ice it for 20 mins and then go to sleep. After I while I wake up in the middle of the night hurting and I have to ice it again to numb the pain and go back to sleep. I do this about 3-4 times a night.
Can this be nerve or muscle problem or something more complicated then that? I've just never experienced pain that would come and go like that. 1 second I will be in lots of pain and the other I am perfectly fine.
