I had the same heavy bleeding when I was 13 with my first period.
Soaking pads, clotting etc. I was hospitalized and given 2 blood transfusions due to all the blood I had lost. It was suspected then but only confirmed years later that I had von Willebrands disease. Clotting time is much longer than in "normal" individuals. Not sure if this applies to any of you, but it explains a lot of the bleeding issues I've had in the past.

Hello everyone. I can relate to all of the postings I have read. I am experiencing similar problem hevy bleeding and clotting for about 30 days now. Going to Dr. in 2 days. Please do not panic, but do take this seriously. I had cervical dysplasia/precancerous cells at the age of 22 and had to have part of my cervix removed as a preventative measure; iot was a simple surgery and I was home in a few hours. I found out because my I had bleeding and soreness of my cervix after intercourse (rough or gentle) and bleeding/spotting for long periods of time. I went to the Dr. and found out that it was due to the abnormal cells on my cervix. If you have had multiple sex partners during the course of your life, then there is always a possibility of having HPV a virus that may never show symptoms but that may cause cervical cancer after be inactive to that point. I had no further problems for the last 6 years and have had regular papsmears, but the last month has been hell. I am afraid that the dysplasia is back... similar symptoms, but heavier bleeding and back pain. Also fatigue and soreness in lower pelvic area. Please know it is always better to get help from a Dr. than to hope the problem go away.

I'm not really sure when my periods became 'abnormal', but I have been bleeding excessively each month for at least the past 1 1/2-2 years. I have had two blood transfusions within the last 12 months. I went to the ER in June 2008 because I was filling a pad in an hour or less and was very concerned that something was wrong. A vaginal ultrasound showed that I have numerous fibroids. Around the same time this occurred, I was in the process of finding a new OB/GYN. Last month, I was admitted to the hospital after a CBC revealed that my hemoglobin was way below normal and I was severely anemic. An MRI and CT revealed that my uterus is enlarged and I have seven fibroids within the muscle lining of my uterus. I currently have no children and would like to preserve my fertility. Presently, the most common procedure to remove the fibroids and leave the uterus intact is myomectomy. There is another procedure, uterine fibroid embolyzation, that carries the risk of infertility. Excessive bleeding is a problem for many reasons, the most common and serious being anemia. After my discharge from the hospital last month, I went through two weeks of intraveneous iron treatments and I am currently taking oral iron. The doctor said that I will have to take iron for as long as I am in menses. I think that once I am able to get the bleeding under control, anemia will no longer be a problem. I'm not sure whether the others that have posted have been checked/diagnosed for fibroids, but if your current doctor is not addressing the issue, my suggestion is to find one that will.

I had the problem of month to 45 day periods for years. I finally found a doctor who did a full lab work up and didn't just put me on the pill. The lab work showed that my thyroid levels (T4) were slightly off, they were at the low end of normal. She put me on a low dose of synthroid, and I have been regular since. Cramps a bad and bleeding is still heavy, but periods are now down to 5-7 days

Hi. I've been reading posts from steady health for 2 months now because I have been suffering from vaginal bleeding for the past couple months and had no idea what to do. My regular obgyn took a long vacation to Europe so I visited another doctor in his absence. The sub doctor told me my excessive bleeding, clotting, cramping was due to an irregular period and stress. Mind you I am 29 years old and have never had an irregular period since my menstrual cycle started. He placed me on progesterone and told me the bleeding would eventually stop. It didn't. He then did an ultrasound, found small fibroids, said they weren't causing my bleeding and put me on bc pills. They also did blood work that came back normal. Bleeding and clotting only got worse but this doctor swore nothing was wrong with me. My reg doctor is back in town and I saw him yesterday. He immediately found a polyp that he removed right then and there. He said that was causing my bleeding and I haven't bled all day. I want every lady suffering to find a GOOD doctor who cares. I was dismissed and told I was stressed by the first doctor. A pregnant lady I met in the waiting room who also sees my doctor said she visited 9 doctors before she met mine. Our doctor found 13 fibroids in her and removed them, allowing her to have a successful pregnany. Keep visiting doctors until you find one who can diagnose you. Have faith.

As of yesterday I had been bleeding nonstop for 2months. My regular doctor was on vacation in Europe so I visited another one. He did blood work which came back normal. He told me I had an irregular period and was stressed. He put me on progesterone and when that didn't stop the bleeding, bc pills. That didn't work either. My regular doctor came back and when I saw him he immediately found a polyp that he said was causing my bleeding and clotting. He removed it and I have not bled since. Please see a GOOD doctor. There are many obgyns out there who pass bleeding off as an "irregular period" when something else is wrong. I thought I'd lose my mind with the heavy bleeding, cramping, clotting and no real answer until I saw my regular doctor.

Wow I have been having Severe bleeding myself I was filling up a super+ tampon every thirty minutes. with with blood clotting. I had received the Depo shot within the last 90 days. The Bleeding is actually pretty scary I went back to Planned Parenthood and they just said it was a side effect from the depo shot. I was not happy with lack of caring and service I received from Planned Parent Hood. I have been bleeding daily for over 20 days now.It seems to be a lot heavier at night or right after sex. I need to find a Gynecologist. :'(

I had vaginal bleeding and clotting recently that lasted for 2 months. My doctor found a polyp and told me that was causing the bleeding and clotting. He removed it in a matter of seconds. Before I saw my doctor I visited to another obgyn (my regular doc was on vacation) and he told me nothing was wrong. He said I was stressed and had an irregular period. Mind you I have never had an irregular period and I wasn't stressed. They did blood work that came back normal and performed an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed fibroids but this doctor told me the results were nothing to be concerned about and that the fibroids weren't causing the bleeding because they weren't in my uterus. Please keep seeing different doctors until you find a good one who tells you what's wrong. I met a woman in the waiting room of my doctor's and she said she visited 9 doctors who told her she was fine but she didn't believe it. She finally visited my doctor who found 13 fibroids that needed removal. find a GOOD doctor.

I don't know the textbook definition but it is like a skin tag that grows and branches out like a stalk. When the doc pulled mine out it was 2cm and ovular. It looked like white tissue mass. Even though I was all bloody and clotty, my regular doctor spotted it right away. The other doctor I saw initially completely missed it. If your doctor finds ANYTHING wrong but doesn't want to do anything about it, see another one. Keep seeing one until you find the reason you're bleeding. It's not always normal. I stress this because I thought I'd lose my mind throughout this and wouldn't wish it on any woman. I saw first hand that obgyns can be very dismissive of women's problems.
