Hi All! 38 year old male here. Really happy to find this site and see that there are many suffering from the same thing. Hopefully we can all help find cures that work, even if they are not the same for everyone. I've suffered from this for about nine months. I first had problems with pain in my lower belly and went see the doctor, who carried out a basic rectal examination and then suspected it was prostatitis (an inflammation in the prostate that is quite common). I was put on anti-inflammatory pain killers (sold over the counter) for two weeks but that didn't solve the problem so the doctor then prescribed me a two week antibiotic called Ciprofloxacin Accord. This is I believe when my problems related to the topic discussed here started.
Once I completed the antibiotics I still had some issues with pain around the prostate so I was sent to see a specialist, urologist, who completed an ultra-sound check both through the belly and recally, only to see that my prostate was fine. At this time, I had started to have the problem with leaking and itching so I explained this to the urologist, who provided me with a creme and said it would likely go away. It didn't. After having the issue for some time I went back to see yet one more doctor, who then concluded after examining rectally with the camera stuff they have that I had hemmorojds. I then went to see a specialist who in the course of 2 months removed two hemorrojds with a rubber band (this is common procedure). Doing that was hardly any pain and only took a minute or so. Hoping this would solve my leakage I went for about another month before heading back again to a second expert in rectal conditions at the hospital. He examined me using two different instruments, one that looks at the lower part of the rectal area and one that goes a bit further up (about 18cm up). He then concluded that my sphinkter looked fine and he could find no other issues except for another hemorojd. So he removed that one with a rubber band as well. So total, I've had three hemorrojds removed with rubber bands. Problem however still not solved. Still have the same leakage as before.
Went back to one of the first general doctors and he prescribed me a creme against fungus infections but it was just external, to put on at the outside. Didn't help.
My problem is identical to many of you. When I go to the toiled and have bowel movement, it feels as not everything has come out and I wipe a lot. Then I have to go back a half to one hour later and wipe again. Then it usually stops. I avoid going to the toiled during the day at work as I know this will happen. My condition has gotten somewhat better after removing the hemorrojds but I don't think they are the cause. My problem started right after I took the antibiotics, prescribed against prostatitis. My only help so far has been discovering wet wipes for babies, which makes the irritation less and also effectively cleans up. I buy the most allergy-safe versions they have in the shop. I also eat a fiber supplement (the kind not resolving in water). There are two kinds of fiber, the one that resolves in water and the one that doesn't. They have different effects on your body. Mine is called "Inolaxol".
So. After visiting five different doctors, of which three have been specialist doctors and surgeons in urology and rectal disorders, I still have the problem. I've mentioned to all the doctors that I took the antibiotics but they don't seem to think this is the cause of the problem. They seem a hundred percent focused on mechanical issues. Hemorrojds, weakened muscles and so fort. One of them said my inner ring muscle was not closing fully as quick as it should. Another didn't find this problem. And so forth, maybe it was temporary.
It seems the doctors I've seen can't solve the problem so it's great to find this thread. I also believe this has to do with the antibiotics and my feeling for this only gets stronger when I see so many of you have the same background.
Another sympton I have is a slight lower belly ache in the morning. This goes away after bowel movement. So I'm thinking this is caused by inflammation/irritation in the colon which is amplified in the morning as I usually have bowel movement in the morning right after getting out of bed.
After reading this thread I'm positive we can beat this. I'm open to try (almost) anything. As I said I've already had three hemorrojds removed to try to be cured, so having some garlic on top of that would hardly be a problem! The issues effects your social and work life massively. Not being able to go for a long walk in the morning or go to the mens room during the day is just very limiting.
So, after reading here I've been eating 3 pieces of raw garlic yesterday. Just cut them into small pieces. I also drink about 1 litre of cranberry juice per day. I smell like mad. My wife won't go near me for the garlic! But it's worth it. I'd take smelling like an army of monkeys for a month if that's what's needed to live the rest of my life with the butt issue. I've only done this for a day so far but strangely enough I'm already seeing an improvement. I've had two bowel movements so far today, and no leakage. I usually go crazy if I have a second bowel movement during the day of all the leakage and itching but today it's been fine. It's obviously a lot too soon to say if this works but I'll continue and see what happens. Have tried different types of probiotics before, pills, yogurt and so forth but they don't help. I haven't tried probiotics that include Saccharomyces Boulardi yet though. I realize some probiotics only include bacteria, and some also other types such as friendly yeast, enzymes etc. So I'll try one of those.
I think fiber is a good thing in making your stool firmer etc but I don't think it will solve the issue. It will reduce the symptons though. We need to get to the root of the issue and eliminate the bugs that are causing this from the start. Something is clearly irritating the system and making it work poorly.
Finally also some advice I hope can help someone. It's not a cure. But I read up on another site that if you use a low chair to put your feet on when you have bowel movement, it will help make it better. So when you sit down, you put your feet up on something that's around 25cm high (10 inches). Then with your feet up high, you have the bowel movement. It feels really silly sitting like that and you need to have the chair or other thing in the bathroom but it's worth it.
Would be great if any of you guys that got healed from this returned and let us know if you are still doing fine. It's invaluable for all the rest of us to find out what did work.

