i did ask my OB and they told me that tanning after the first trimester is completely safe as long as you get out when you feel hot.

I am pregnant and I go tanning pretty frequently. From what I have read as long as you are well hydrated and do not overheat you and your baby will be fine. I like to go in the mornings when its still cool in the tanning salon and if I ever feel I am getting too hot (I am a nervous nelly) I just simply get out. Tanning outside is fine as well as long as you do not overheat, the tanning bed is the same thing. You could also ask for an extra fan in your room, which is something I have done before as well.

You're obviously not that much of a "nervous nelly" or you wouldn't risk putting your unborn baby in harm's way!

WOW! i work at a tanning salon and plenty of women have came in pregnant and have tanned... EVERYDAY! The tanning bed is just as bad as the sun so if your pregnant i guess you shouldn't go outside? A couple of these women had their babies and brought them up to the salon to introduce everyone to them and they were perfectly fine not a thing wrong with them. Tanning while pregnant will not effect you or your baby just like they all said don't get overheated I've had doctors tell me this because I asked out of curiousity. (sp) But everybody's body is different so the tanning bed and/or SUN may or may not effect you or your baby. Drink plenty of water which you need to do anyway if your pregnant and don't get overheated which is easy to prevent. The beds have an off button for your information. Find out the facts before you make people feel bad for tanning while pregnant.

I lived in a small town up until a few years ago. Years back (maybe about 20) We had 2 tanning salons in our town. A woman was getting married, and decided she needed to tan FAST apparently. She went to two different tanning salons in one day, and ended up dying. I don't know exactly WHY she died from it...but there IS a reason even the most experienced tanners are given a time limit.

the same thing happened here only the girl went to 3 tanning salons in one day consecutavely and yes IT COOKED HER ORGANS AND GAVE HER SUN POISONING/3RD DEGREE BURNS
and to the question: think about y you want to tan...do u really NEED TO? can it wait until after you have ur baby? and shouldn't u be looking up info from reputable sites instead of asking others? no offense most ppl do know a lot and are very helpfull but still. plus ur pregnant, your going to gain weight and other things no one care's what u look like while ur pregnant but you. its the truth. i'd say don't tan. and i work in a tanning salon

THIS IS WHY IN MOST STATES YOUR ONLY ALLOWED TO TAN ONCE EVERY 24 HOURS FROM THE TIME THAT YOU CAME IN. PEOPLE ARE STUPIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

I don't know who your Dr is but you should not be giving your baby fever meds at such low temperatures. It's medicating for a nonexistent problem! 101 is the general rule.

First of all you should never EVER ask a bunch of random people on the internet or even tanning salon owners if it's okay to tan while pregnant...

Second I am not going to give you advice and say if it's okay or if it's not okay because for one I am NOT a doctor, 2. I have not studied anything in college about this or ever been to a testing facility to find out so how would I know? And that goes for everyone who replied to this post too....

& Third, if you have ever have ANY health questions whether its about tanning while pregnant or something else ALWAYS call your doctor and ask them!! They know what they are doing and they know what to do and not to do when it comes to health and being pregnant..

Tanning Salon owners could just be letting pregnant women tan because they dont know enough to say whether its safe or if its not so they use what they already know about the tanning beds and tell you its safe and they could be letting them just for the money.

For all you know all these people posting comments saying its safe to tan while pregnant could just be people that have seen a pregnant woman tan before and then automatically get the thought in their heads that its okay or its not okay.

it would be different if you went tanning and had no idea that you were pregnant and found out later on that you was but after you find out your pregnant you should always stop tanning and go to a Doctor to ask them about it and for all your pregnancy and health questions.

Anyways, it's take like 5 minutes just to call your doctor or any doctor and just ask that question and get an answer from a professional. So ask a doctor, they know what can really happen.

& p.s don't ever trust anyone over the internet about any serious questions EVER!!!!!

I am not sure if an airbrush would be healthy for a baby either... Airbrushing has chemicals in its products. I am not a professional, but if inhaled accidentally perhaps this could harm the baby? I used to airbrush twice a week, I have inhaled the chemicals accidentally before.

Lying in a tanning bed can also raise your body temperature to a level that may be hazardous to your baby, particularly during your first trimester. Having an elevated body temperature during pregnancy — that is, above 102 degrees F, which can happen in a tanning bed, hot tub, or sauna — has been associated with spinal malformations in developing babies. i found this on the link below they know what there talking about you may want to read that.

Sounds to me like you needed to eat. Try having small meals every few hours (2/3) instead of 3 large meals a day. Your blood sugar was probably low and getting warm made you really feel it. I've had the same rumbling and almost blacked out while grocery shopping...I had skipped lunch to run errands and the shopping made me hot, that combined w/ having no food in my belly totally over exerted me. (I was pregnant)

Tanning while pregnant or not is dangerous. You should love your skin and the color of it. Stop letting the media tell you what beauty is. There is no reason any person should have to put themselves in a situation of hurting theirself in the long run by getting skin cancer or premature aged skin. I don't want either or anything else. I want to look as young as I can for as long as I can, and baking my skin under lights to get a tan that is only damage to my skin is not worth it. Do your research on tanning. There are no positives for your skin. If you want to have a glow, get a spray tan. They work just as well.

New studies have shown that spray tan is unsafe. Like other posters have said, tanning beds mimic the natural sun's rays. I would avoid spray tans, and go with natural sun or tanning beds.
