Hi. I had the same problem years ago (atleast 6-7 years ago). I am 20 years old now.
My first swollen lymph was on the left side of my neck and it disappeared on its own, without any medicines.
But then 4 years ago, or so, another one appeared, this time on the right side of my neck. It still hasn't gone to this day.
I visited a doctor when it first occurred (4 years ago), and he gave me antibiotics for it. I can't say there was much difference after taking the antibiotics.
The node right now, although not very visibly swollen, is nonetheless still swollen a bit.
I feel no pain in my neck, no pain whatsoever in my ears or anyother kind of pain or discomfort due to it.
The only time it becomes slightly visible is, when I eat tangy ot hot food.

So my main worry right now is, why hasn't it gone for so many years? What should I do about it. I am planning to visit my doctor again, very soon to get it checked, but I would still appreciate some information about this.

Thanks!

I have had this swollen lump in my neck for almost 4 years. I saw a surgeon who said it was a lump on my thyroid and didn't say anything more about it, I went to my normal doctor and he said that it was a swollen gland and I should see my ent. I saw my ent dr and he said that it was a muscle, just stretch it out he said and sent me on my way. I have tried stretching my neck and going to chiropractors but no luck. About 2 years ago i started to get ear aches, my dr. doesn't seem to think it is any big deal and completely ignores me every time i try to bring it up. I have also seen his PA and she does the same thing. My heart palpitations started to get worse a couple of months ago and I was put on a heart monitor where it showed irregular heart beats just like when someone is having a heart attack. I went to the ER because the nurse strongly recommended it. I was told that I was hyperventatling, but my breathing couldn't keep up with my heart because it was beating so irregular. I was put on a sedative to help this. My throat has also started to hurt really bad way up in the back where you would think it connects to ear. I can hardly swallow at time. I am sure they think I am a hypochondriac but i am just sick and tired of feeling like c**p everyday. any ideas anyone?!?!

i noticed 2 months ago that i had a swollen lymph node in the left side of my neck. after 10 days of antibiotics it was pretty much gone. recently it has been getting bigger and smaller. the first time it got bigger again, the left side of my face became swollen. it is getting better but is still slightly swollen. then it got smaller. when it got bigger again, my left ear started itching. when it got smaller again, the itching started to go away. with the patterns of the lymph node growing and shrinking, my ear has been getting more and less itchy. is this anything to be concerned about?

This message is to justacollegekid. Did you ever find out what was wrong? I have similar symptoms and can't figure out what's wrong with me!

Guys I had the same thing, I went through the errogance of doctors that wants you to leave them alone. YES IT IS YOUR LIFE ON THE LINE. Many of you did the most you could but there is one more thing. Thyroid nodules. you need to get an ultrasound for your thyroid to see if there is anything there. 50% of the general population over 50 have at least one nodule in the thyroid. all of these symptoms could be thyroid related

good luck

I'm writing after my own experience with a swollen lymph node. Almost a year ago, I started experiencing a weird pressure sensation in my lower right jaw. It wasn't painful, but it was annoying and sensitive. I was very bothered by it since I could feel it all the time and I also thought that I had an infection in my mouth or that I would need a root canal or something. I saw my dentist a number of times, but he was very dismissive of the problem. I found a new dentist who took me more seriously. He tested all my lower teeth with air pressure, cold temperatures, bite tests, and x-rays. He had me try a night guard and muscle relaxants. None of this helped. I saw my GP a couple of times and she mentioned I had a swollen lymph node on the right side below my jaw, but she thought it was a sinus infection and put me on antibiotics two different times. Of course, that did not help. Finally I saw her again and got a referral to an ENT. Seeing the ENT is the best thing that could have happened. Within a minute of physically examining my neck and jaw, he said I definitely had a swollen lymph node and he suggested a surgical biopsy. (He gave me the option of a fine needle biopsy but said the results would not be definitive. And since I wanted relief from this pressure, in addition to biopsy results, I opted for the surgical biopsy.) That is the best decision I could have made. My ENT removed two very swollen lymph nodes. The biopsy came back benign which was a relief, and he said sometimes lymph nodes swell up in response to an infection but don't shrink back down (like they should) once the infection is cleared. At any rate, I had to be very persistent in getting treatment but I'm so glad I did. If you have a swollen lymph node and you are concerned or having discomfort, go to your doctor. If your doctor is dismissive, find another doctor. It's a pain, it takes time, and it costs money, but it's your health and your peace of mind and, in my opinion, very, very worth it. Good luck to everyone.

i have also been feeling pain and cold sensations in my neck on the right side right under my jaw. when i press on it it hurts and stirrs it up so that it gives me cold sensations. its almost so hard to explain and weird that it really worrys me. I am 18 about to be 19 in a month and i recently quit smoking ciggarettes and pot. i was smoking for about 3 years. I sometimes feel the pain when i swallow to, but i have no difficulty eating, or any weight loss. Im also on my period which is all messed up due to the fact that i recently switched forms of birth control. I cant understand why i have this pain in my neck. its been going on for about 5-6 days now. I also feel pressure under my ear too, but when i went to an emergency doctor they told me i was fine that i should just keep an eye on it. But why should i have to live with the worry? I really want to have an xray done and blood tests to see if there is something wrong with me. I am not sure if the lymph node that hurts is swollen though, because theres no significant sign of it being swollen, just very sore and gives off weird pains all day.

