Did u ever find out the issue this post is a a year old. I get fluttering my self not often though few times a month I am very over weight I've had my heart checked several times ekg, stress test, heart ultra sound, lipids test etc drs all say my heart is fine I went to 2 differnt cardiologist. I'm 35 how ever the fluttering started around same time I started with breathing issues first diagnosis was asthma which was later cleared by a pulmonary dr 2nd diagnosis was copd emphysema by a regular dr pulmonary dr cleared me of that as well I had a scope test of stomach and butt they found mild reflux in stomach as well as gastritis they tried me on every medicine there was I started with chest pains I went to er 9 times in 2016 started not only having chest pains but pains in my neck arms legs tired all the time stomach pain and a sharp pain in my left breast I had mammogram done all clear. I started choking ocasionally when I'd eat and I felt full early I lost 40 lbs drs removed my gall bladder thinking all this was related to gall bladder not functioning right I also developed tachycardia that's high heart rate and high blood pressure removing my gallbladder was useless now it's all coming down to sleep apnea and a hiatial hernia. I'm chrently trying to get surgery for the hernia and going to try an get a sleep apnea mask for home I've had allot of issues with sleep study test because my stomach isn't right all the air from machine was blowing me up like a balloon giving me bad gas. As of right now pulmonary dr believes hetnia, cardiologist both of them believe hernia, all my primary drs believe hernia, stomach internist believes hiaitsl hernia. So basically a hiatial hernia can cause allllllot of problems and drs don't generally know much about them the general belief by drs is it don't cause pain, and you have Gerd because of it but, it's way more then that. That hernia affects your nerves lungs heart stomach body esophagus etc etc. I'm currently on medicine for esophageal spasms , blood pressure pills, hearth rate pills. No Gerd medications work. All I'm saying is could be a hiatal hernia. I've been terrified for 2 years now thinking I'm dying and I may finally have the truth to all my problems. I can tell you the esophagus spasms feel differnt from the fluttering. The spasms are jolts of pain that last a few seconds come and go. The fluttering is well fluttering feeling kinda like sipping soup off a spoon or gas in your stomach but it's in the chest. Also I want to add that I failed a pulmonary function test that is why they use to test for emphysema don't let nobody tell you that pulmonary function test don't lie or it cant be nothing else every dr I went to aggrred that If a pulmonary function test proved emphysema then I got it I searched and searched the Internet for answers no one had ever posted failing a pulmonary function test and not having emphysema but, a hiatial hetnia can make u fail a pft because it affects your breathing and ability to take in deep breaths. For a year 1 cried thinking I had lung disease none of the emphysema meds would help me and they are extremely expensive also oxygen would not help drs were puzzled by that because normally oxygen help emphysema patients breath better. But there are a rare few people with emphysema that oxygen doesn't help it had something to do with carbon dioxide in their body's or something like that I forget. As of right now I got normal lungs a healthy heart but a hiatial hernia affecting all that. The pain in breast also hernia related it can cause dizziness as well. Also I want to add the dr who found my hernias first opinion of it was it was too small to cause problems another myth. I have 80% lung function right now but a small hital hernia how about that. They are unsure if the hernia or sleep apnea is causing the fatigue high blood pressure and tachycardia but I may soon get those answers as well.

Thanks for that. The symptoms you mentioned are exact! I have a history of costochondritis episodes. The muscle spasm / megnesium deficiency section of your comment makes sense. So Ive taken some magnesium and 250mg of naproxen so it doesnt escalate into an attack. If the small muscles are spasming then chances are the big ones are next. If it doesnt ease up ill take myself to the doctor.

I'm so glad I found this forum.  I've had this fluttering without any pain but feeling like I need to catch my breath for years now.  But recently, within the last couple of months, the fluttering or spasm has increased to many times a day.  I've gone to the doctor but since it's hard to explain what's going on, the doctors seem clueless.  The last EKG I've had was about 6 years ago and it came back normal.  When the doctors listen to your heart and breathing, they say it's all normal.  Just knowing there are others who relate to this eases some of the anxiety associated with it.  I've bookmarked the pages and plan to show this to my doctor.

Thanks!

I too am so happy that I stumbled across this website, and especially this thread. To those of you who took time to give your advice on this matter - thanks so much! You have no idea how much this has helped me, and probably many many more.

My story looks a lot like the ones you have been telling. First time I experienced this, I actually thought it was the end for me. I could not walk 2 steps without the feeling of my heart jumping out of my body.
Went to the emergency room and they tested both my heart and lungs - big surprise, nothing wrong. Ever since I have been going to the doctors regularly, but they could not find anything wrong. It has been a couple of very hard months until I came across this very thread.

The last two weeks has been almost normal - because I now take magnesium as supplements.
I also take B6 vitamins and make sure to eat foods with high doses of natural magnesium and cut down on coffee and milk and instead increase intake of water.
This seems to be the cure for me (fingers crossed).

Again, to those of you who suggested this - thanks a million times!

I am thrilled to come across this page. I call my episodes palpitations but I do not think that is what it is. I get a feeling either in my chest, throat or both. It lasts maybe a second but it is like a quick kick from the inside. It sort of takes my breath away. I also wore a holter monitor and had the episodes several times while wearing it but the cardiologist said I was fine. It had stopped for almost a year and is happening now again. I can not focus sometimes bc I am focused so much on what they are.

37 y/o Male here. Having spasms off and on for about two years. I also take nexium(as the docs thought it was GI related), but getting theem more than ever now. I think I'll stop taking them for awhile and see if that helps. I also exercise regularly, drink coffee and wine daily. Am prone to prolonged levels of stress, but no panicky attacks.

I get spasms in my sternum area usually just as I'm falling asleep and also have a hiatal hernia. I have noticed that it seems to be caused by trapped gas so usually I sit up and belch and it stops. Also if I take GasX before bed I tend not to have them. Might be worth a try!

Cross your fingers. I think I might be able to offer some help.

I quit taking nexium as I read that taking it can hinder your body from absorbing calcium and magnesium.

One week ago I started taking magnesium ciltrate and centrum silver daily.

The first day my spasms swerve still there as normal

Day 2- slightly less spamming but not much of a noticeable improvement

Day 3 - obvious improvement but still spamming a couple of times a day

Day 4 and day 5 same as day 3

Day 6 - no spasming

Day 7 - no spasming

Day 7 and 9 the same

So I'm hoping this isn't just a placebo effect, but seems to have gone away. I'll keep posting my progress. Good luck you guys!

Weird, i started getting a wiggling feeling in my chest a few weeks ago. Recently lost a sh*t ton of weight. Happens usually late at night in bed and happens non stop until i fall asleep. Im not much of a worrier but i am going to see the doctor this monday for a different reason. Might bring this up just to make sure its not my heart. Though i suspect its not.
