Staphylococcus aureus is common inhabitant of human skin among other bacteria. If balance between bacteria disturbs or skin gets hurt by any reason, bacteria can multiply to inner skin layers causing an infection. It usually takes a couple of days to cure infection, but it can take much longer depending on the infected organ and general health condition of the person. Some propose washing the skin with an antibacterial cleanser, as defense against bacteria infections. However, like this normal bacterial flora is destroyed, and even more pathogen bacteria get a chance to settle on the skin. Applying an antibiotic ointment prescribed by a doctor, and covering the skin with a clean dressing is advisable when infection has occurred.
