Yes what a problem. Affects your life so badly. I had travelled abroad and ate something outside. Next day had serious issues, bloating, cramps in stomach. Doctor prescribed antibiotics (Oh dread me, why did i take it ?) and once I had completed the doze, it began.
The horrible horrible discharge after every bowel movement. I just go once a day. And have to wipe after sometime. There is fish smelling brownish liquid. I am not sure what it is. I went to the doctor here and he looked and poked around and found nothing wrong. Maybe it is an internal hemorrhoid. I will need to see a specialist for it maybe.
However, i tried yoghurt, strongest probiotic here in the UK, psylium husk, change in diet, well almost everything. Noticed a few days were alright and i thought i was completely cured. But the damn thing came back again next day.
Also wondered if it was candida flourishing in the intestines, dwelling on all the sweet stuff (i have a sweet tooth) and starch. Right now on Candida detox diet. lets see what happens.

This is an update to my situation.
I have been suffering like most of you guys out there since having antibiotics last year for a stomach infection. The wretched discharge causes itching, staining discomfort, inflammation of the butt skin because of it being moist etc. Walking around or sitting and you can feel it burning and itching down there.
I have finally found myself to be feeling better since the last few days.
This is what I have done:
1) Take the strongest probiotic available. Here in the UK - Optibac Probiotics (Extra Strength). Take 2 everyday after breakfast. In fact I also had Saccharomyces boulardii from Optibac. I took 2 everyday for 4 days alongwith the Probiotic but after that just continued the probiotic.
2) Every night I have Isabgol Husk (Psyllium seed husks, also known as ispaghula, isabgol, or psyllium) in warm water just before going to bed. I mix 1 tablespoon with warm mug of water. Stir it for a minute or so and then drink it. Right after that I drink a whole mug of water as well.
3) Its very very important to drink lots of water when taking isabgol husk and probiotics. Wake up and have at least 2 glasses of water and right before bed just after taking the isabgol husk follow up with water.
4) Dont eat too late in the night.
5) I am eating 2 pots of Activia yoghurt everyday as well. For sure. I think that has also helped.
6) Resumed my normal diet of food. I eat everything now. In fact also have a glass of milk or with cereal sometimes in the morning. This was never the case before. Drinking milk was going to the loo and passing glass.
7) Dont be disappointed. Dont feel dejected. Dont take stress.
8) You need to continue the probiotics for at least a month to see some changes. I did that religiously. It works. Also ordered my next set of doze already.
9) Try to avoid Junk, if you feel hungry all the time like I do, just have yoghurt pots. They have huge variety as well in them. I have the ones with live cultures. Most of them have it written on them.
I think because of the points above, I just go once to the toilet now. Dont even have to rub again and again. Cleaning is easy. I anyways wash myself than use toilet paper. But I read in some posts here that wiping has been very easy after isabgol husk.
The combination of above things has greatly improved my health by the grace of Allah. Its important to understand that cure lies in the hand of the creator and not the creation. Turning to doctors and embarrassing yourselves again and again by repeating your situation is not going to help. I have done this multiple times. All I got was sympathy and some advice to try this or that. Obviously, for more serious issues you do require a doctors help. However ask the creator for the cure. Ask for mercy. This has been the changing part and the most important part of my cure.
I have never felt better. I think I have completely recovered. 1 year of pain and torture. 1 year of endless search on google for symptoms & cures etc. I think its off now.
Its been 5-7 days now. I have never got that ugly discharge. It feels so good after a year of pain. Alhamdulillah. I will keep you all posted.

