Hello as an 8 year user of Methotrexate I don't seem as yet to have suffered any bad side effects. I did take 8 a week but I then had a new drug called Mabthera and with this infused drug once a year or till you require it again I have to take 4 methotextrate. Being a sufferer of RA for 35 years believe me the side effect possibility is worth taking the risk, being tired on the one day is all I suffer. I am now 70 and feel my best, I feel as though I have my life back. I hope my imput helps others who maybe considering not taking it.
My fatehr and a very good freind have died form this drug . I would warn people to be very carefull of it . My father contracted a rare side effect called fibrosing alvellitus ( inflamtaion of the lung ) and died in my mothers arms one night with heart failure.. Towards the end he was on oxygon and was a shell of a man . all because he had a little bit of shoulder pain..
My friend recently, a young mother of 43 , who had arthritus died of heart failure just a few days ago. due to a toxic reaction to this drug. she had had blood poisoning in hospital when she had her child and should never have been allowed to stay on thisdrug . I think this drug should be taken off perscription. and peolel should be monitored all the time when on it by thier GP.

I am a very concerned mother of a 7 year old girl who has rheumatoid arthritis. She started out with this disease in two ankle joints in her right foot but it has started to affect other joints in her feet and now her jaw. In fact, her jaw was never detected until I brought the appearance of her jaw to the attention of her rheumatologists. She has been on Naprosyn for years and now the next step is methotrexate. Honestly, this drug scares the c**p out of me. All these horrible side affects. Is there anyone out there that has a young child on this drug? My baby is suppose to start this drug in less than two weeks and I don't know if this is a good thing or a not so good thing. Can anyone give me any insite on this drug as far as a young child is concerned.
Thank you so much
Thank you so much
My cousin took it when she was about six, I don't remember how badly the side effects affected her, but she is now 14 nd has been in remission for several years.
I'm eighteen and I have been on it for six weeks as of last friday for my ra and it makes me feel horrible. I can hardly eat and usually the day after I take it usually I spend the next day with my head in the toilet. Emetrol works well for the nausea, its sold over the counter, it doesn't affect the meds, and it's not bad tasting

I have an auto-immune problem caused by my thyroid and have been suffering from severe urtercaria and 3 bouts of anaphalctic shock for which I was hospitalsed. I took prednisalone for about 9 months (30mg reducing to nil over several months), stopped taking it in November and I have since been taking Methatrexate in it's place for 2 months. My consultant has now taken me off mrethatrexate as I was feeling awful, severe nausea, stomach cramps and diarreoa, tiredness and breathlessness (can't walk and talk at the same time).
How long, now I'm not taking it, can I expect the side effects to continue? Also, I gained a huge amount of weight taking prednisalone, how long before it starts to go?
Can someone out there give me some answers as my consultant is very non-commital about the whole thing.
Celia

Hi
I have been on Methotrexate for about 4 years. I does make me tired and occasionally a little nauseous but in general its not too bad. When I first took it it was much worse but after a few weeks / months I started to feel almost normal. My advice is to persevere as the side affescts will diminish for most people and it does work.
Good luck

I have been on Methotrexate for RA for 8 years. It changed my life. Before taking this medication I could barely make it through work each day. The pain and fatigue from the RA was unbearable. Yes, it does have its side-effects, but it is so worth it for me. Take your methotrexate on a full stomach. Also, take it with a full glass of water. It takes a month or two to feel the full benefits of the medication, so hand in there!
I started Methotrexate for Crohn's disease and I have many side effects. I have numbness throughout my body and I am extremely tired. I also have blurred vision and a very low sex drive from it. I am taking six pills once a week. The pills are helping my disease but I the side effects are killing me. I am thinking to stop the pills and suffer with my disease on my own.
I absolutely understand with your answer and totally agree - I will do ANYTHING to be psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis free today. I can die another day as long as I am free today to live and love and fully experience life without the effects of these horrible diseases! Keep on thriving! I love your attitude
I took it for three months and ended up very seriously ill still recovering 5 months later had kidney problems lung infection and to end it all part of my heart is not working properly and there is no heart condisions ever in my family just be carefull
