Hi: Are either of them diabetic? Swelling, darker skin, and skin disorders can be a total sign of diabetes. Also heart failure!

So if you know of either having one of these illness's they need to get checked out ASAP. If they are in heart failure, they need to find out
if their hearts can take them raising their legs above their hearts. If they have diabetes, then special compression socks and seeing a good podiatrist will really help them. ANYONE with diabetes, should always be followed by a podiatrist.

Hope this helps you and good luck and health to both of them.
