i have had this thick, clear saliva for sometime now when i exercise. It starts and its almost like i have something in my throat which causes me to try to clear my throat. This never works and sometimes i can spit but when i do, it doesnt want to let go. I continue coughing until i make myself sick. I then have to stop the exercise and go home. I have had 2 lung tests, several asthma meds, singular for allergies..etc. very frustrating and embarrassing. Approx 4 yrs ago i did get diagnosed for acid reflux and have to take meds each morning. I have recently changed my diet a little, but it still doesnt seem to help. Its funny because a beer actually helps to release it from my throat when im done exercise. An ale..just plain and not any fancy honey or dark thick one. Like other people, whole milk is really bad for me as it sticks back in my throat. anyway...im just frustrated....any ideas??? Ive read the posts on GERD but ?? open to suggestions?

I had the same problem and explained it to my doctor. What happens is, your mucus' consistency depends on how much water is available in your body. I once couldn't sleep for 2 nights because I spent the whole night trying to swallow the c**p in my throat... I drank like 3 tall glasses of water and it would only help a little. Never enough for me to sleep. So my doctor said I need to drink A LOT more water. It sucks because I find myself feeling ridiculous most of the time with all the effing water I drink, but I don't have any of those problems anymore, thankfully I can sleep.

So yeah. You need to drink 2 liters (yes, I know, it's A LOT) of water PER DAY.

I freaked out but you get used to it in the end.... It's the bathroom trips that bother me, but anywayz. You do what you gotta do.
