Maybe not a special breed but I do think we are able to see something we are not ready as humans to see. Another dimension, a peek behind the curtain of realty and true time, a glitch in the matrix?
It is to be embraced and considered a blessing or gift. That's why we find it scary but yet sort of pleasing.
I had it as a kid. It happened to me first when I had a really high fever but then repeated itself over the years on occasion. I am 38 now and if I concentrate and focus enough I can make it happen whenever I want. My daughter has been experiencing it regularly since she was 3. She is now 10 and i have been teaching her to not be scared and how to control it or at least not be afraid and embrace it. She still gets scared but we have a routine to help make it stop. It similar to what has already been mentioned here. Change the environment, I take her out ot her room and into another room. I try to get her to focus on pleasing happy thoughts (favourite childhood heroes and idols) happy, warm and safe thoughts. Her bunny and dog is always a good place to start. We try to break the mental cycle by grounding the though process in a comfortable reality. We talk about vacations and happy moments "remember when we did x? Tell me about it?" she is forced to focus on something else.
It only happens to her at night usually a couple hours after she goes to bed..
Embrace it and find its truer power. I have always thought it was the universe showing me something important. I just don't understand what's being seen, yet.

Wow thats pretty deep do you really think that it could be that deep. i find it probably only effects people with an high intelligence. and when i have the feeling i am able to focus and drown everything else out. this sometimes feels weird because i find it hard to focus.

I too agree that it needs to be embraced, I do not think it is a medical condition. it seems everyone experiencing this has had this when they were young and it seems to diminish in frequency when they get older. It still happens to me a few times a year and im 30. I try to analyze it everytime it happens to me. It almost seems as if it is a hightened awareness event. My theory is that it happens when a person is focused on MULTIPLE things at once. I have noticed that when i am doing something and then i focus on something else while i am still doing that something it begins to happen. It's as if multiplle thoughts merge as one cohesive thought process. Since childeren are so inquisitive and always eager to learn and experience things, it makes sense that it would be more frequent in children. Adults are fully capable of tapping into this as well. it is less frequent because they are just a part of an environment that rewards mind numbing single line thought processes. I believe this to be, not a supernatural phenomenon, but a natural physical human abuility that has yet to be studied and then subsiquently mastered. This could be the KEY to our next step up in evolution!

I am curious to know if anyone else who experiences the "fast feeling" can relate to any or all of the following-
* "fast feeling" began as a child occurring more often in teen and pre-teen however will only occur every now and then into 20's.
* experience headaches or migraine
*low blood pressure
*fainting or dizziness

It's funny. I was looking through all the comments, and still not one person really knows what causes this " fast feeling" to happen. I've been having it since i was a kid. Rarely happens now, but when it does it doesn't go away for like 5-10 min. It sucks. I don't like it lol. Maybe should make a doc app. see what they think. Cause not only do i get that " fast feeling" but alot of pressure in my head. Maybe we all have natures seizures lol i dont know. We gotta figure it out.

many have gone to doctors for answers and they do not get them. it seems alot of them just generalize and say its AiWs. Most people will accept this is the case because they want to associate a name with what they feel, but i tend to disagree with this assesment. Medical experts do not even know what causes AiWS, for the most part they are guessing. so to say something is a medical issue without knowing for sure is ignorant. Now some of you here may have this Alice and Wonderland syndrome, i am not disputing this. But it is possible these "fast feelings" could be related to somthing else entirely. In my case I very rarely get headaches, and when these fast feelings hit me it is not accompanied with a head ache. I have never experienced any distortions in my environment. Even when I get this fast feeling it isn't as if I am literally seeing things going fast around me or hearing things faster. It is the strangest feeling I have ever experienced. It seems everything around you has this sense of ugency, like I have read some of you describe.

Hey I used to get this too as a kid. Use to make me cry a lot. But it stopped as I grew up, I'm 20 now. I think it's called Alice in Wonderland Syndrome!

I hate having these feelings, I am 21 years old and I used to get these horrible fast feelings when I woke up from a deep sleep, usually more when I had a temparature. I suffered from the same feeling today. I woke up and everythign was sort of blurred and it felt like my hands were rock hard and my bed cover felt very weird. I panncked but I found that when I shut my eyes for 5 minutes it sort of goes slowly. :S Ive been calling it a fast feeling because I don't know how else to discribe it. and yes it is a sort of possessed feeling. Its horrible.

Hmm. I've heard some mention here about low blood sugar (not exactly Hypoglycemia, because that means very low blood sugar). My brother has type 1 diabetes, so I know a fair deal about blood sugar. I have these flashes too, mostly in times of stress. The two major times that people here have mentioned having these symptoms are during stressful times and right after waking up. After waking, a human's blood sugar is often low, because they haven't eaten anything all night. My theory is that these symptoms come along with stress because stress makes it hard for your body to maintain a healthy blood sugar. Make sense? I'm in high school, and these flashes seem to be happening less and less.

Just like everyone else I thought I was alone on this one. Everything you have all described is the same with me. Everything is sped up super fast, but I am able to recognize it is going on and still continue with my normal train of thought. I find that this happens the most when I'm on the phone. Then the spatial part comes in to play because it feels like the person I'm talking to is sitting in a room really far away from the phone. It's very bizarre. I had an episode about an hour ago and that's when I looked it up and found this site.
I didn't eat breakfast this morning, but did have a shake. I don't think my blood sugar is low, but I am hungry as it is now lunch time. I have had these since I was a kid but have never told anybody about it because there was no way I could describe it to make anybody understand. I'm now 38. I don't get them all that often, maybe once every year or two.
I don't think the Alice in Wonderland Syndrome accurately describes my episodes. I would say it is more of a Superman Syndrome. I'm able to process everything at what appears to be a million miles an hour. As a matter of fact, I feel like I am typing faster than I've ever typed before. The words are just flying off my fingertips. I'm able to hear every single noise individually and clear, although there are many. I am at work so I can hear the person down the hall moving around, I can hear the microwave in the lunch room, I can hear a clock ticking though I don't have one in my office, I can hear someone else on the phone talking and I can understand every word. Again, if there is a Superman Syndrome, that more accurately depicts what I am feeling.
I look forward to hearing more from the rest of you. If this has happened to you, please try to remember the circumstances when it occurred and whether or not you had recently eaten or were stressed. Judging by the responses, it doesn't appear that the medical community has an answer, so I guess we're free to diagnose it as we see appropriate.
