I too had have the same problem where I started my period and it lasted for 3 months straight. I went to doctor and the Gyn just told me ohh that your period and the clotting is because your don't get your period on a monthly basis. She said the lining just built up so therefore it is just shedding. That was cool for month 1 month 2 she told me they can regulate using birth control that did not help, that is when i started having cramps. Before then I did not knew what cramps felt like even when i did get my period it would come for 4 days and no pain no nothing. The doctors didn't know i got ultra sound the only things one doctor said was loose some weight, did that nothing. A friend of the family told me to buy flax seed and boil it and drink it. Yes that worked and worked instantly. I boiled it...its a bit on the slimy side but tasteless and it worked. I was worried it stopped and i didn't get my period again for 6 months because i wanted to have children. When I got my period it would come back in the off and on pattern. Now for the past year whenever I get my period and it doesn't follow any 28 day pattern it comes when it wants to, it comes heavy where i am afraid to leave the house because i constantly have to go to the bathroom, i get huge clots like my fist and I have to wear at least 4 pads to make sure all the surface area is covered else i am a waking mess. Another thing that happened is that if i am around a lot fo women I start to spot even if I just finish a normal period days ago. I did got to a homepathic doctor and he test me and said my hormone is imbalance which maybe what is causing this. If I am around someone who's hormone is strong and they have their period i start getting the cramp and I end up getting my period again. My sister who is going through menopause i love her dearly but I cannot spend too much time around her because when I do my period starts. I tend to keep away from women because this doesn't leave much of a social life. I always have to have my guard up. I am searching for the heaving clotting and cramps and came across this site and realize wow i am not the only one and decide to share my story. I am just 30 so i dont want to do any procedure that will prevent me from having a child just the heavy bleeding and clotting needs to go away. Always have to be on my guard afraid of going out in public on a date and then get intimate because i might go somewhere and somone whas their period and that just ruins the night for me.

I am crying while writing this~I have been having this problem for over four years now . . . my doctor just wants me to go on birth control. I want to know why the body is doing this!!! I have lost so much of my life. The bleeding is so intense that that it makes it difficult to go about my daily activities. This usually lasts for 15 days. I am anemic and find it difficult to get anything done. I had fibroids years ago that resulted in two blood transfusions and a procedure called uterine artery embolization. So far, it doesn't seem like the fibroids are the cause of the heavy flow. I would recommend any woman having problems with heavy bleeding to monitor their iron levels very diligently. I nearly lost my life because I so desperately did not want a transfusion. My iron levels got down to a four. Not good. I am considering doing a documentary on this to help others and to also try to find some answers myself. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. I went on a high dose of cod liver oil and it worked for one cycle . . . I stopped bleeding immediately. However, the next cycle was back to the usual. It has worked for many women though. The theory behind it is that women who have this problem are vitamin A deficient.

Why is everyone so scared of a hesterctomy? Its the best thing that ever happened to me. If you are through having children then do it. No more pain, no more periods! Doctors today only want to push pills so they can keep you coming in for checkups, meanwhile you continue to suffer. Get it done. If you haven't had kids yet, then of course thats different. You will continue to suffer until you get one. :)

Hey Ladies,

I am also going through excessive bleeding with clots. I am not a person who likes to take birth control pills or medications due to the fact that many of these pills have many side effects. I am a firm believer in herbal remedies and I have read that there is an Chinese herb named Angelica Root and this herb has been known to help with irregular menstruation and helps control bleeding. I have used the birth control patch and developed a blood clot which traveled to my lungs and from then on I do not trust these things that claim to help regulate your menstruation. There is also other herbs which are Rasberry tea and Cayenne pepper has been known to help blood flow. Research these herbs on the net and you will see. I hope this information was helpful. :-D

I had the problem of heavy bleeding and blood clots for years and then I finally was diagnosed with poly cystic ovaries. After finally getting regulated and having my first child my menstrual periods were back to a normal 3-5 day normal flow for 8 years. I now am going though the same thing again. I am on day 12 and for the first time in years - I often think I have to go to the ER but I have bleed up to 8 weeks solid before so I know I am not dying. I go trough a 30 pack of always overnights in 2.5 days. So I understand what you are going through. I would make an appointment to see a specialist because I went through 15 gynecologists before I finally found out what the hell I had - a hormonal imbalance.

I guess I am going down that road again. At least this time I have a competent doctor.

Good Luck to you and take some additional Iron!

In 8th grade, I had my period almost every day for about 6 months, I went to the doctor and they put me on birth control. I was on it successfully for oh maybe 2 to 3 years, and then the doctors discovered I had a fibroid in my uterus. Basically it's a non-cancerous tumor. I'm 20 and it's still being dealt with. I wake up in the middle of the night because I can feel the clotting. A lot of the time I'm unable to attend school because the bleeding is so bad. The fibroid is about the size of a grapefruit. So, if you guys are worried, suggest to your doctor that maybe it's a uterine fibroid. They can do an ultrasound or MRI to determine if it is or not. Also, sex can be quite painful too, as many of you have said. I'm on three medications at the moment, one is Birth Control (and I'm on it continuously, no breaks), Anaprox, which is pain medication for my cramps, and Cyklocapron, pills that are supposed to stop the bleeding, but can only be taken one week every month.

