My advice: when I was younger, doctors told my parents I should have my tonsils out all the time.  For some reason or another, it never happened.  Then the doctors stopped saying it but each new doctor would say that I had "the biggest" tonsils they'd ever seen.  So, whenever I got a common cold, my parents would tell me it was because they had never acted on doctors' advice when I was growing up.  Well, it was smart that they didn't and I never should have either.  I'm on day 8 and have never been in this much pain.  I'm 23 and this is not my first surgery.  Since last Friday, I've already had a trip to the ER, post-op anesthesia problems, and problems with my medication.  Two days ago my ears started to kill, which is somewhat common (which the doctors never once mentioned).  There was a lot of double-talk with this procedure; no one gave me a straight answer in terms of: How long the recovery would take, what I should eat, what I would be able to eat/drink, all the possible complications, the ear/jaw problems, the nausea, the other bowel problems that are apparently "extremely common" once I researched my medications, etc... I never should have had this done so if you're on this site looking for something to make you change your mind, here's your post.

Hi Dani,

since I'm in the similar situation - the part where everyone is telling me to get the tonsils out (but I had bad experiences with surgeries before, so... I'm more than reluctant). Could you tell me if you had tonsillitis or staph infections often, before you gotten the tonsils out? I can only wish you the quickest recovery possible, hate to hear you hurting so much now :/
