I had a vaginal hysterectomy & sling operation in 2008. Im in my middle 50's and have had leakage problems since I been about 25 yrs old.. The positive results of not peeing when i coughed sneezed or laughed lasted about 9 months. Then back to the same old problem. Running to the bathroom.. thinking Im done , only to stand up to wipe, & start peeing again. After a new doctors visit.. he told me he could not even see this sling...my 1st thought was "Did they even put one in ? " The doctor also told me..that these slings can move. Something I was not told about in the 1st place. Now.. 3 years later.. there is no doubt i will need corrective surgery. If the sling was never put in,, then I'll probably need some kind of operation to fix my bladder problem... and if it is there ,,, which my doc said could be in my bladder..it'll have to come out with surgery. This has affeceted everything I do. My 1st step, now, is to have about 10 different bladder tests. Then a surgery date will be next. My 1st thought was my 1st doctor really screwed up & i got a lawsuit. But after doing research it will be the company of these sling devices,, that may receive letters from my doctors & lawyer. I say.. ASK QUESTIONS all the questions you can think of before going thru these procedures.. It'll be a total of 4 years i been suffering with this mess...and still have some time to wait before the corrections can be made.

Hmm.....am due to have this operation at the end of the month. I have been under a consultant for about ten years(from 34yrs), as suffer from stress incontinence and unexpected emptying of bladder...full on ..no warning and no sensation- can feel it coming but can't do anything about it. Tried drug treatment but made things MUCH worse. To be honest the stress incontinence is not the worst aspe ct for me but have been told that there is a 50% chance that this operation could fix both problems and my surgeon has a high success rate(he tells me!),he has also explained that he may have to cut the tape if it makes the situation worse and has written to my GP and given me a copy. My step-mother had this operation 10 years ago and said it was life changing and I should go for it. She showed me her scar which she thought was great and privately I thought differently. I could have gone for this op years ago but the person you see for consultaion before the consultant said I was "messing with a hole I was still using" referring to sex and it really put me off. This blog has certainly given me a lot to think about ! Thank you all.

I had the Tvt sling put in two years ago. I also had the bladder interstim put in at the same time, what a mistake! It took almost three months to heal from the tvt sling. And it has not been right since. I was in so much pain, the whole left side of my body was numb all the time. I also complained to my Dr. that it was hard to have intercourse with my husband, and I could feel sharp pain it felt like I was raw or razors. He told me it was from being on depo for so long, but he did not take me off of the depo. He knew all along it was the mesh and he lied to me. Also I ended up getting the interstim removed but not until I pretty much pleaded with him, I told him something was wrong. When he removed it it took an hour longer then he said it would. When I got home and looked at the surgery I had another big incison on the other side. When I talked to him about it he told me it took longer because the lead was tangled in my nerves. ( which he never told me that could happen eiether). I changed Dr. needless to say!!! And my new Dr. told me she could see the mesh sticking out and that I should get that repaired or removed, I told her that I was not ready to go through another surgery yet, but I think it will be soon The pain and problems I am having from the tvt sling is getting really unbearable. So please think twice about getting this done its really not worth it. And I think something should be done about these lieing Dr.s and the makers of these mesh nightmares.

I never got over the increasingly uncomfortable urge to pee and when it happened I was paralyzed in place and could not move without leaking. Had the TVT sling repaired (cut in half ) and while the urge to pee suddenly is still strong, most times I can manage to get to the bathroom without an accident (but sometimes a deserted parking lot or bushes will have to do!)

hi ! i had TVT last sept 12, 2012...for 23 yrs i sufferred from stress incontinence, but now i could say FREEDOM !!!! no more leaking when i cough or sneeze ...what a relief !!! the only thing that i've noticed was sometimes i need to spend longer period in the toilet. why ? bec i feel theres bit more of urine after i void Incomplete emptying)...so what i do is to sit forward count 1-10 then presto i will pee again, thus complete lmy micturation...this is what they called double voiding....nothing is perfect in this world, its the way we adapt to things! I am not encouraging women to have TVT but if i return back the time i will have this procedure once again ! I feel more confident now ! no need for me to wear big and thick pad at all times...no more embarassment when i cough or sneeze ( i have asthma and high blood pressure) im on cilazapril 5 mg daily for my high blood pressure...the side effect of of cilazapril is coughing, plus with asthma some allergens can trigger it which causing me to cough as well !!! so i always have cough from time to time...i don't have TB or bronchitis or pneumonia...i had my xray done and its clear...its just too cold here in New Zealand and its a fact one of the triggers of asthma is cold temperature...why i am here ? my family decided to migrate and live here...its 3 againts one...so as a mom i would rather stay here than leave them...so ladies its still up to you ! ♥

Regarding your post about doctor saying not to worry, try to relax, drink water and cranberry juice. WOW! thank you! you helped me! It's been exactly 7 days and i feel i'm not fully emptying my bladder and I can feel my bladder yelling at me "CALM DOWN ALREADY! YOU'RE MAKING ME NERVOUS!"

lol

grateful in Canada :)

Had TVT a week ago today and am having the same problem. Doctor assured me that all went well and that the sudden leakage would stop within two weeks...but not sure.

Good luck!!
