37, and I am in the same boat. Feels like a lump in my chest, like I swallowed a really big bite of something and didn't chew it enough and it is 1/2 way down.

Can't seem to burp, although it feel like one is imminent, and when I do, it feels awesome for about 10-30 seconds, then the symptoms come right back.

Walking or even jogging seems to help me burp and I think it takes my mind off it as well.

This has happened periodically over a few years, maybe once every few months, but I just started taking Vyvanse, and now it happens pretty much every evening. This makes me think the stress thing is at least a significant factor.

Also, at times I salivate a lot while this is happening.

I've never had heartburn I don't think, so I don't think it is acid reflux.

Anyway, this blows.

Let me just say that I am so glad that I am not the only one. I have been suffering with this for about a year and have been baffled as what to do...Has anyone tried Bean-o or any anti gas meds to see if that makes it subside?

I've had these symptoms now for about 5 years. I was diagnosed with GERD, and after having an endoscopy started taking purple pill etc. Eventually, my bone complex was starting to suffer because they were also blocking calcium intake in my body. I JUST recently found two natural ways to stop the heartburn:

Biotics Research Corporation
Hydro-Zyme (90 tablets)
Beta-TCP (90 tablets)

They are both dietary supplements. I take two every time I eat, and the heartburn is gone... continue them until you don't feel reflux (about a week). Trust me, they will work. They are natural, and do not shut down the acid pumps, they just control it. We need the acid to digest food and provide nutrients to our body. I only just discovered this, so there has been more damage done over the years. No I deal with the possibility of hiatal hernia, and have difficulty breathing. I take muscle relaxing meds (adavan) and it's the only thing that seems to help. I feel worst in the morning, and have pain in my chest and into my back.

don't know what brings this on, but has been going on for about 3 weeks following a long drive up to virginia.

knot in throat... difficulty burping at all.
( throat is not soar at all, no acid problems etc )

because of the trapped air; it can be painful to swallow anything. my face
is in pain in the evening after about 3 hours into sleep.
( probably from air trying to escape through the tissue as has
been told to me by a physician )

if the air escapes completely as it does throughout the day cause up and
moving around etc, then i'm fine and can eat, drink what have you, but
once it's time for bed; the air starts to collect severely. i've been waking
up every night trying to burp... desperately trying to get the trapped air
out. what the hell is going on?? i'm starting to lose sleep and need a solution.

first impression to doctors ( without even thinking ) i hear the usual
"...probably alittle acid reflux" this is a standard, generic answer followed
by a quick prescription of the usual 2 types of drugs for relief. if you have
this problem you know damn well those don't work for this condition.

i never thought trapped air can be such a problem; furthermore i have no
idea why i'm unable to rid my self of this problem. is my throat swelling
for some allergy i don't know about or what. it's really a pain in the neck
"literally"

please help!! anybody have a solution for this i would love to hear it!!!

I've had the same symptoms as everyone else who has posted. This has been going on for 2 1/2 years for me. I found out 1 1/2 years ago that I am allergic to poultry (chicken, eggs). Since then I have studied food labels closely and even staying away from labels saying "made in factory that produces eggs". My problems aren't as bad anymore, in fact I'm allot better since i found out what i am allergic too. Unfortunately I still have some problems, usually when I eat foods that are ... "sticky" for lack of a better word, like high meat and seasoning soups, hamburgers, tuna sandwiches, cereal w/ milk. I have found that the more i stick to grilled, less greasy, less sticky foods I have less problems with my throat. I have also found running on my new treadmill helps make the tightness go away for a long while, maybe it loosens it up. I don't know whats wrong with us, but i hope this info helps. maybe in a few years we'll find a linked sickness due to drinking milk injected with antibiotics, growth hormones, and pesticides lol. I'm jk <3 o.O

I'm 28 and experienced similar symptoms of feeling like things are 'stuck' in my throat on and off for 2 years. After a chest xray, ekg, two upper endoscopies, a Ph (bravo) test, and extended periods on prilosec my doctor has informed that she thinks my esophagus is "hypersesative." She put put me on 10 mg of Elavil and it has given me some relief.

All of the symptoms people have listed are symptoms of Esophagial disorders. Some may be dysphagia and others can be consider globus pharyngeus (lump in throat). Some Doctor's are more update on the treatment for these conditions so if you don't feel you have the correct answer switch doctors! My father suffered from dysphagia for four years and his doctor told him it was all in his head. He changed doctors due to medical plans and his problems were solved by a new doctor within weeks.

i'm 35yr old male. have had the same symptoms for over a year now. sensation like something is stuck in my throat, what I would call an ache in my chest. they tried treating it with a few antidepressants that aslo help relax the smooth muscle, they helped slightly but the side effects were horrible. side effect mimicked prostate problems, problems urinating and sexual dis function.
Like everyone else doctors blame stress, acid reflux, blah, blah, blah,.....if I didn't feel like I had something stuck in my throat I wouldn't be stressed.....someone needs to figure it out because it is miserable and no one understands why I'm crabby and in a pissy mood most of the time, I tell them take 2 fingers place them right above your sternum and apply some pressure and imagine living with that feeling day and night....
I had a similar episode five or six years ago but it only lasted a few months then I was back to "normal".....then about a year ago I woke up one morning and bammmm it was back.

I have all of the same feelings you are all talking about and they are much worse at night. I am a young 43 female. I am healthy and very active but I have this horrible feeling of needing to burp and when I finally can it doesn't relieve anything I am on pepcid and it isn't working I have to constantly burp. I also have a feeling like something is stuck in my throat more at night tho. I can't find anything to relieve it. My heart is fine according to the doc, but when I am trying to go to sleep and I have that feeling in my throat it feels like I have heart palps too. what is all of this??what ever it is it is horrible!!

I am a 38 year old female. I just started feeling this tightness in my throat and the other things this week. My throat feels like it is swollen or closing, more on the right side then the left. I have a constant need to burp, but I really don't need to - so strange! When I make myself burp, it is like others said there may be some brief relief but then the bad symptoms come back.

I also have pressure in my head between my ears, but that may be left over from being sick the past few weeks. I just want to feel better. I can't imagine having this for years on end like some of these previous posts. Good luck to us all!

I am a 17 year old girl and i have the same problem. Sometimes I feel as though I have acid reflux, sometimes its just a sensation of a burp coming up and it just stops mid-throat.. It highly concerns me because I'm also constantly coughing and it hurts my throat. Sometimes it feels like the passage between my mouth and nose has been disrupted. I've smoked marijuana in the past but i havent since I've been experiencing this... doctor's have no clue! What do I have?

All these symptoms are gastrointestinal caused by reflux. Possible cause of reflux could be Hiatal hernia, too much alcohol consumption over time, and yes, smoking, stress (not that it doesn't require real treatment),etc. It can also lead to a stricture in the esohpagus where it basically spasms in one area causing the opening to be very small (and you can feel the squeezing inside, like something stuck there). Try cutting out caffeine and alcohol completely. Eat 6 small meals a day; no large meals. Eat foods that evacuate the stomach quicker (nothing that requires a lot of acid to break it down), take antacids. Do all you can to reduce your stress response to stress you cannot avoid. Don't worry so much though, you are fine (you don't want to develop an anxiety problem now as well). If it doesn't get better, go see an internal medicine doctor and tell them your symptoms, they can do an upper GI endoscopy to look for anything in your throat, esophagus, stomach, and duodendom. If they find a stricture they send something down that will open it back up, which relaxes the spasms. I've also done this myself by drinking a very large cup of water, very fast in huge gulps - forcing the esophagus open again. (however don't over do it - you'll get too much water).
