Polyorchidism is the incidence of more than two testes. It is a very rare congenital disorder, with under 100 cases reported in medical literature. The most common form is triorchidism, or tritestes, where three testes are present. The condition is usually asymptomatic, but can increase the risk of testicular cancer. A man who has polyorchidism is known as a polyorchid.

I've known since a very young age that I had 3 testicles. I'm close to 40 now and have never had any medical problems as a result. I've been checked by doctors twice, both were ultrasounds and both doctors found my condition by accident during a routine physical. It's not very common, that's for sure. All 3 testicles are in one scrotum and all 3 are attached and produce sperm. Not all are the same size. The one on the right is normal size and the 2 on the left are each less than half the size of the one on the right. Again, no medical issues my whole life. Lots of interesting stories, but nothing to cause me pain or illness. If you have this condition, it's always best to get it checked out. But don't worry yourself over it.

I recently noticed I have Type III triorchidism. Its kind of embarrassing so I was wondering if its something I really need to have checked out or not. I have seen that there are associated risks, but sterility is the most bothersome of all I have read about. Does anyone actually know the rate of sterility in poyorchidism?

It is normal and safe, just especially rare. My good friend has three. He is more rare than others, since all three of his balls are all the same size, medium to large but still normal sized. He has had them since birth and he is now in his mid forties and just fine. In fact he is quite popular since he is gay, other gay men find it fascinating and want to play with him/them. His two brothers and dad are all straight and have two balls both normal size.

I'm another of the few men who have 3 testicles. Had them since birth, no problems other than normal things that happen to guys (falling on railings, getting kicked between the legs, etc.). Nobody else knew about it except my doctor (even as a kid) and I didn't really share that info while I was in H.S., for obvious reasons. I guess cause I'm a big guy mine are larger than average (all three of them). My doctor does not see any wrong, all three work correctly and my sperm count is high. I have absolutely no trouble getting an erection or ejaculating during sex. I go in for check-ups regularly and have been lucky not to have run into any problems. In my early 20's a doctor I was seeing wanted to do exploratory surgery and remove the smallest one which is still larger than average. Let's just say I had colorful metaphors for him and it didn't happen. I'm 45 now, still no health issues, and going strong. No bragging here, but when I'm feeling good, I can go for hours. It is Wonderful!

This is not something to be ashamed of. This is the 21st Century, let's get out of the dark and take care of ourselves. Guys, I don't care how old you are, if you think something is wrong, GET TO A DOCTOR. A good friend of mine was born with two, always had two and in his early twenties developed a third. He wouldn't go to get it checked. Even when it became painful to the touch, he didn't go. It was cancer. He lost the larger of his testicles, pieces from his lungs, kidneys, ribs, and other places I don't remember. The chemo alone nearly killed him. The cancer spread throughout his body and was slowing killing him. He regrets not having gone to the doctor sooner, because the truth is, had he, he'd still have a pair down there. He is married and has successfully had children.

Just like women who discover something different or wrong with their breasts, Men who discover something wrong or different with their penis, testicles or scrotum, need to go to their doctor and get checked out. I know it can be humiliating and embarrassing. I've had male and female doctors and technicians. When they tell me to drop my pants and shorts, down they go. I'm not an exhibitionist by anybody's standard. but I don't want to loose what I've got. Still not convinced to go the doctor, then ask yourself this question, "If I don't go, and it is something bad that spreads, how good about myself will I feel when I lose my testicles and/or my penis when it could have been avoided?" Not Real Good I would think. There are no guys on the planet that want those parts separated from their bodies. I don't want mine cut off. Get over yourselves, and get checked. The manhood you save WILL be your own. Please.

Good good advice from you! I don't know why people think it's going to go away--if you've got a lump, get it checked. Most of the time it turns out to be nothing but LET A DOCTOR TELL YOU that! Thanks for your post.
