Same issue here. Under lower left rib i have moderate pain and numbness on skin above. Tingling/burning sensations. I have had every test known to man and they are all negative. Seems to be worse after a meal or after sitting in a comfined space for a while (driving). Pressure on a nerve perhaps?
Yes I carry a bit of extra weight on my stomach area.

possible explanation could be shingles. I had a similar issue with numbness only on the left side of my stomach for a week, then a rash developed, and my doctor diagnosed shingles. If the numbness or tingling, like when a body part falls asleep, occurs only on one side of the body, I would pay attention to see if a rash develops cause it could be shingles. Usually the numbness and/or rash follow the path of the nerve that is affected which will only be on one side of the body.

I too have numbness in my stomach area and lots of severe pain. My doctor couldn't tell me what is causing the numbness.

Has anyone been told what the cause is??

Did you go to your GP or did you go to a gastroenterologist? If you haven't been to a specialist, please go see one! I think that will help you. Let me know.

Same problem with me..... I get this when I eat poorly, or am eating very well trying to cleanse out toxins.... It effects circulation and nerves for sure.... Im fairly confident at this point, its our bodies being poisoned by all of the terrible c**p in the environment. Like what they use to preserve food, chemically spray food, and the steroids and such injected in our food, polutants in the air and water, exc... Im moving the hell out of the city, out too the mountains, where I can grow my own stuff that I can trust...... try a cleansing fast like Master Cleanse or something and see if it helps!!

I've been having this same problem too.
I woke up one day, and I thought my stomach had fallen asleep.
It didn't.
It was numb.
A little numbing on the left side.
>.<
I'm worried as to what it might be...

It has been over 4 months now that I have been suffering with what sounds like exactly the same symptoms.
I believe the cause was when I had a severe reaction to some seafood when I was on holiday.
I was violently sick to the point of becoming unconcoius, when I came around I found myself hanging out of the side of my car door.

Since that time, I have developed a numbness under my lower left rib which has gradually spread down until, when sitting, it almost reaches my hip. I am not overweight and relatively fit. I did find that fairly hard excercise like running and sit ups seems to ease it, but if I take a days break from exercise its back and usually worse than before.
I have terrible trouble sleeping, and sitting down for long periods and long journeys in cars can be a nightmare.
The weird thing is; it does not hurt its just increadibly uncomfortable. And it is getting worse....
Someone must have an idea what this problem is?

Well someone did know :) .

I wrote the above quote and following my desperation I visited my nearest Hospital, (I am a visitor in Thailand).

I was incredibly impressed because the Doctor knew exactly what the problem was and after I explained the symptoms and a bit of info about my past. I was immediatly started me on a course of tablets for severe gastric problems.( Probably caused by years of heavy drinking and smoking, which incedentally I gave up 5 years ago). It can come back and get you!

She immediatly put me on a course of Omeprazole, (Which is an anti Ulcer drug). Pancreatin, (which contains the enzymes from a pigs pancreas. And Domperidone, (to take initially and only when the symptoms are bad).

I have a follow up appointment in a couple of weeks, and she informed me that it may take a couple of months before the underlying cause is dealt with.

What I can say is that she was confident about her diagnosis. So it looks like I may be around for a few years yet.

I have to admit, I was worried. And because I was so worried I was scared of what the Doctor might tell me.

But I bit the bullet, and now I feel a lot better.

The symptoms will not go away without treatment, so go and see your Doctor.

I have had this problem for a couple years and I guess I have learned to live with it. There is a numbness and tingling on the skin surface and at times drives me crazy with itching. I looked up on google and found what the causes could be and decided that many people have this. I did ask my doctor when I had my yearly checkup and she didn't seem to excited about it, so I'm not going to worry. I don't have any pain just annoyance that unless I scratch too much I don't think about it. I hope this helps some with the worrying.

I have a similar pain, but the location varies although always on left side. Sometimes it is a tenderness or numbness that radiates from the middle of my left side down almost the left of my belly button. Sometimes it is a burning sensation on my left side above my left hip. Sometimes it is aching pain on both sides of my midspine, primarily on the left side of my spine, that is alleviated by heat. Regardless of where I feel the sensation, it always seems to be just below the surface of the skin, and I never feel the pain or numbness going through me.

I had a similar pain minus the back pain 6 or 7 years ago. The doctor thought it might be a broken rib, but didn't do an x-ray. The feeling disappeared a few weeks later.

I mentioned my concerns to a relative who is an internal medicine doctor. Without doing anything other than hearing my symptoms and pressing on my left side and upper back, he said it is a probably a muscle pull. He said abdominal muscle pulls can take forever to heal. He also said that left side pain is not much to worry about as much as right side abdominal pain.

My guess is that I have either a pulled muscle or a disc problem in my mid back that manifests as the sensations that I have described.

Your fingers going to sleep is bc the nerve going threw your arm, threw the elbow is being pinched. More then likely bc of what position your arm is in while your sleeping. I have this problem as well, my nerve is being pinched in my shoulder blade as well as my elbow the dr. Said it would probebly go away if I straightened my arm out while I sleep. Hope this helps

I have the same numbness and the doctor told me it was referred from my lower back. I've had this numbness off and on for the last 5 or 6 years. I also have lower back problems, so you may want to have your back checked.