hi!dis is my frst tym to join a dscussion,..i wud juz lyk to share my situation similar to yours,..i hope i can sumhow help u to understand our situation

i was 18 den, april 2008 wen i frst experienced a prolonged menstrual period, excessive&thck,d worst number of pads iv spent is 7overnyt pads that was wen i did a school project overnyt, but i usualy spend an average of 3 overnyt pads,it lasted for 25days to be exact.

lyk for some of u im scared,i cant sleep,im worried,i thought i was gonna die,..den it stopped for 13 days, but came back for 39days,..dat was d tym dat i told my mom that i realy need the check up,..

my frst obgyne said, that it was normal for my age,wat i was experiencing is 'HORMONAL IMBALANCE' nd she ask me to get a result for 'TRANSRECTAL'(similar to 'transviginal' ultrasound for pregnant woman but she prescrbd it nstead bec im stil sngle nd havent done that thng yet=),..she said the purpose of that is to clarify if i hav 'MYOMA' bec the symptoms may also lead to that,..but then i was cleard to have none,..she prescribe me some meds but the bleeding did not stop,..so i had a second opinion

my second obgyne also confrmd that it was normal,nd its really 'HORMONAL IMBALANCE',she prescribed me correctng pills+other medcines nd supplements, but it didnt stop ryt away,..

BUT THE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS OBGYNE IS SHE ASK THE FFG QUESTIONS,she mentioned that ths contributes great factors(which i found right)

she asked: ARE YOU EMOTIONALLY STRESSED?dat tym i was,for my mom den was sufferng frm breast cancer at the terminal stage

WAT IS UR LIFESTYLE?im an architecture student,i usualy do my plates overnyt, there r tym that i sleep an hour only for the hul day,nd there r tyms that i really dont sleep specially when the due date comes, its not that i love rushing but the time dont jus seem to be enuf=)

she adviced me to:
(about the emotional matter theres nothng she can prescrbe for that)
HAVE ENOUGH SLEEP AND DONT STAY UPLATE WORKING FOR ANYTHNG
DONT CARRY HEAVY THINGS(this includes laundrying)
DONT SHOUT OUT LOUD
DONT DRNK TOO MUCH SOFTDRINKS(& alcohol-->but i havent tasted any=)

correcting a menstrual cycle affected by hormonal imbalance by taking medicnes will not cure us in an nstant,..i had a regular check up for about a year but definitely i lost my patience plus i get busy wth my school works, really busy,..so i dint hav tym/chance to upd8 my checkups but im doing wat she adviced me to do

NOW IM 20 YRS OLD,i cannot say that im back in my normal 28-days cycle,3days of menstrual period, but i can say that im close to it,..anyway a 24-day cycle&7days of mentrual period is not bad

at tyms the excessive-bleedng-days are coming back,i den checkd wat did i do to for the past days that might be the cause for it,..and its clear,..one time i did my laundry,..the other tym i stay uplate for a project,..but its not that thck nd heavy flow anymore=)

IF IN CASE YOU FELL LIKE SEEING A DOCTOR THEN DO SO,..BUT DONT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR LIFESTYLE FIRST=)

thanks for reading=)

My story is similar to most of the ones above. I was bleeding heavily for a month straight with no end in sight. I was weak and tired all the time. My doctor ruled out pregnancy, fibroids and infection and told me it was due to a hormone inbalance. However, I found relief in a herb called shepherd's purse. You can get it in a liquid form and drink it in your tea or water at least four times a day. I didn't really think it would work honestly, but at this point after bleeding for weeks nonstop I was desperate to try anything. I started taking it on a Saturday, and by Tuesday the bleeding was completely gone! You can even take it before your period starts to keep it from being so heavy. Also make sure you are taking iron pills to make up for the excessive blood loss. Good Luck ladies!

I have been having a problem with what seems to be a continuous menstrual cycle and i am only 20.. I have had HPV I also have irregular periods and can't ever figure out when ill have a period.. Lately i have noticed my bleeding hasn't been stopping like it use to it just kind slows down to very light spotting or even brownish color. My latest problem is i'm having heavy bleeding with a lot of clotting. I have been bleeding through super size tampons and having to change them often. the blood clots look big to me but from what i was told by a nurse that if they are bigger then a quarter then i should be worried.. well how in the world am i suppose to know if it's the size of a quarter its long and stringy and i really dont want to try putting it on a quarter to see if it fits. anyone know what i should do?

I am new to this forum and just wanted to reply. I am 38yrs old. I have had a d&c 2yrs ago because of continuous bleeding being caused by a fibroid. I also had a 5 yr iud (merina) put in to slow down bleeding. It did help my situation. About 6 mths ago I was diagnosed with another fibroid growing and instead of getting my period for 5 days I was bleeding for weeks at a time. Very annoying!!! I had discussed my options with my gyn and because of the size of the fibroid could only be removed through a hysterectomy which I wasn't quite ready to have. Last week I started with my period on a Monday had intermittent bleeding very heavy at times through Fri morning, at which time it became extremely heavy, clotting, soaking through 4 overnight pads in hour and super tampons...spoke to my dr. he told me to come in to the e.r in the morning...Proceeded to go to sleep only to wake up at 1am in a pool of blood...clots the size of a dollar bill, I was losing so much blood I passed out...went to the e.r. had an emergency hysterectomy to stop the bleeding along with 2 blood transfusions. My bleeding was all caused from my fibroid. And if it went undetected could have been fatal. Please do not disregard heavy bleeding for normal like I did...because it is NOT!!! I was vey lucky!!!
