I am surprised at all of this as I just had abdominoplasty done 2 weeks tuesday and am doing great. My doctor used antibiotics during the operation due to the fact that it is normal to get infection. I still have swelling and tenderness of course as the lining of the stomach has to adhere back to the rest of the tissue it was cut away from. I had my drains out 6 days after surgery and the holes are pretty much healed up. I am also wearing a compression band around my tummy so that it helps with the healing process and protects your tummy. I have had about 6 showers so far. Everything seems great....hope it stays that way. I was also put on blood thinners for 2 weeks, 3 days after my surgery.

I am eight months post op and I still wear my binder every night. This helps with the drainage after a hard day. You do still get a little swelling even after eight months, but by being religious about wearing the binder, it really help your body heal. The result is you will be very flat, so don't give up too soon. Good luck.

I live in the land of salty water and interviewed 4 surgeons. I would've been pleased with any of the results I've seen on my friends. But in the end I chose the one who understood me the best. There are a ton of great surgeons out here at the home of the best snow on earth. I'm very pleased with my results, surgeries were staged because he does very meticulous stitching so 7 weeks post op TT and 4 weeks post op breast lift with inferior reduction and augmentation. Can you throw out some initials of who you saw?

Something I learned from my Doctor recently which might help. When we have a tummy tuck our Lymphatic tissue does not drain very well because that tissue has been disturbed so much due to the surgery. So we have to help our tissue around our belly area drain by doing massage. Check out You-Tube videos on how to do Lymphatic Tissue drainage massage in the abdomen. I had major swelling above my belly button and on my right side and learning to help my lymphatic tissue drain the excess fluids have helped so much. I hope this helps you too.

hi, im just over my op and was just wondering how long it takes to stand up straight my back really hurts and like most of u i am very swollen and tingly, and i had my drains removed after 2 days as there was not much fluid or blood it that normal?

I had mine done 8 years ago but I seem to remember that my drains were in longer. I was draining though, so that's why mine was left in longer. I'm not sure what the normal protocol is on removing the drains. Once they took the staples out of my incision it made it much, much easier to stand up straighter and I felt so much better. I think it will be key for you to make sure you wear that binder. Ask your doctor too when it's okay to begin to do some massage on your belly. You can do it yourself by looking on you-tube for techniques on lymphatic tissue drainage massage. I wish I would've known to do that a long time ago. It really helps with the swelling I've had, even 8 years later. Hopefully you won't have swelling down the road. I'm not sure if everyone with a tummy tuck goes through swelling even years later, but I sure did. Anyway, hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat as you were. 19 days post surgery, my drains are still in and I'm still swollen. I feel fatter than ever cause I can't "suck it in..." so to speak. When did yours get better?

I had my tummy tuck surgery in last month from “The Windsor Breast and Tummy Tuck Centre”, Canada. Even though the surgeon advised me to take complete rest for three weeks, I just hate lying all the time on bed. But because of the tiredness and pain, I just did that. As you said I felt far better when they removed the staples out of my body. It really felt irritated in the initial days. I can’t even stand upright with that thing. But all those will went off on taking proper medicines. In about three weeks, I was perfectly all right and went for work as usual.

How did you k now that you had fluid excess at 2-3 weeks? I got my drains out at exactly 2 weeks and my next appointment isn't for 2 1/2 more weeks. I feel like my skin is detached from my body or something. It feels weird. How do I know if I need drainage or not>

I also had tummy tuck in mid October, it's now December. I had my first tube in for two weeks, it was taken out, for three days and reinserted again for another week. My tummy is still swollen, I've had to be drained every week with needles, I received no cream for my scar, I have a lump on the right side that will not go away, it is hard and makes my whole stomach look lopsided. I have worn my brace faithfully although I am told not to wear it tightly. I too weigh more now than I did before. I feel very frustrated

wow! That is encouraging. I also are a gym Rat! I'm at 3 weeks 3 days and wearing the garment 24/7 I had quite a build up on my rt side 150cc...was drained last Thursday. Going back tomorrow for a check again. Its slightly more swollen so we will see, and lower ab swelling.... I can walk....no lifting and this has been difficult. Unfortunately, by late afternoon I am very sore near the belly button, are you still sore? Or are you home free.

Swelling is very normal after a tummy tuck. I would swell and look very bloated for at least a year after the surgery! Try your best to stay off of your feet as much as you can. Also try to drink plenty of water I read on a tummy tuck forum that coconut water is great for helping with recovery! I drank it everyday for 2 months and had a great recovery except the swelling, which is going to happen. Just keep it in check and if you feel like it has gone past a normal state call your doctor, but getting bloated is very normal for up to a year!
