Hi all, I'm a type 1 and have been so for 10 years now. All of a sudden I'm experiencing high blood glucose levels – help! I've been doing a lot of traveling lately and I find I can't eat at regular times all the time and I also end up picking up something quickly to stave off starvation. Some how I need to figure out how to get back to my regular eating habits so I can manage my diabetes properly. My new job has me on the road a lot between various cities. Does anyone have any advice on this? Thanks.

Hello, I'm a type 1 as well and a few years back I had the same problem. I had my diet down pat and ate regularly with pretty much the same foods and then all of a sudden I'm in the middle of no where looking for a place to eat or at least get something from a convenience store. That definitely wasn't working at all. It took me a while to figure it out but once I was there it was okay. I found that I needed to carry a cooler in my car and have it stocked for the day. When I started traveling it was in the summer so I needed to keep ice in the chest for the day. Sometimes I bough salads already made and other times I made my own for variety. I kept plenty of munchies like veggie and fruit platters that have yogurt dips in them. Whole wheat crackers are good to keep in stock as well. When I could, I would stop at a grocery store and pick up a lemon pepper chicken that was cold and munch on that throughout the day. I was mostly on interstate when I needed to eat something so I found where the rest stops were located and went to them regularly. I found that very relaxing and in fact it made my driving much more pleasant. If your meds need to be cool, the cooler is a perfect for them. Just make sure there packed well so stuff doesn't get wet.
