it happens to me and be honest, it's nothing to worry about, its just through crapping things etc, I can't believe a doctor didn't know, the swollen finger are just your hands and fingers getting adjusted to the workload you do at work. just abit like weightlifting, your bones are getting used to it. So nowt to worry about.

i'm not a doctor ,i'm just a handyman worker and this happens to everyone shovelling or hammering , drilling etc... anything that involves a strong holding and constant triggering. so if that's the case when you start to feel your hand going numb . take a 5 min break while rising your hand over your head and make a like pumping motion, occasionally massaging each wrist and Forearm. start easy and go harder as you start feeling relief. your hand's muscles , specially as you are aging, can't keep up sending back to the heart the excess amount of blood needed for that physical demand , so at some point blood will over flow your muscle and cause that numbness and stiffness. hope this tip help.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm only 18 years old and I just started a job throwing garbage. It's very taxing on the body, especially the fingers and hands. In the morning, or even after a few hour nap, I have swollen fingers which have slight pain when I attempt to make a fist. I have thyroid problems, but it only started 2 weeks or so into this job. My thought is too much salt intake from drinking a lot of gatorade, too little water intake, and the manual labor all contribute to the swelling. Going to a doctor and trying some new things... I will report back if anything works!!

I also have the 'wake up in the morning and my hands are stiff' symptom, which seems to go away within an hour of being up and about. I have been diagnosed with a food allergy to corn and corn derivatives (the many names that corn hides in) that when I alleviate corn my arthritic symptoms go away. I won't get on a soapbox here, but if you go to ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed and do some research it may help your arthritic conditions (that I read about on this thread) as it has mine. As far as the stiffness of the hands goes (which co-relates) I am now wondering if it's the bed we bought... (one of those memory-foam mattresses) it's a really expensive bed but is old enough it's breaking down. It engulfs me I can tell, and I wonder if it's impeding my circulation, and the 'first' to go are the smaller extremities??? That was my only thought. As a healthy person (when I'm not on corn) at 57, 135 lbs, and am on no meds, for anything, run 5 and 10k races still, bicycle, etc... I'm always looking for the 'cause' to the effect, and to eliminate the 'why' it's happening, not just bandage it up! Good luck all, just my 10cents worth of an idea for y'all to ponder!

I too am having the same problem. Every morning my right hand is swollen takes about an hour to get the swelling down so I can use my hand and it's kind of painful to bend and use it. I had neck surgery about 4 years ago and I do believe it has something to do with that. I cannot go to the chiropractor because I have plates and screws in my neck. Had all kinds of tests as well and nothing there so I will keep looking for a solution. but I do believe it has to do with the neck.

It sounds like you may have an auto immune disease. Try going to a rheumatologist to be tested for different joint diseases