Hi,

I'm a 29 yr old Female, I have had a left supraclavicular lymph node that has been swollen for about 4 months. I lost 10 lbs in 1 ½ months, fatigue, dizziness, feeling of fullness to the neck, no signs and symptoms of cold/flu/allergies, no fever or night sweats x2 nights last week. CT came back negative and shows the lymph node is 6mm, all lab work negative, HIV+ Mono Test negative, thyroid is good and WBC excellent.

To summarize it all I’m healthy and I’m seeing by PCP once a month.

In the beginning of all this my doctor was very concerned and thought it might be Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, she said she did every test under the sun but come to find out she didn’t do a test for my thyroid, no pregnancy test, or urinalysis. My OB ended up doing those which came back normal. I started feeling better after about 2 1/2 wks after all the testing started and out of nowhere 5 days ago I started feeling tired, taking 4hr naps (which is not like me to do so), dizzy, lack of appetite, weight loss and you could not only feel the swollen lymph node but you could now see swelling to the area, I have a feeling of fullness and pulling that goes up to my ear, no pain, numbness and tingling to my mouth and R side of face and I found another swollen lymph node above the supraclavicular one I have had for 4 months, this new one doesn’t hurt either.

I went to see my doctor for my month follow up and told her what I was feeling and the first thing she said was " Could this all just be in your head?", 2 wks ago I discussed with her not knowing how to recognize my symptoms as "in my head" or "real" I asked her how do I know the difference between my fear, it being in my head or real sings and symptoms and she said it was normal to feel this was, she told me to report objective things like night sweats, swelling, or weight loss. So I went of felt better and noticed "these objective symptoms" and know she tells me its “all in my head". She also thinks it might be due to the Adderall I’ve been taking for the past 3 yrs, hmmm I don’t know how this could be but I guess if someone out there knows of Adderall causing all these signs and symptoms after 3 yrs of taking them please let me know, this will definitely be NEWS to me. She is also thinking that I " feel" all these symptoms due to me being left handed and carrying my purse on the left side, so she has now given me " exercises" to help me carry the same purse have been for the past 10 yrs who is now causing me dizziness, weight loss, loss of appetite, swollen lymph node, swelling to neck, and tingling to face and mouth.

From the time I felt the swollen lymph node I waited 3 months to see a doctor, when I saw her she didn’t like the fact I waited so long and in a way scolded me and told me I should always seek care when something is not right. She was really concerned, did a CT and lab work, know after it has all been said and done I’m the healthiest person alive and my "head", Adderall or purse is causing all these symptoms!

I'm left to think I’m crazy and really wonder why I even went to seek care when all they did was worry me, spend A LOT of money, time and all this time I just needed a either a new purse or to carry it on the other side, a psychologist and get of Adderall.

I’m at a loss for words, I’m sitting here writing this and feel like c**p, alone and don’t know whether to believe myself or them. All I know is that the way I feel is not normal, the signs and symptoms I’m presenting are not normal either and I’m know being brushed off and told there is nothing wrong with me.

To finish this up, I asked her to refer me to a surgeon because I want to have this removed, at least for my own piece of mind. A month ago we had talked about it and she was fine with me seeing a surgeon today she was reluctant and reminded me how a 6mm node does is not alarming, cannot be aspirated or biopsied and that the surgeon probably won’t touch it. She still ended up referring me but I know whatever she sends to him will red flag me and he will not look at my case objectively, it will be with bias. Unfortunately I work for a hospital that provides their own insurance and you can only see their doctors, they all communicate with in each other, you would think this was a good thing but it’s not, they side with each other, their bias and treat you accordingly to their bias. I’ve seen this happen so many times….

If anyone can offer suggestions, advice or similar scenarios and what they did I would greatly appreciate it. Anything helps!

Thanks!

i I'm a 21 year old college student who's always been healthy. I'm very active but may have got the flu last year. I have a very strange case that has confused my PCP so I'm relying on my health services at school for help. Back in Dec. of 2009 I was having really bad abdomen pain. My doctor told me to go straight to the ER where they took my blood and tested every organ imaginable, did an ultra sound on my gall bladder and kidneys, and took a urine sample. Everything came back fine and I was released. Two days later when I went back to my PCP my throat began swelling up and I was having trouble breathing for 2 days. I had a throat culture taken which also came back negative. Two days later I developed severe diarrhea which lasted a week. Again I went to the doctor (3 times now) and was told no useful information, I had a mono test run which came back negative. I then developed dry mouth every night since I couldn't breathe my sinus' were extremely congested. This was back in January of 2010. I then realized the entire right side of my neck was covered with swollen lymph nodes that were alarmingly big. You could visibly see the lumps on my neck. Went back to the doctor who said to come back if they didn't go down. Fed up with my doctor I went to health services in Feb. I was given a z-pack to help my congestion, and the swelling of my lymph nodes went down a little, they also ran a mono test to check if I had it now or have had it in the past. This came back negative. I returned to health services last week because they are still enlarged. They took more blood my white blood cell count has been low both times they've taken it, but my liver, thyroid, blood sugar and whatever else they tested was fine. I have good blood pressure also. Now they're sending me to get my chest x-rayed and I'm finally seeing an ENT doctor Monday. I'm really getting scared as to what's going on. i have tonsil problem i don't feel well around cold wind or any cold things no sweat, fever or pain before 3 years i use to eat yellow banana in great quantity(12 at a time) and tamarind.I see yellow Phlegm coated inside throat,it goes after sniffing down the throat.
