Hi, I'm an 18 year old female. I started getting these chest pains you've described (throbbing near the left breast) since I was about 16. At first I figured stresses at school and such, but I quickly figured out it couldn't be stress because these chest pains start up randomly. I can be watching tv calmly and it'll start up. I'm about 115lbs which is a good weight for my size and I've been active in sports since I was about 5 years old.

What has me concerned recently is the chest pains have gotten so severe at times that the pain has radiated to my back (which is incredibly painful, incase anyone has experienced it). Cardiac problems do seem to run in my dad's side of the family, I guess I'm just afraid to see a doctor and come back with bad news, so until I find the courage to get checked out.. anyone have any ideas what the heck this is?

PS- I guess being a smoker doesn't exactly help the whole situation?

hi i am 16 and i also had that problem they said i had flem inside of my ribs and thats how you get numonia which could harm you bad if it is real bad nomonia can kill you go get it checked out asap

I'm 19 and I get these pains too every once in awhile. When I do get them it hurts only when I inhale. Tonight it hurt and brought me to tears.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm 12 and i have a problem with this aswell! It's more of a dis comfort..but my doctor tells me its because of my anxiety/stress. Don't worry about it. Go to the doctors and explain to him the feeling if it gets to a point where you cant handle it! My throbbing/pulse below my left rib only lasts one to three seconds the most and goes away and happens every few days if not every day. I feel like i have alot of mucus and chest congestion but that's also a part of anxiety. i could live with it..its more of the realization of having it that bothers me. 'What if its something worse?' as i google tons of symptoms and believe im adapting to them. I just always need reassurance as if im ok or not. I'm trying to cope. :)

your gall bladder is on you right side not your left, your left side under the heart is the spleen and the stomach is next to the spleen more towards the middle of the body. so the pain cannot be the gall bladder.

hello
i went thur the same thing when i was 21..they said it was afib... to this day i still have it. im 25 now and ive learned to deal with the pain. rather then the hospital telling me they cant do anything. ive been thru hell and back but ive also had my heart at 300 and almost had a stroke. get it looked at before somthing bad happens.

I started getting those same sharp pains when I was 17 or 18 years old. My doctor told me that it was caused by stress. I'm now 28 and still get them but now it will happen under either breast or over either breast. I don't believe that it's stress because they happen with no rhyme or reason. I really hope that you can get a better answer from your doctor

MY daughter has the same thing since she was 16 and they diagnosed her with Costochondritis.
