I am 39 years old, not on birth control, no children, however I have had more than one abortion but not for a few years. I've always had heavy periods however starting about 5 months ago I started noticing pinkish discharge starting approximately 7 days after my period ends. At first it was a few days on and off. Now for the past 3 months the discharge or as I like to describe it as "seeping" is constant and more excessive than normal discharge. The flow is the same as a regular period I assume (my periods very, very heavy) therefore I am continuously wearing a tampon or pad. I've seen my docotor more than once concerning this and she has done more than one exam looking for any sign of things abnormal. She has suggested the folllowing, which I have not completed yet; first I need to go to the lab in the hospital and get 3 tests. One is a FreeT4, another is a TSH and I can't remember the 3rd. From what I can tell this has to do with the thyroid. If these test come back "okay" then I'm going to have an IUD put in.
My period lasts for only 5 days, the first day and half slightly mild to normal but day two and three are extremely ridiculous. Bleeding through tampon and heavy maxi pad with in one hour is not uncommon, accompanied with dark blood clots which literally fall out of me when ever I use the bathroom. Sorry for the graphic description, but I don't know how else to describe my situation.
The only reason I have not had the lab work and IUD inserted is because I can't afford the cost alone, and my insurance will not pick up any of the expense until it renews 6 months from now. So I've been searching for any kind of relief from this until then and hoping when I finally do have the IUD inserted it will remedy my situation.
Does this sound normal to anyone??? I can't help but think there is a greater problem here. Is there any kind of test anyone can recommend I suggest to my doctor? Get a second opinion? Please help me, help me!
Thank you for your time.
