I am a female of 51 and am puzzled by the fact that my nipples are tender and sore as when I was young and breast feeding my children. There is no discharge, no swelling and not cracks or flakiness. I have felt my breasts but the soreness in only in the nipples and I don't feel lumps anywhere.

What could be the problem?
