I am 42 years old and absolutely don’t want any more children. I have a Dr’s appointment today to discuss tying my tubes. The thing that bothers me I have read negative things about the effects on periods. Anyone with any experiences out there? I need opinions about to tie my tubes or not?

I personally have not considered it but I know the possibility to get pregnant still exist and it would cause an ectopic pregnancy (inside the fallopian tube) which is incredibly dangerous. Personally, I think there are way more effective methods that are less expensive and risky. Although my cousin had tubes tied when her daughter was born in Jan. Her periods are still irregular but the flow is the same as it was before. If you ask me whether to tie or not----don’t!

Ok you don't want anymore kids, you've decided that much, but there are a million options for you, besides surgery.
Get the needle, your periods eventually stop and you can have fun 24-7, go on the pill, get an IUD, tell your husband to get fixed, no husband... tell your boyfriend (s) to wrapp it up.
why go so evasive in this day and age.
you may think its permenant, mind easeing solution, but nothing is one hundred percent, even the last comment to you was about eptopic (tubular) pregnancies. OUCH, don't want that, it can kill you. Less evasive for the man to get fixed, besides menopause may be close (5-10 years) why bother?

Look into the copper IUD.
IUDs are the most popular form of birth control in the world (but not the USA, yet).
The copper IUD lasts about 10 years, costs about $500 and has no hormonal side effects.
But most women experience heavier periods for the first 2-6 months.

I am thinking about it too- I just want to know if its painful- From my research it seems safe and effective-
Sorry, Ladies my husband wont get fixed -he been convinced by others not to have the sugery. So- since I am the most likely candidate- What are the risks? o.O

I am in the same boat. I am also thinking of tieing my tubes and keen to know the risks involved. I have an IUD and am experiencing bladder problems with it so I want to take it out. Hubby won't have the op so what is my solution, cannot do the pill as i have Gilberts - enzyme deficiency in liver so that is not an option.
Thanks
