If your goal is to be drug free, you will need to stay on the suboxone for more than four days. I have been on suboxone for just over a year now. It has seemed to take at least this long for me to 'mentally' do without my drug of choice; which was percocet. Physically, your body should readjust in a month or so. That is the EASY part.

I am on the other side of this and have been watchign my husband try ot kick his Oxy habit for 3 years. Let say, first Oxy is horrible to withdraw from but Suboxone is way, way worse. In hindsight, I wish we had never listened to the doctor and tried using subs to kick the oxyhabit. Instead of a few days of withdrawls he is now facing weeks from the Subs. this time we went through a different doctor and he prescribed Ativan (Lorazepam) on a tapering schedule over 5 days, with Clonodine (helps with anxiety), Advil for pain, and benedryl to sleep. We are in day 2 of withdrawl/detox and it is way ahrder than before. This time he is seeing a counselor and it is out-patient. If you go inpatient, the only difference was going to be Haldol in the IV with the Atavin (hell no). My advice, as a non-doctor, is avoid Subs if you can. Oxy should be tapered off slowly and lots of counseling (NA meetings whatever). Stock up on Muscle milk for nutrition and some protein. Also, try to get Quinine for the leg cramps kicking. If you can't make sure you have lots of hot water for really long showers and sweats. There is nothing easy about this process and I am not even the one detoxing. God bless and good luck! Hope this was helpful.

Are there any true drug addicts on here? Not supposed to break oxycontins? Really? You take the covering off, crush and snort it. Some people shoot it.
I have been on suboxone for almost 4 years now. After reading some of these posts I'm scared to death of the withdrawals I am going to experience. But it's finally time to kick it.
You can get high on suboxone. Or at least I could from time to time.
I am done. I will use a lot of these posts to figure out what is best for me. I was relieved to find these threads. They have helped a lot. Ty to all who have shared your stories. Hopefully they will help.

So I've had terrible experiences with sub. My bf and I have been on h for years and tried using sub. To quit. Even when I waited 24 hrs from my last shot of h the sub made me feel a hundred times worse! Super hyper sensitive to touch, smell, sounds... uncontrollable twitching and no sleep at all...can anyone relate?? Why did this happen? I was in full w/d when I took it so wtf??

Don't get on suboxone unless absolutely necessary!!! ( unless you don't mind being addicted to subs for life or it will keep you out of jail/trouble) I was on oxys for 5 years due to a pain condition and switched to 6mg of subs for two years. When i desperately wanted to stop my dr would not give me resources or suggestions, he would just end our 4 minute $200 appointment and say "see you next month." That put in a rage of fury and I was determined to stop. Went to a detox center for ten days but was still on 1 milligram when I left. Then like clockwork, 37-40 hours later (half life of up to 48 hrs) the agony began. I'm on day 5 after my jump from one mg and the body pains are so intense I can't lay down or stand. I feel so weak... Just wish i knew when the body pains will start to decrease. From what I've been reading seems like I've got awhile to go before the strong pain lessens. Any thoughts or advice out there?? I've been taking Advil 800 mg every 6/8 hours, 1 mg Valium for anxiety and 150 mg trazadone for sleep. Please ppl, if you are addicted to opiates, detox from that..please don't get addicted to subs. It hasn't been studied for long term use and is hell to get off of. The detox from opiates is hard but shorter. And shorter is always better. Thanks for listening L

This is a very good scenario as I presume you don't have a medical background, you used common sense to an uncommon degree and that is 'genius'. The length of time you were dependent was key in your ability to do what you did. Some folks are using for decades and that makes it harder of course, nevertheless you were sufficiently toxic in 6 months to endure significant misery (presume 5 to 7 days). The medical approach at home might be using 0.2 of "clonidine" 2 x a day off-label (a blood pressure medicine) for the discomfort (you'd need prescription) and perhaps 20 mg a day of Valium (5mg 4 times a day). These two meds would put you to sleep, and if not some people could handle the Nyquil too, but you'd have to check with your MD. The body should get rid of the opioids within a week, and it makes me laugh when they show old movies where addicts say "lock me in the room and don't let me out no matter what I say" like the wolf man. They stay in the room for two days and emerge fresh as a daisy. That is a real fantasy that we all wish was true!
