What causes underarm abscesses? My husband has abscesses under his arms. He is under treatment now with dicloxacillin. It is not the first time he have this. Is abscess a transmitted disease? He is 52 and I was thinking that is maybe cause of his age, maybe his skin is not healthy as it was. I would be grateful for some information about abscesses! Thanks in advance.

Abscesses can form in almost every part of our body and may be caused by parasites, foreign materials, pus. It occurs when the area of tissue becomes infected and the body is able to stop the infection from spreading. Your husband is probably damaging underarm area with something when it is happening so often or maybe don’t treat appropriate. It affects people of all ages so it is not related with his years. Try with heat, like warm compresses, it may speed healing, reduce inflammation, and make the area feel better. I don’t think that is a transmitted infection.
