Hi, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. :-)
I'm 20 years old, and got my period very late. It started off normally, with a normal to heavy flow, but for about three to four years now, my periods, though they've come more or less regularly, are very light. They usually last three days, with the first day being the only time I can even wear a tampon. Otherwise the flow is too light. However I have severe cramps. Sometimes I can't even move, or do anything but curl up and cry. It's really bad; I have to miss classes some months and skip days and reschedule plans. The pain seems to have gotten a lot worse over the last year.
I went to a doctor, but she only said I should take more tylenol or whatnot before and during my period. I don't know if this helps any, but every woman on my mother's side of the family has PCOS, and both my aunts have endometriosis. And we all have fibromyalgia, too (though I don't think that connects with anything here). I do have excess hair and acne, as well as some sleep problems, but I am not overweight (although I'm underweight but carry excess fat around my middle). I am not sexually active and so never have tried getting pregnant or felt any pain after intercourse.
I'm wondering what to do. My periods are so painful and I really don't want to live with it. It's driving me crazy. Do I just go to a different doctor or is there something you can recommend?