Wanted to write an update. I'm still trying to get my head around what is going on. Last week, I had a full Colonoscopy done. This came back normal. The doctor who performed it couldn't see anything unusual and said the whole bowel looked good. I was a bit surprised about how far this exam went with looking 120 cm in, all the way up to the chest, around down again and then also into the small intestine. Procedure wasn't so bad and pretty quick, so if you are thinking about getting it done, just do it, it's not that painful. I'm my case I got to actually view the whole thing on the TV screen as well when it was done which made it a bit easier to cope with.
So, where am I now? I still have the issue. It's become gradually better over time but still comes back with a bit more force during some days. So I'm struggling to find a cure still. Now I've seen a Urologist to check the prostate, which came back fine, I've seen 3 different surgeons, who removed a total of 3 hemorrojds (ah the spelling) and now also had the colonoscopy done. In addition to this I've done a number of blood tests, parasite tests, STD tests (doctor insisted despite happily married for many years..), C. Difficile test and so forth. They have all come back normal. Nothing seems to be wrong. The surgeons have looked at the mechanicals, the urologist at those things, the colonoscopy at the whole bowel from the inside. All looks fine. They just can't find anything wrong. But still, just like all of you, I'm surely knowing something is not right.
The more tests I do that come back normal, the more I suspect the issue is bacterial or similar. I think the antibiotics caused this. I was on the Ciprofloxacin Accord for two weeks as the doctor suspected Prostatitis. My issues started after the antibiotics. I was on Cipro for 2 weeks (500mg). The issues we discuss in this thread started after the Ciprofloxacin course I took. I believe the Cipro knocked out my gut flora and now things are not good in there. I've looked around the web for people who took Cipro and experienced similar issues and there are quite a few out there it seems. Cipro is what is known as a broad spectrum antibiotic, there are more out there. This means it kills off all bacteria, not just the bad ones. I'm surprised to find people who's taken the same antibiotic and are reporting the exact same issue that we are having here.
It could be the case that some food is better processed by some bacteria, and the lack of these, or the overgrowth of other bacteria (or other microbiota) makes us more sensitive to certain food. I seem to get a lot worse when there's more alcohol, beer or sugar involved for example. Maybe some bacteria that are good at breaking those things down are missing now?
I know not all of you here have been on antibiotics, so not saying it's what caused this for all of us but for me, I'm more and more convinced it's what started it. The question now is how to get that gut flora back again. I've been stuffing myself with probiotics of all different kinds and they don't seem to solve the issue. The Saccaromydes Boulardi probiotic took the burning and itching away, so it does do something. I'm suspecting this is because it binds to toxins generated by bacteria (there is research on this in using it for C. Diff infections).
With all of us seeing so many doctors, hopefully someone will come up with a cure at some point. Please keep on posting, also if you get well. For me, I'm trying to keep a good diet and work out as much as possible. Stress is hard for me to avoid with both a high-pressure job and family but trying that too, to whatever extent I can. My focus over the next few weeks will be to re-build my gut flora. I'm trying fermented foods, sauerkraut, probiotics. I've read some people even do feces transplants to get rid of C. Difficile infections. I haven't tried this yet.
Oh one more thing. I read in a thread about prostatitis (that is often misdiagnosed) that there's a case with trigger points in the pelvic muscles that can cause this (CPPS). This can be both male and female. One guy wrote in a thread I read that one of these muscles that can't relax, can put a strain of pressure on the sphincter muscles, leading to a non-complete bowel movement, and then leakage as this comes out later. So muscle tension and trigger points in the pelvic area, could cause issues similar to what we are experiencing here. Worth to check out. I do believe gut flora knocked out by antibiotics to be the case for me but the CPPS path is also interesting, especially if you are also experiencing pain in the pelvic region.
Wish you all the best in overcoming this!

Hi. Have been following this forum for the past several years I'm a 65 year old woman and, apart from a visit to the doctor at the beginning of the period when I started to have leaking issues after BM (some four years ago), I have refrained from returning to the surgery - it was suggested that I have IBS (although I have no symptoms of that other than the 'leaky' issue). I avoided going again as I appeared to be in good company here! I have tried most of the suggested measures (including increased fibre, probiotics and exclusion diets) to no avail, and was just on the point of giving up and thinking that I would have to spend my life with a 'leaky bottom', when I stumbled across something which may be of use to some of you guys. I found an article which linked IBS with multivitamins. I have, for many years, taken a daily vitamin and mineral tablet (cheap supermarket version, so not a posh one) - the brand varies according to where I'm currently shopping but they seem to be much of a muchness. I can't remember when I started to take some of these brands (although I know that formulations change from time to time) or know whether I suddenly became intolerant of something within the tablet, but......hey presto! I stopped taking the tablet about seven or eight days ago and was instantly miraculously cured! This is the first time I have been clear for around four years!! Further browsing on the net seems to indicate a problem with the combinations in multivitamins, or some people seem to think it may be something to do with the form of magnesium. Either way, this is great news and I hope it will help someone. In all my desperate trawling through my dietry intake, I never once considered that the multivitamin might be an issue. Who knew?!

I've seen yet one more doctor, a Gastro enterologist, who did several tests and found nothing wrong. Same as before in other words.
I'm starting to think this issue is caused by feces being left in the rectum. In other words, an incomplete bowel movement. The reason behind this I think could be one of two:
The first reason is because the consistense of the feces is very sticky, and the bowel can't get rid of it. So instead it comes out very slowly for a while after the bowel movement. Also, the fact there is still stuff left there could cause the sphincter to not close properly. I don't know what causes the sticky feces but the antibiotics that many of us have taken before this happened might have something to do with it.
The second reason I'm thinking about is that maybe the sphicter is weakened and that is why it can't empty itself entirely. Perhabs, a perfectly functional sphincter would not have any problem getting rid of feces even if it was very sticky. I don't know.
After seeing so many doctors and doing so many tests to find out there is nothing wrong, these are the only two explanations I currently have. I also think that because the problem is worse some days than others, that it could mean the consistence of the feces plays an important role.
What I'm doing right now is taking phyllium husk every night before going to bed. It's improving the condition but not healing it. Hope anyone can come up with permanent solution to this issue. With all the doctors we are all seeing and all ideas we are trying, someone must eventually stumble upon the right cure.
I never had these problems before taking antibiotics and doing all the rectal exams for the prostatitis that the antibiotics were for.

I have gotten a few of those z packs for bronchitis over the years. So if the cause is anti biotics then I have it.
Will anyone ever find a definitive cure? I've tried many of the remidies here with no success. Help!!!
