I'm 16 and had my surgery yesterday morning. I slept the night at the hospital(or well not actually sleep, 'cause one of my hospital room mates was snoring really loud). So far I have had only minor pains. No blood or nausea.
When I was at the hospital tho, they brought in a girl who had her tonsils removed on Friday (about 5-6 days ago) And she was bleeding so bad. It looked so creepy, I hope nothing like that happens to me.
I ate a lot of ice cream, but I think I won't do that anymore, cause it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth, so mum is getting me some popsicles and jello.
I've been also drinking a lot of water and cold camomile tea.
Hopefully I'll be okay. <3

Ok 42 year old & needing a tonsillectomy? What? !! Tired of all the tonsil rocks, ear, sinus, throat infections, I decided it was the right thing to do. After reading all the posts of how dreadfully painful it is for an adult... I prepared & expected the worst! I usually have a very high pain tolerance, having 2 children w/o pain meds, more kidney stones than I care to remember, hysterectomy the works! I have to say, I really have NO Pain, just discomfort from the swollen uvula & tongue, but the tonsil area itself feels great! I am drinking so much ice-cold water, which is a significant help. Yes, as I continue to heal, I am getting the mucously goober feeling, which is the soft scabbing coming free.. I haven't had to take any pain meds. ....what is a big plus is all the gallons of ice water, continuous drinking ice water helps the throat stay lubricated & helps w/ swelling. I'm coming along with sherbet, jello, pudding, pureed can pears/peaches. Next week i'll maybe try farina or soup, nothing too warm though. Unfortunately, on day 4, I caught the dreaded stomach virus from friends I saw before surgery. ! I cursed them every time I vomitted!!. You all know the feeling, having that virus on a good day is awful, so have an open, raw throat from tonsillectomy, I was not a happy camper!! Thankfully, the virus was only a 24-hour bug & left quickly. My doctor suggests a liquid/very, very soft diet for a total of 3 weeks! Sounds like a long time, but I'm already almost over week 1 and it's not so bad. I do not feel hungry at all and I'm actually welcoming the weight loss :-) Once I am fully healed and get get back to my exercise routine, it'll give me the incentive to continue with the much-needed weight loss, so I look at this in a positive way :-) Other than the 1-2 days down with the stomach virus, I cannot believe the amount of energy I have and what a good mood I've been in ...I am really amazed at how well the recovery is going... kudos to my Dr. :-)

Swollen uvula and scabs falling off after tonsillectomy

Hi i'm thirteen and I had my tonsils taken out 5 days ago and i'm in so much pain the doctors said they shouldn't have bben as big as they were and they were so infected I've been started on strong anti biotics straight away. They said my uvula is jellified or something ? It's got like a thick clear layer around it and it's really swollen and I'm really struggling to eat! I've been making myself slushies in the blender with ice an fruit juice and it really helps, I've also been sucking theses tyrozet things that numb my tongue so it doesn't hurt as much to talk and eat but i'm so glad they've given me pain killers I'm in agony without them, but I dread going to sleep because I don't swallow when I'm asleep so when I wake up my throat is really dry and sore. :-(

I had my tonsils out on Monday, and I'm on day 4 and still the scabs have not started to come off. The pain in mostly when I wake up, today was worse than any day, I can't sleep throughout the night, I wake up twice and have to take pain meds. Although I am in pain, I've been trying to stay away from the stuff the doctor gave me, which was hydrocodones, they're too much for my stomach and I spent all of wednesday throwing up because the anesthesia, morphine, and hydro's were working themselves out. A tip to just about anyone is try to get something on your stomach, I found eating crackers, but chewing them up really well, was a big help. The doctor told me I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I felt I could eat it, with the exception of chips. I've been trying to eat solid foods since the first full day at home. I'd have to advise against it honestly, because I also have the swollen uvula problem, not as bad as most it seems, but food just irritates it. Anyone know if kissing is allowed during the recovery weeks? My boyfriend is flying in the day after christmas and I wanna be able to kiss him without getting sick. :-)
