I am curious about what the rest of you guys/gals do.
I do a lot of intervals on the mill because it is easy to maintain a pace that I set up for the speed .
I usually do a set speed for 3-5 minutes and rest for a minute. I also pick a distance of 4-5 miles with 1/2 mile warm up and cool down.
I have also done track repeats with an 800 meter interval with 400 meter rest after a mile warm up. I try to keep the time within a certain time period.
I am really looking for other ideas to kind of mix it up a little.

I've got an empty office building at work that I run around that's an even 1/3 mi.
I warm up and then do 6 x 1/3 mi. repeats with 1/3 mi. recovery.
That's when I actually get up the desire to do speed work. Lately I've been a little slack.

I have started doing fartleks again. They have just been between trees or telephone polls for the faster pace.
Starting later this week or next week, I'll be doing 800 repeats with 400 recovery on the track once or twice a week. In the next few weeks, I may increase it to 1600 repeats with either a 400 recovery or an 800 recovery. All of this in preparation to break my marathon PR in the fall.
