I get these sudden feelings of constriction in my throat about 3 times a day which makes me feel like my heart is stopping briefy (hard to explain...its like a sudden swift tightness of the throat and pain in my chest that lasts like a second). I have a lump near my adams apple on the left hand side of my throat, like a swollen gland. Also my left eye hurts a tad.

Your body is probably fighting some sort of infection. Lump on the right hand side of your adams apple is probably swollen lymph node. This is usually a sign of an infection and even if the lymph node is tender and painful you will have to wait to heal on its own. Feeling in your throat could also be a sign of the same infection.
The second thing that comes to my mind is allergic reaction to something but I believe that the symptoms would be much more expressed. Anyhow you should visit your doctor to determine what is bothering you and what you can do to prevent it from happening in the future. Keep us posted and good luck.
