I am 4 weeks post tummy tuck, lipo, mastopexy & augmentation. Before I had the surgery, I went on a healty regiment of 5-6 small meals a day and I exercised for AT LEAST 20 min a day. I lost 20 lbs in 4 months and was very strong on the day of surgery. I highly recommend DIET & EXERCISE FIRST!! after reading some of these stories, I realized that my recovery has been an easy one compared to some of the stories. I weighed 144 the day I went into surgery and the VERY NEXT DAY after surgery I was 156! Talk about swollen! It took a little over a week for me to return to my pre surgery weight. My drain tube was taken out at day 12 because there was very little drainage. I started wearing the stage 2 compression garmet 2weeks ago and though it can be a little uncomfortable at times...IM WEARING IT! Apparantly it helps the recovery & shapeing greatly! I feel MUCH BETTER with it on anyway. I use my stage 1 garmet right after I shower while my stage 2 garmet is being washed & dried. This has kept my swelling down to a minimum.
No one noticed any difference at first, but wow are they starting to notice now! I HAVE A WAIST!! I've never had a waist...just straight from the shoulders to the hips. My plastic surgeon did an amazing job...and from what I can see so far, my scars are MINIMAL! YESSSSSSS!!!
I stayed in the hospital overnight & am sure glad I did. The nurses were there to help & get me walking every two hours (VERY IMPORTANT!!!) I don't know if I would have done it if I'd have gone straight home.
Since I had so much work done, I am being patient with the healing process. I wish my breasts were not so sore...but I chose the surgery and I know when the healing is done...I'm gonna be glad I went through it!
PEOPLE, if you have a fever & puss drainage....GET TO A DOCTOR!!! That is a sign of infection and could be VERY SERIOUS!!!

I'm 3 weeks po from full TT, lift, aug,and hernia repair.(AGE 47) My PS didn't use drains. I had no seroma and very little swelling. Compression binder they gave me I wore only 1 week then went to a girdle from walmart ($9.99). I went back to work 1 and a half weeks later. Still having some soreness, but stiches came out on 12th day and scars are great looking. Plan to keep compression garment (24/7) for many more weeks, especially at work, during the day. I think the compression garments are the key to keeping the swelling down and to also help keep muscles from overworking so they can heal properly. Good luck to all.
Remember, it's worth it in the end..

Had full TT July 3 and came out 5 pds heavier. Had post-op visit July 10 and doc said all was well but drains weren't ready to come out (probably in 3 more days). Don't rush the drain removal because you don't want to have a needle do the work later. He said it must be less than 20cc in consecutive 24hr periods. I had some friends whose doctors wanted less than that. Also, I started eating fresh pineapple several days prior to procedure and still eating now. Because it has the enzyme bromelain, I did not bruise at all and the swelling was mimimal, however, I still was wondering if there's anything to speed up the reduction of the post-op swelling. I have purchased two excellent compression garments that cover high waist to mid thigh (F5 certified fabric) and they definitely are top notch -comfy but VERY snug - weird, huh! Anyways, now its day ten and I am under my pre-op weight by 3 pds, but still am swollen slightly and can't buckle my pants. I'm drinking lots of water, watching sodium intake, and not eating as heavy since you can't excercise. I heard arnica montana herb is good. Besides patience, anything else??! Like someone else said on an earlier blog, I highly underestimated this TT and all this recuperating stuff. I have a huge event on the 21th and need to try all that I can to minimize the swelling.

I had a TT on the July 21. By and large, I am extremely happy. My drains are gradually draining less and less. It's July 27th and yesterday I had a total of probably 60cc of drainage. My doc saw me two days post op and was impressed with how well I was doing. He said he would take the drain out when I was less than 40cc. I might ask him to keep them in a bit longer if you ladies are having trouble. I have to go to Las Vegas for a bachelorette party Labor Day weekend and I want to be at my relative best.
I have some bruising and some tender areas, but my doc assures me this is okay and that the "scrunched" areas will flatten out, etc. What are the best time of compression garmets to wear, buy? Where would I get something like this?
Thanks

I am 6 week post. I lost over 7# from the surgery alone. I am surprised to hear some of the horror stories posted here. My surgery went so smoothly and my Dr. was very attentive and made sure I followed her instructions to the letter. I had my drains 3 weeks and had no problems what so ever. I look and feel great. I still chose to wear my girdle as it makes me feel more comfortable when I do a lot of walking or am working out. I am still a little swollen but my Dr. explained that this is normal and to expect this and a little discomfort for some time to come. She explained that it takes up to a year to recover and heal completely. It sounds to me like maybe some of you were not given a clear picture of what to expect or exactly just how long this can take to recover from. I had a wonderful Dr. and have had a very smooth recovery. I have not one regret! I hope all goes well for those having so much trouble.

