My best friend was diagnosed with streptoccal pharyngitis. What is this? I have never heard of it before. According to the symptoms, it sounds like she has sore throat. Can you give me more information? Thank you

It sounds like sore throat because it is a sore throat. You may have never heard of streptoccal pharyngitis but you have heard of strep throat, right?
Anyway, it is a bacterial infection of the throat and tonsils. I am sure you are aware of the symptoms, but I will write them down just in case: sore throat, fever, swollen, tender lymph nodes in the neck, pain on swallowing and fatigue. In order to avoid getting it, you may have to avoid your friend for a few days or only 24 hours if she started an antibiotic therapy. If she hasn’t started any treatment, she may be contagious for a few weeks. If she is taking the drugs or receiving them (by injection), she should be symptoms free in three days time.
