It can be caused by a number of things. In my case I think it is some mild acid reflux and it is being magnified by anxiety. I have been having this type of issue for about 6 months, it seems to be worsened by junk food, alcohol and stress. In my case exercise and a healthly diet have helped a lot, as well as not filling up right before I fall asleep. Prolosec OTC or Zantac also are good if you need temporary relief. One thing I recommend is getting a juicer and going on a 24 hour juice fast w/ veggies. No joke, that really cleans you out, I don't recommend doing anymore than 24 hours though since you basically starve.
Of course the safest most common sense suggestion is go see a doctor, if you hate doctors like me and the symptoms aren't that severe. Do some online research and some experimenting to see what triggers it and what helps. I have made progress with my symptoms but am not cured, whether or not a doctor is needed for me is TBD.

LOL! Genius! I was leaning on my hand with my chin while I was reading this and realize I do it so frequently that I have worn a spot on my armrest!

mine happens when i am eyating, i take a bite and all of a sudden its like there is an air bubble in my chest, a need to burp and cant, i cant swallow or it makes it worse. tonight was the worst yet, seem to move into my throat, my husband came close to taking me to the er. it took about 30 min before i finally felt the pressure release. i am definitly talking to my dr tomorrow. this being the 3rd time i am really scared to eat anything. it is horrible feeling.
