In September 2012, I had a several bout with pneumonia, kidney's shut down, etc;etc. Ever since I came home from the hospital I have had the swelling in my fingers and hands all day long. Sometimes in the morning it's a lot worst. I have never had problems with my fingers or hands before the pneumonia. Any other ideas beside the Chiropractor?

I have this problem with swollen middle knuckle and stiff hand. I eat mostly organic foods, don't drink soda and am in pretty good shape. I do not take any medications. I really don't think this is diet related. I am sure this cannot be a chiropractic issue either. It is arthritic or circulatory. I tend to have lower blood pressure than most. I'm wondering if anyone else with this complaint has low blood pressure?

I have been working in a warehouse for about a month now. My hands have been swollen sore for past 3 wks. I wake up their numb and swollen for about a hr or so and then the pain subsidies but the swelling does not. Like most the pain goes away after awhile but it obviously doin something to my hands. It can only get worse so Im looking for a new job because if i keep this up I will deff end up with carpal tunnel or arthritis. Maybe you should ask your doc and check out any new places for work. Hope you heal and find a solution to your problem :)

As I fully agree with you on diet choices, I do have to disagree that "Cracking" your knuckles, or popping any joint, does not cause or increase the risk of arthritis, that is purely a myth. A chiropractor realigns joints, vertebrae, ect... They do not just "pop" your joints. Many problems that individuals are experiencing on any given day can be associated with a misalignment. I was experiencing extreme knee pain on and off for years, and my physician could not determine a cause. After visiting a chiropractor and discovering I had vertebrae out of place, problem solved. I also had swelling and knuckle pain during the first few hours after waking up on and off for months, caused again by a misalignment. The original suggestion made may have been by a chiropractor, but I am not.

I'm so glad you posted your findings about the fish oil supplements. I never would have thought of it. I started taking fish oil a week ago and woke up with stiff fingers. After I read your post, I stopped and a couple days later, no more stiff fingers!! Thank you for sharing, I feel so relieved. Hope you are well.

Hi Chelb, how are your hands doing? Did you ever find out what was wrong with them? I'm having the same problems with no pain in my hands. Mine came on very sudden too. I can't seem to get any answers . Can you please let me know if the cayenne pepper is helping. Thanks

I've had the same symptoms for nearly two years and I finally realised a lot of was down to dehydration coupled with a sensitivity to tomatoes. The fewer tomatoes I eat the better my hands feel.

I'm just a stay at home Mom with 5 kids, but I've had a lot of back injuries/problems over the years and I've had to go through a lot of physical therapy (I've done chiropractors a little, but haven't found them to be really helpful yet they don't spend enough time with you working to heal sore muscles, etc. Just a quick crack up & down my spine feels good for a moment, but for me, there is so much more going on than just what that can help with.).
I totally agree with you on this, that the symptoms people are dealing with could be nerve issues in the neck/back. (Obviously if someone knows they have a high salt diet & need to work on that, they should get blood work done & make sure those issues are healthy.) But if it's not that, then I hope people will get their spine, neck & back checked out.
I have had these same symptoms for the past couple of months. The numbness and severe swelling of my hands & fingers every morning when I wake up are very aggravating to deal with. I have neck & shoulder pain also. Sometimes I can't even lift my arms/shoulders for awhile when I wake up because they are so numb &/or painful. It takes me a good half hour to an hour of stretching, moving around & trying different positions, to try to get the blood flowing properly & the stiffness resolved enough for me to be able to move around normally enough to function in the mornings.
I am getting an MRI of my upper spine & neck soon. My pain management doctor believes I probably have a/some pinched nerves going on somewhere in my neck or upper back. He said to make sure I sleep with a very supportive pillow to help keep my neck forward a little to help relieve pressure on the spinal nerves in my neck. I want to go see a chiropractor or physical therapist to have help working on my upper back & neck pain. I'm hoping it's nothing too severe going on. I just had a baby 3 months ago & I know there's extra stress on my shoulders & neck from carrying her constantly & I know I'm not using proper supportive posture & pillows when I'm nursing her as well. This is probably aggravating my neck & back.
I've noticed in many of these posts that people have mentioned an increase &/or change in their physical activities, or they have a very physically demanding job, etc. It could be that some of you are causing extra strain on your neck & shoulders & haven't developed the proper posture & strength to be able to manage the physical activity that you're doing, & so you are straining your neck & shoulders which can compress the nerves in your neck. Compressed nerves in the neck is one of the most common causes of numbness, tingling, & swelling (poor circulation) of the hands & fingers. I would just recommend that people have their spine checked out. If you catch a spinal compression early, you may be able to fix it with proper massage, strengthening & physical therapy, which can help you avoid much more serious injury, pain or damage to your spine later on. From someone who's been in a bad car accident & had bad back injuries for years, you don't want to let a back/spine problem go undetected. You want to take care of it as quickly as possible! I really hope this might help someone else out there be able to figure out what's going on & be able to overcome their annoying symptoms of waking up in the morning with numb hands & fingers!! Get your neck/spine checked out ASAP. God bless!

You may have cut off the circulation to your hand. Don't put anything wrapped around any part of your body tightly for a long period of time. It's not healthy to cut off your circulation. Blood flow gives life to every part of your body - take away the blood flow & you take away the necessity it needs for life!
