Hiya, I have the same issue - it's not happened when I've stopped smoking in the past, but this time i have hit the gym too and I feel and look HUGE - the bloat seems to occur as I'm walking out of the gym after a workout. I have been using patches for 4 weeks. It doesn't seem to be one or the other - it seems to be both together - people mention dehyrdration but I drink loads of water - did you ever find a solution or a good answer to this prob?

I'm 3.5 months in now, and still suffering the severe bloat .. .. I'm definitely eating less than when i smoked .. .. much healthier diet too .. .. Its as though my digestive system shuts down during hours spent awake .. .. Everything i eat just seems to build up in my stomach .. ..

Some days are getting much better than others now tho so all i can advise is hang in there, cut your portion sizes, keep drinking plenty of water as this really seems to help (well i feel worse if i dont drink plenty) and try to exercise more, as this seems to get the waste system moving .. .. and also makes you feel great .. . .

I'm sure everything will get back to normal in time . .. .you could also try some of the supplements as posted in earlier replys .. ..

Keep up the good work folks and dont go back to being a slave to smoking - that is definately not the answer !!

(it would begood to hear back from folks who have gotten over this stage completely)

Thats the problem. Out of thousands of posts, no one has gotten over this completely! I can't wait until someone comes up with a definitive solution to this problem so that I can quit again. The bloating was unbearable for me and until someone figures this out, I can't quit.

I have not smoked since 1/4/2012 after seeing an old friend (39 yrs old) take his last breath.
I am still suffering from above mentioned bloating.
A few yrs ago I had been quit for 8 months and still had the bloating.
I have been on the Ginger Root tablets for a little over two weeks with no results. May work for some but not kickin it for me.
This is horrible because I really enjoy eating but after only a typical mcdonalds sized cheese burger, I feel like I've gotten up from a Thanksgiving meal at my parents house.
Even the day I had my colonoscopy, after not eating for 24 hrs and being completely cleaned out, I wasn't hungry in the slightest.
Been thinking about picking up smoking again just so my system can get right again and get the ability to eat again.

At the risk of repeating what others have said, I am also grateful for these posts because I am in the same boat and thought I was alone.  (At this moment I look 9 months pregnant and have gained 10 pounds, even though I've been eating only rice and exercise 2 hours a day.)  I already take a probiotic every day but will try doubling the dose.  That's the only suggestion I see in the posts so far.  Any other ideas are most welcomed -- I'm pretty desperate at this point!

HI there

Dont know if this will help but I have had all the horrible symptoms after giving up smoking forever.

I got herbs from

I have a house rebounder and the water in the stomach is released during jumping. Feels great after, but use tissue to catch drips!

In Chinese medicine says that swollen stomach means probs with liver, so am doing gall bladder cleanse as I think I have gall stones which cause acid reflux. Check out

Also had all symptoms relating to thyroid; terrible night sweats, cold all the time, weight gain, bloating, brain fog, mild depression, constipation, sugar cravings.

Have fixed it with Nascent iodine. Check out

Tobacco is poison Last time I gave up I didnt cope at all and ended up so fat I couldnt breath. This time I am handling it really well........also use

magnesium which stops bone aches.

Probably fasting is the best therapy, plus massage or acupuncture to clear the systom and get it moving. Ginger works on some people because it speeds up the system. However small a MacDonalds is it will cause bloating, dead food!

By studying our symptoms we can get what we need. Not everything works for everyone, but I am determined to beat this.

Good luck!

Google "TAPPING " and "MERIDIAN THERAPY"....................some people helped by this........I still have some bloating but the liver flush has improved everything.........Google "LIVER/GALL BLADDER FLUSH.......its easy and really makes a difference. We all have stones and maybe stopping smoking stops the normal flow so all blockages show up worse......its easy to do and improves all health problems. Good luck!

Ok, people, I quit smoking 3 months ago - that's when I read everything I was able to find about bloated stomach problem. This is what worked for me - ginger root pills, active charcoal pills, water with lemon/cajun pepper, no more sugar, bread or diary products, gym 3 times a week, eating small portions 5 times a day. I still get bloated once in a while - especially if I eat white bread or lots of cheese, but it is not soooo bad as it used to be right after quitting smoking.

I Just thought I'd let people know that 9 months on from stopping smoking my bloated tummy has gone and I'm back to normal. There is an end to it, so keep going, the symptoms of quitting are horrible at the time but they all go away in the end and you will be so glad you stopped smoking. You will feel and be more healthy and be at much lower risk from disease and death.

Thank you soooooo much for the positive message. I quit for 1 month had no other side effects besides the bloating and I was so depressed that 1 had gone up 1 dress size in that time. I kept reading about it and no one really had positive feedback about the bloat that I started smoking again. Disgusting I know, mentally I was so ready to stop smoking but had not imagined the side effect of bloating...

Next time round I will be stronger.

Can I ask how long you were smoking for, I wonder if it has to do with the time factor and how quickly the body responds.
