I thought I was the only one! I'm 14 and I get them. It used to happen every now and then but it's starting to happen a lot more. I'm worried about it because sometimes it hurts so bad I can barely breath and when I try it feels like my ribs are about to go through my skin. My mom said it could be gas related but I have heard a few other things. If anyone finds out what it actually is could you let me know? ...

I have a similar pain and yet another pain not so similar I think...I get the one where if you try to breath while the sharp pain is there it hurts even worse...but I find taking the deep breath, no matter how bad it hurts, usually gets rid of the pain quickly...now to my other pain...I get a pain in my left breast (or under it) that feels like my heart is being squeezed and then released...it is one that will come and go sometimes for 15 minutes, other times for hours...it happens a lot at night...I also tend to have a fast heartbeat lately...running around 100 -120 resting all the time...today I had a pain coming and going but it was more of a burning and tingling pain that felt like my breast was on fire...it would come and go and lasted about 6 hours...it was very weird because I had not had one like that before...do any of you get either the squeezing pain that comes and goes or the burning and tingling pain that comes and goes?  If so, have you gone to the doctor and what did they say? I told a doctor about it a few years ago and they did an EKG which was normal...after that he just dismissed me...now it concerns me that it happens because I was on Darvocet for chronic pain for about 4 years and they have discontinued Darvocet because it was causing heart problems...I still have chronic pain but take Tylenol 4 and I have migraines...I dread talking to my doctor about this becuase I feel like it is yet another health complaint I have...I have had 6 knee surgeries, a partially ruptured achilles tendon, and migraines...who wants to add anything else to the list...also, I was recently found to be severly lacking in Vitamin D and am on my 3rd round of high dose Vitamin D...hopefully this is the last one otherwise I have to see a specialist since my body isn't absorbing Vitamin D.  Anyways, thanks for any help any of you can offer!

I had the same thing when I was in my late teens. It might be stress related or something I found online was that it might be a nerve getting compressed from the way you are sitting if that it when it is happening. I never thought to ask my doctor about it as it didn't happen very often. I'm in my early 20's and might have had it happen once of twice in the last couple of years.
Talk to your doctor just to be on the safe side.

I'm getting the same problem too, but I'm not sure if it's the same problem as everyone's. I'm 13 and I'm getting this throbbing under my left breast and it's going continually when I'm not moving but it stops when I'm moving about. I'm not really sure but I'm also having my period right now so it could just be that my body is starting to grow or something I'm not sure. And when my body is growing i have a lot of questions so I hope people can help me.

I was wondering if any of you have taken antibiotics such as Levaquin or Cipro? Floxy antibiotics and possibly for treating UTI. Has anyone sought chiropractic care for possible misalignment?? your back may be out of alignment causing ribs and sternum (under your breast) to become painful. I have had my gallbladder out and I still have these issues so I doubt that it is gallbladder. i do have gastritis and acid reflux so I wonder if it may be digestive as well. I am seeking chiropractic care next... good luck and keep responses coming if anyone finds more information...

From my personal experience, when I had gases trapped in my stomach. I got pains in my lower rib area or stomach when I was sitting or bent a certain way, this passed with time. It also might help to get into a bowing position on the floor, though I wouldn't recommend this be done in public places.
Also if you have this problem, you might find out which foods bother you in this way or find a good anti-gas supplement.
When I had a rib beneath my sternum, I could not take more than half a breath or so, otherwise I would get a sharp pain that would buckle the upper half of my body over.
I still get a sharp pain occasionally in the center of my left rib, it is random. It's possible that it could be stress (for me) as it is very easy for me to worry too much about entirely too many things. I don't recall getting these kind of pains when I got a reasonable amount of sleep (about 8 hours) regularly, ate healthy foods most of the time, exercised regularly, and drank plenty of water. This might not be the same for you though, but then again, sometimes just one of these things can affect many more easily than thought. If you try this, you might want to give it a month or two to see how it affects you. If you suspect cancer or a tumor, it might be best to get that checked out first.

Although I've heard that cancer isn't usually painful in the early stages (like breast cancer) until either tumors start pressing against an organ or nerve or the cancer is shutting the body down, if there is a history of cancer or concern about it, you might want to get an ex-ray and perhaps even a second opinion to be sure and/or blood testing. Tumors can be cancerous (caused by cancer) or malignant (non-cancerous harmless unless grows to point of interfering with the body's processing).

Hopefully this helps a little with narrowing down the possibilities.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention, the rib beneath the sternum was consistent with deeper breaths (than half a breath or so) for three weeks until I got it adjusted. You could try a chiropractor, mine was very difficult to get out, but is not the case for all.

a chiropractor helped me a ton..my spine was misaligned from my work. Caused pain in my ribs (under my breast and at sternum) You will have to make frequent visits for a bit until your bod will accept the new positioning

Hi i am 12 years old and i know i shouldn't really be on here or worrying but i have the same problem (kinda) every time i bend to my right or even in my PE class i suddenly stop and with out an alarm i start to be out of breath and trouble breathing but the pain is just under my left breast and its on the bone bit if you feel just under your breast the big sticking out bone thing that is were my pain is. Today my first lesson was PE and we were playing basket ball as i FINALLY got the ball i bounced it over to the net jumped and a i can only shoot with my left arm i stretched and bounced at the time i scored luckily but as i came back to the ground instead of landing on my feet i landed on my knees in a lot of pain and i was unable to breve properly i panicked which i shouldn't have because it only made the pain worse, then it sort of fainted and died down i couldn't feel it any more, well, i could feel it faintly, nest i had maths and as i sat down on my seat and started to work the pain grow around the left side of my back and then again ... i couldn't breve but because i was in a middle of an exam i sort of had to deal with it... then i felt a kind of pulling not in my arm pit but just outside of it i shook it and carried on...now that was a bit strange as i do not write with my left hand. It all seems to be happening on my left side It doesn't effect my legs or toes it just really hurts and i was concerned something was wrong i told my parents and they don't know what to do i thought about begging them to make and appointment but my mam has just had a op and is still in hospital so i didn't want to bug her. Does anyone know what i should do???

Thank you.
Ps: sorry about the spelling im not the best at English

It is because your gallbladder is gone. It was a year or two after mine was removed that other problems with my stomach/digestion began. Everyone's problems will vary, diarhea, cramps, mine is mostly bloating & pain. Your only recourse is to watch the spices, dairy, or fats---you will have to figure out the main culprit for you. Take an enzyme with every meal especially for those without gall bladders---make sure it has ox bile in it. Basically, your digestive system has changed because of no gallbladder--no matter what anyone says about 'not really needing the gallbladder'---yes, you can exist, but most people will have to change diet.