I've had this issue for a few years myself. The discharge after bowel movements and the itch. I too believe it stems from antibiotics. It became worse for me after my last regiment of powerful antibiotics for a staph infection.
The only relief I have found is through fiber supplements. I consume Metamucil twice a day and it has had an enormous impact on my issue. If I take it regularly, it becomes almost a non-issue for me. Miss a couple of doses and it starts to flare back. Eating fibrous foods like vegetables helps even more.
I tried probiotic supplements but it was no help. Only the fiber has made a real difference.

Hi again,
Wanted to write an update here. Following what some people here have written, it seemed Saccharomyces Boulardi worked for some. So I had a go at this as well. Ordered a pack of Thorne Research Sacro-B, which are pills with Saccharomyces Boulardi. Have been eating one in the morning and one in the evening for two weeks now. The results are amazing. I have no itching and don't have to go back to wipe any more. During the two weeks I just had one day where the old problems came back, other than that I feel so much better.
Before starting on the Thorne Sacro-B pills, I went to see my general doctor again and required to do tests for C. Difficilie (as Saccharomyces Boulardi is a treatment associated with C. Difficile infections). These results however came back normal. So no proof of a C. Difficile infection. So not sure what kind of infection or issue it could be, that the Saccharomyces Boulardi pills takes away the problems with if it's not C. Difficile.
Went also to see the specialist team at the hospital who deals with rectal surgery problems, mentioned I had positive results from the Saccharomyces Boulardi pills but the doctor there was very arrogant towards this. He didn't even want to look at the note where I had written down the name and the Thorn Research product name. In his view it seemed just completely non-interesting that Saccharomyces Boulardi had an effect on me. But he did also say that he is only focused on mechanical/surgical things and not infections.
So I'm at a bit of a loss here. I know for sure that Saccharomyces Boulardi has a positive effect on me. The question now is why it has. The doctors I have seen seem to have given up on this case or simply run out of ideas. I'm more and more convinced that I have some kind of infection that was started because of the antibiotics I took about 9 months ago. It seems that the Thorne Research Sacro-B pills have some effect in taking away the symptoms of this infection, I just don't know why or how, or what it is.
Really happy my problems seem to have eased a lot and the itching is gone now. But I'm not comfortable not knowing why or if the problem will come back once I stop eating the Saccharomyces Boulardi pills.

45 year old male with same issue for about 2 years. No cure yet for me but Metamucil or generic metamucil seems to help greatly. I take about 2 tbsp in about a cup of water each night. Usually have BM in the morning but I'm pretty good the rest of the day. Long story short I believe you need to have metamucil in your system when you have a bowel movement. If I have a second BM I tend to have some issues. So my thought would be to take metamucil or generic after each subsequent BM. Also I too believe this came on after taking antibiotics. Hope this helps someone.

Guys,
I have been battling this problem for a few months now. I'm a 41 year old very healthy male. I read the replies about drinking cranberry juice and also garlic. I looked in my medicine cabinet and my wife keeps cranberry pills used for minor bladder infections she sometimes get. I started taking them and three days later I'm almost back to normal! I'm cautious to say I'm healed but this has definitley helped me significantly. I'm sure there are lots of these cranbery pills out there but I took the following which available at any local drug store in the states.
AZO Cranberry for Urinary Tract Health
Good luck and I hope this helps some of you guys!

I am also suffering from same thing. After lot of reading it looks like the leakage which appears after stool is bile. If you lack enzymes, pls lookup Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency or some obstruction with bile duct , bile doesnt get reabsorbed back and flows out into large intestine. I am seeing difference with low fatty foods and digestive enzymes.
good luck

I am a 53 yo female with the same symptoms. I don't know why it started as unlike some of you I have not been on antibiotics. When I have a bowel movement, it's like I can't get clean and it seems like the rest of the day I'm hunting a bathroom to clean up. The burning, itching and leakage is horrible. Very frustrating and embarrassing to me as I'm a clean freak. If I'm home a shower does help. Hoping this is not something long term and I can overcome this.