I had my tummy tuck 5 1/2 weeks ago. I had fluid excess at about 2-3 week period It is called a seroma or sometimes hematoma mine was aspirtated at ambulatory care 2 x by doctor he said it is a common complication. The aspiration is a needle inserted into the incision line and sucked out it didnt hurt just felt kind of odd. No problems since I wear my garment all the time and dr said 1 more week. Im kind of used to it now anyway. I look and feel great and only wish i had it done sooner.
best of luck to you all.

Hi all....I am 5 1/2 months post surgery. My surgery was perfect. The surgeon was very pleased with the results. I was given pain meds and by slept most of the time. I was completely medicated every 4 hours with Tylenol 3. The sleep was good for healing. I did not have drains. The surgeon he may put them in but would not know until he got into my tummy. By day 3, I was starting to feel nauseous so the pain meds were decreased. I could walk to the bathroom on the day of the surgery and every day after that. 10 days after my surgery, I could pretty much stand up straight. Swelling was still there and since I also had lipo, it felt like I had been kicked in the ribs. Every day got better and better. I was concerned about the swelling and was quite depressed about the results. I did not see the results right away. Today, my tummy is tight. The scar has faded significantly. The only concern I have is where the incision was, there is a lip, so to speak. The nurse and doctor told me that was normal and I would not really have the true results until 1 year. I am very happy with the surgery and I wish I had done it years ago!!

Hi,
I am 1 week post op from my tt. I feel extremely tired at times but overall I am pain free but still hunched over all the time. I still have 1 drain in , it will be removed this week. So far there is still alot of swelling, I am anxious to see the results, right now I have to hang in there and continue to be patient!

I am in my 8th week post op from a full tummy tuck. I am beginning to stand up straighter. I have to carefully stretch each day by lying flat on a bed with no pillow for five minute intervals several times a day. My doc sewed me up tight. My drains were only left in 7 days, but that my be because they were clear and quit draining. Every body heals from this surgery differently. It is best not to compare yourself with others as far as recovery. As long as you have no fever, dont worry. Walking is what helps me heal faster. The days I dont wals, I feel stiffer and more sore.

hi everyone, I'm so sorry to hear about your problems, I had tt, liposuction in 10 areas and fat transfer.....let me tell you I'm feeling great.
My drains were removed 5 days later, my scar looks like a fine line, and had almost no bruising at all. I drank a lot of water, ate a lot of pineapple to help with the healing. The next day after surgery I had encruciating pain but the second day was better and so on. Anyone considering this surgery should do it just for themselves, no husband, no work related reasons etc....no one appreciates what you do for them. Walk around as much as you can, I'm so excited, I just can't wait for the time to go by, see if I look any better, I already lost 4 jean sizes......Good Luck!

I was blessed. I had mine 4 weeks ago and my doctor did not have to put drains on me because he said that I'm pretty thin and dry. I was lucky. 2 days after my surgery, i went for a walk and ever since that day, i was on the go and for straight 2 weeks , went to the mall for a walk and i think it did help to get the swelling down. Every night I use my binder and my tummy looks so flat. I love my doctor. he's awesome.

I had my tummy tuck 10 weeks ago. I'm standing up straight and am doing almost everyting again except i haven't gone back to the gym yet. I still feel really tight like a rubber band has been stretched as far as you can stretch it down the middle of me where they sewed the muscles back together. It is very uncomfortable, not so much painful but really uncomfortable. My skin is really sensitive inside and out, and i have pain on the inside of me where they loosened the skin from the muscle. I am still very aware that i had surgery even where I had my lipo on my love handles is still really sensitive and sore, burns when i roll over in bed on my side. My doctor told me that going in for thearaputic massage will help with the swelling and recovery. I get really swollen after a massage and am sore for several days. Don't know if it is really helping, but i'm going to continue. My massage girl had her tummy tuck a year ago and she tells me that it takes quite a while for the swelling to go all the way down, not even to buy a new pair of jeans for at least 6 months. This has been a lot harder surgery to get over than i anticipated. My doctor told me it could take up to a year and i am only at 10 weeks, i think you feel that your body should just heal faster than that, and you start thinking something is wrong because it is taking so long. It really helps to hear from others and how their recovery is going. I'd really like to hear from others who are further into their recovery and tell us how you are doing and feeling at a later stage so that we won't get so discouraged. I love my results, i look great, love my flat stomach, scar is looking pretty good. The thing i hate the most is the tight feeling i have going completely down the center of my belly, it drives me crazy.Code:
