WOW! Same thing happened to me also. I just drink a bottle of water and it goes away. It may be that I am dehydrated or something.

I also have the same issue. Last night I drank about 10+ shots of fireball. I was pretty well intoxicated but my shoulders started killing me I was almost in tears. My face and arms went numb. I'm glad to see more people have this issue. It doesn't always happen to me, but when it does it's awful.

This happens to me! Omg I'm glad I'm not alone. It happens usually after I drink, although sometimes it won't happen. But it usually does. It feels like an adrenaline rush and "aching" in my muscles like they hurt. Not sure what this phenomenon is called. I've even gotten the feeling that my jaw is tightening. It's so odd. I wish I knew why this happened or what it was called.

I really thought I was the only one with this issue. My shoulders and across the top of my chest hurt after the first sip. It usually lasts no longer than 15 minutes and it's only when I drink alcohol but it happens with every thing I drink. I'm a once and a blue moon drinker but it still happens.

Hi All,
I too, suffer from the same issue. My bouts with this percurious pain seem to be associated with sweet, or sugary drinks. I have only ever suffered in my right shoulder & chest. They last sny where from 15 - 40 min. Its always followed by some burping. I haven't had it happen in years, until last night. We went to a chili cook off and I carried a sprite & Tito's (vodka) in with me. I can usually drink this combination but I didn't have lunch yesterday and we were outside in the extreme heat. It was one of my most severe reactions. I typically only drink beer and the only time it has ever happened on beer, I was drinking summer shandy, a sweet beer. I stay away from ALL mixed drinks & cocktails. I wish I had a reasonable explanation but I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this freakish reaction to drinking.

I have neck and shoulder pain with beat red face sometimes when drinking. Last 20 to 45 minutes. I'm thinking it's because I'm slightly dehydrated from not having water that day.

I have this same problem. It happens no matter what kind of alcohol drink. I'm not a beer drinker. I find that drinking milk or sometimes creamer if that's all thats available make the pain subside much faster. I think it has to do with acidic drinks. But would really like to know why it happens.

I know it can't be something too long term because it started happening to me about 5 years ago. I think the trigger is sugar and alcohol combined (just happened to me last weekend after drinking a lot of vodka and OJ) I had it decided that it was a panic attack last time... We were at a street festival in a store (pretty drunk) and that neck tightening/pain/sweat came on. My friends took me out of the store and back to their apartment where I laid down and after about one minute, I felt fine again. I assumed it was panic related because once my heart rate slowed down, it went as fast as it came. It may have been that or it may have been that about 15 min had past between being in the store and sitting in the apartment... Whatever it is, it still remains a mystery

I know that these posts are over a year old but I feel that I must respond. I've had the same symptoms that started about 20 years ago. I have definitely discovered the culprit. High fructose corn syrup. I am not drinking alcohol any more due to a heart condition and I do avoid sugar. I had to go a whole day just drinking clear liquids and picked up a mixed fruit drink. About half way through the bottle I got the shoulder pain and really sick feeling and new exactly what was in that bottle. High Fructose Corn Syrup was the second ingredient after water

I have had this type of pain ever since I started drinking alcohol, but only when I consumed sweet carbonated drinks. The unbearable pain stated between my scapula and would often radiate forward to my mediastinum. When I was younger, I didn't know what to do to stop the pain except to induce vomiting, which worked quite well after a minute or so, but is not fun nor is it glamorous. But as I got older I found myself having this same reaction to sweet nonalcoholic drinks, and other things as well. I found that TUMMS clear this right up. Sometimes it takes more than two extra strength tablets, but it sure does beat having to force oneself to vomit, and it especially beats having a pain that, literally, takes your breath away for such an extended period of time!!!!!