Hi everyone, Just posting an update. I've been eating the Saccharomyces Boulardi pills for about two months and then stopped about two weeks ago. The worst itching and burning I experienced is no longer present now. It can be present to some small degree at some points but doesn't bother me as much as it did before I started eating Saccharomyces Boulardi. The problem with leakage however still occurs as usual. The problem was smaller when I ate the SB pills though. So Saccharomyces Boulardi seems to have an effect on especially the itching and burning effect of the leakage, but it doesn't stop the leakage alltogether. In other words, I'm still looking for a solution to this problem. I read online somewhere that it can take 2 years to restore bacteria in the gut after an antibiotics course. I'm now just exactly one year after I took mine. Still not sure if bacteria is the cause. I've done a new round of tests at the doctor and will see what they say about those, the general feel from the doctor is however that they can't find anything wrong. I also have a pain coming and going in the gut, this was the reason I took the antibiotics in the first place a year ago as the doctor suspected it could be prostatitis. However an urologist who examined my prostate with ultrasound and so forth didn't find any signs of prostatitis or any other issues with the prostate, making the pain I have in the pelvic region of my gut a mystery to her (the urologist).
Obviously I'm as frustrated as everyone else here. This issue really effects your day-to-day life. It's also worrying of course to have something like this going on without knowing what is causing it.
I still find it odd that Saccharomyces Boulardi has an effect on the condition, given Saccharomyces Boulardi is used to treat infections with Clostridium Difficile, which I have been tested for at my doctor and those tests came back as 'normal'.
I've found there's a condition called CP/CPPS. It involves muscle tension in the pelvic area. It is apparently often misdiagnosed as issues with the prostate in men. But CP/CPPS also occurs in women. Apparently what happens is that the muscles in the pelvic region become tense and this causes all sorts of issues as this becomes chronic, causing pain, inflammation and so forth. I have no idea if this could be the things that started this all for me but one theory I have is that I intially got CP/CPPS, then because of the pain caused by it, I went to see the doctor. The doctor suspected prostatitis and gave me antibiotics, this knocked out all bacteria in my gut. Now I'm left still suffering from CP/CPPS (causing the pain in my pelvic region) and the leakage problem (caused by antibiotics having knocked out the bacterial flora and who knows what bugs are now ruling inside).
I'm surprised by the way the medical community is handling this. I've seen 3 general doctors, one urologist and two surgeons (who removed four hemmorojds, didn't help much). None of these six doctors, of which three are specialists, have offered any explanation. Which makes me thing this is an area that is still unknown to the medical community.
I'm pleased to say I am now better than I was 6-8 month ago, so the condition seem to gradually improve. I don't know if that's because I removed 4 hemmorojds, of because I ate the SB pills, or becuase my body is healing itself but things were definitely worse 6 months ago for me. Now I just want to get completely rid of the leakage, get to have normal bowel movements that doesn't leave you feeling that you still have half left inside, and get rid of the pelvic pain I have. This I believe, will all happen during 2016. That's my goal and I will continue to work all I can to make that happen.

There may be many different causes of this condition. One is the 'pearly anus' syndrome, where the patient over cleans the anus, as a result of being a 'clean freak'. This irritates the anal tissue, resulting in an eczema-like condition of the anal region. The tissue responds by being red, itchy, inflamed and starts discharging anal fluid which further aggravates the condition. Not saying this is what you have, just an idea.

Much like many in this post, I'm a 40 something year old male who suddenly developed this slightly sweet, sea-weed-like-odorous anal discharge. Mine is unrelated to bowel movement and occurs through out the day. The other problem is it's irritated the surrounding tissue causing extreme itchiness and bleeding (possibly because I scratch it). And I hadn't been on a course of antibiotics for a while. My doctor initially thought it was fungal/thrush and was started me on a course of Itraconozole (anti thrush tablet) for a week. However this didn't help at all.
What was really interesting was a week after I developed it, my wife suddenly also developed the same smelling anal discharge with surrounding redness, itchyness and bleeding. This makes me think it must be contageous as she probably caught it from me. (Obviously I'm in the dog box because of this). In December, we both came down with a bronchitis and were started simultaneously on a course of Moxifloxcin antibiotics. Within 36 hours both our conditions rapidly improved, and stayed away for the month. Problem solved! Until last week where it seems to have returned. I'm thinking the 5 days of Moxifloxacin may have been enough for the bronchitis, but I may have needed more for the anal bug.
One of the other sites about proctitis and anusitis (which produce inflamed anus and discharge) suggests many causes for this condition; infection being one of them. (IBS eg Crohns or ulcerative colitis and radiation being other possible causes). So I plan to return to my doctor today to do an anal swab and a stool sample to see if we can possibly catch this bug, and then exterminate the culprit.
The comments on C.Difficile from Getting Better, interest me especially as a previous article suggest it's a difficult bug to confirm and you may need three samples to confirm the diagnosis. That's why the Saccharomyces is helping. And Moxifloxacin has been shown to treat C Difficile in 50% of cases. Just don't know where I got it from...
